  • As we dive deeper into the iceberg, we discover more fascinating and obscure facts and myths of American railroading, which leave many confused and astounded at what could have been. Even though there has already been much to wonder at in this journey from Parts 1 and 2, there are still more mysteries to behold in Part 3 coming soon.

There's something oddly hilarious about the C&NW running a Steam locomotive from their fiercest rival, like it's some sort of war trophey, lol

22:09 What if i told you... The big railroads around here are starting to act like the ones up there? Most of those Dash 8s and Dash 7s are long gone... Getting replaced by GT46ACs, SD70BBs or ES43BBIs...

The deeper the iceberg goes, the more sad I get. When all the talk about bringing S160s home and the German steam in the US I just couldnt take it no more. The fact that NYC 3001 has come up more then once pains me beyond belief.

611 is one of only two fully streamlined American steam locomotives we have left, so I'd rather have in streamlined than not, it's beautiful that way.

Forth Worth historical society? No. It's the Fort Wayne historical society. You'd figure someone named PennsyFan would know that, seeing as how the T1, S2, and other duplexes were all based out of Fort Wayne.

The locomotives that went to Brazil don't have weird truck arrangements cuz of a light loading Gage it's a narrow gauge railroad they have converted standard gauge locomotives to narrow gauge 3 ft gauge track that's what's up with those engines

The ICC had a chance for 4 Western Class I Railroads, BN, MRL, UP, and SPSF, but turned that down for 2 Western Class Is, UP and BNSF

I always fancied the idea of an alternate history where a B&O T-3 was preserved, and that was chosen for the B&O 150 Specials.

6402 AVERAGED over 90 mph for over fifty miles, which is impressive enough. You don't need stop watches or a dynamometer car to figure the average speed over long distances. The engine made better overall time between Chicago and Milwaukee than a typical run of the Hiawatha. (It's a pretty well-known fact the Hi's routinely hit 100 mph or better) If it was a hoax, like you said,, there were ordinary paying passengers on the train to vouch for the overall time. As far as Flying Scotsman is concerned, there was a slight glitch in the dynamometer read out, where the speed jumped abruptly from 98 to 100mph, as though the recording pen was bumped or something, so Scotsman may have fallen just short of the ton. I also like how the British take their own top speed claims as being written in stone, whether there's a dynamometer car on the train or not (Cheltenham Flyer, Silver Jubilee, 9F)
Also, it never ceases to amaze me how Americans diss their own country in favor of the British (who like to diss Americans anyway) For instance, the Queen Mary has been preserved at Long Beach, CA. On the other hand, the SS United States, easily the fastest ocean liner ever, is rusting away at the port of Philadelphia.

42 1597, or 42 159? I've seen a few sources that called it 159, and yet I've seen one or two that called it 1597. I wish to have some clarity on that if it's possible.

I'm not sure where I would get enough info to make that. This iceberg wasn't created by me; it was made by Thorax the Railfan. If you want to make your own or ask someone else to make a model railroad iceberg, you're more than welcome to do so.
