If we exclude spin-offs and Powered Up, it took until Mega Man 10 for Proto Man to be a playable character in a classic Mega Man game.
Also, the perfect way for a Proto Man reveal for Smash would be for Mega Man to be in a losing battle, and when the final blow is imminent, the whistle blows, and Proto Man swoops in.
Proto Man was playable in 9 first before 10.
@@SuperGoku14 I mean, if we're talking canonically though (which technically the comment isn't) Mega 10 is the first game to do it canonically. Mega 9 playable proto was just a gamemode (but still a valid playable moment)

A lot of us were at least expecting him or bass to show up since they were in 10.
And someone told me capcom said "Hey well, if megaman 11 sells, we will make dlc for it!" - and despite MM11 sold over a million copies, still no dlc. Yet they made dlc for gaist crusher despite that game undersold (literally 60,000 units) by a huge margin.

They said they would make a new big Mega Man project if 11 sold well. They confirmed that they are making one as of now. I think it’s gonna be X9.

with all the sprite game footage they had of protoman in the game megaman and bass, you'd figured protoman could have been an unlockable character, especially with an ability called BIG BANG STRIKE.
Fun fact: voice actor for Proto Man in the cartoon is same as Koga in Inuyasha 🤗
Protoman move set if he ever gets into smash:
Neutral B: Protoshield: While active, you will gain 100HP of super armor preventing all knockback from attacks. You can still move, jump and etc normally. When inactive, the super armor HP will regenerate 2HP per second 5 seconds after disabled. If your super armor breaks, you will enter an inescapable shield break effect as punishment, afterwards the HP will go back up to 100.
Side B: Proto Jet: Protoman Will Summon his Proto jet hover board and travel side ways damaging opponents you hit, you can also attack enemies while riding the P.J. You can get knocked off the P.J if you get hit by enemies. This move can be used as recovery
Up B: Proto coil: Similar to megaman’s up B rush coil, protoman will summon his spring board which he can use as vertical recovery. The summoned object will fall to the ground and damage enemies on hit if in the air.
Down B: Counter/Reflect (No real need for explanation)
This is a very good move set! ☺

MegaMan Battle & Chase! Loved that game so much! Still hoping for someone to sub/translated the whole Super Adventure Rockman for playing though.
I like to think Proto Man is still around somewhere in the X timeline...
I mean, how could Dr Light make ALL of these armor powerup capsules and hide them in convienent places where no one found them until X himself showed up at that location at JUST the time when he would need them to fight the upcoming boss (whom didn't discover the capsules either, despite them being in their own lairs)... unless...
It could be anyone but proto, because his core probably gave up on him long before X was discovered

Yeah. It seriously pisses me off that he and Bass were left out of Mega Man 11. What's even worse than that is the explanation that was given for it, in which Tsuchiya claims that they "would have confused new players". That explanation doesn't make even a little bit sense. For starters, how difficult is it to pick up on Proto Man being Mega Man's older brother, while Bass is his rival? Two, there is an in-game character database (which Proto Man was mentioned in, by the way), so that excuse just doesn't cut it. In fact, I consider it to be a blatant insult to peoples' intelligence. What this all boils down to, is that Capcom did not want to include Proto Man and Bass, so they didn't. It's as simple as that.
