Im with you brother im currently on an A52 5G(4 years old) and am blown away by this phone for the price! Seems like this is the phone to beat for the money! One Plus is back and it's because of this phone!!
I was stuck between the 12 and 12r. I ended up going for the 12r. For me, this is a refined 11. Yes , with minimal compromise. The main lense works fine for me. 1.5k display looks better than fhd. Th chipsets for the 8+1 8gen2 and 8gen3 are perfectly fine. They are all fast. My biggest gripe for the 12 are 2 major things. I am coming from a 10pro and the 4k 120fps is insane and the 50 watt supervooc is there and it has the ip68 rating. When a pro version comes back ill be ready to tradein my 10pro. But picking up the 12r is an absolute win for value.
this is very true, i am upgrading from my iphone 14 pro that i spent $1000 on to this and i am trading in the iphone which will completely cover the cost of this and i expect it will be a better experience, i mean just on paper it has about double the peak brightness, 80 w charging IN BOX instead of 20 w charging, and way bigger battery. this is actually insane and gets my excited about the future of "smaller"ish manufacturers that arent just samsung and apple
We live in an era where a charger in the box is noteworthy. Does anyone remember when we used to even get headphones in the box? I'm so tired of paying more for less (looking at you Apple), I wish I could support all these smaller manufacturers.
@@Stinger430I noticed that all companies ( including Motorola) who provide fast charging provide a charger and a special charging cable in a box. I'm not sure but I think that they provide patented tech which you can't get in chargers from Anker, Belkin etc. It is just my guess.

One thing I wanted to point out after using it for a bit is how good the haptics are at this price point and how oddly small it feels for being practically 6.8 inches. Really enjoying this one. Thanks for the review Adam!
I really think that this is the best overall deal Oneplus has going right now. Oneplus usually has a $30 off deal on their website, making the base black model $369 with the any phone, any condition trade in deal. I do wish the blue version came with the 128gb variant, but what can you do. The blue 256gb version is still a great deal at $469. I think it's at least 1 tier above any similarly priced phone currently in the US.
I bought the Thinkphone and loved it. However, after comparing it to my Note 20 Ultra and the S21 FE, I found that the camera is subpar. The photos I took at a family event looked good on the phone but as soon as I zoomed in on any part of the photos, the detail was lacking and in some cases were blurred. Opening the photos on a large monitor just showed how soft-looking the images were. I returned it and pre-ordered the OnePlus 12. The 12R looks like a good phone with a camera system that beats the Thinkphone hands down. If you don't care about the cameras, either choice would be great. For me, the OnePlus 12 with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage is the much better deal.
12 and 12r share the same main camera.... And the results are basicakky the same Only zoom is added on OP12. And better uw ofc. It is a better phone but not by much in that department.
really people what do you want for $399........... you want a great camera, great battery all the updates, are you joking, then go out and buy a flag ship phone, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR...
Yeah, I mean the only thing the One Plus 12R is "lacking in" is software support and wireless charging. Honestly, isn't even lacking because that has been the standard for a long time, it's a solid window. Sure it takes some hits but for the most part its close enough to a flagship. That I dont see an issue in my opinion.
Just ordered the 256MB 12R, I've been an Android phone user for about 15 years, just tried iPhone because most of my family have it but after 90 days going back to Android.
Good video. I was going to upgrade to the new Galaxy a55, but now it isn't coming to the US. I discovered the 12R as an alternative and like what I'm hearing in the reviews. I'm going to order one this week.
This phone, for the price i paid is something special imo! I traded my oneplus8T and received 260 bucks off between buying the 256/16GB version, coupon, and trade in it came to 360 bucks!!! Last year's flagship chip, and that huge battery+block on top of so much more! An unbeatable price for a phone packing this much power!
Just ordered the phone, oneplus buds 3, and a case for $200. I traded in my zflip5 cause im done w flip phones for now and OP won me back with this killer trade in.
This is oneplus's old formula coming back in the right ways. Fantastic screen, great performance, a "good enough" camera system (although a cheap telephoto or better ultra wide would make it more compelling) and the best part, the correct price for most people. Outside the pixel series (mainly on the camera and software front) there isn't much that can beat it at the price and especially in the us. There setting the bar pretty high for other manufacturers to catch up too, and thats exciting . PHones like this are everything you need and then some, and not much your wanting for.
Totally true. I returned my sammy s24 and got the 12r with a discount was like 1/2 the price. Like, that is insane in the US and will definitely put the other big players on notice.
I've been debating buying a Thinkphone to finally replace my aging Galaxy Note 8. Motorola jacked up the price to full msrp in Canada so I held off but has now dropped it again and now the OP 12R has come out and price is super compelling. As a user of both which would you recommend? Battery life is super important to me and will mostly be using 'businessy' apps (MS 365, email, web searches, OneDrive, calendar stuff). I haven't used DeX much due to some hardware issues that seems to prevent it from reliably connecting. But I like the idea of Ready For on moto. Curious which would get your nod of approval if you had ~ C$550 ($400 ish) between these 2 phones
This is the midrange to beat this year. This is more than enough phone for the vast majority of people and the price is excellent(and itll go even lower in a few months) Good job Oneplus.
I've had to send my OnePlus 12R back twice now, due to Google Voice Assistant not working. 'Hey, Google' and 'Okay, Google' were both not working. I tried all the tricks, retrained my voice, turned it off, back on. Reset device, which fixed it, but only for a few hours. The place I bought it from couldn't replicate the fault so sent it back. I recorded a video of the issue, showed them URLs with people having the exact same fault with the phone. Finally, they can replicate the fault and it's being repaired or replaced. I copied my files to it several times. Luckily I didn't delete stuff from old phone yet.
This type of phone seems to be the trend. A combination of mid-range and flagship features with the previous years high in chipset. When you think about this, it makes a lot of sense. Just because it's last year's flagship chipset doesn't make it worse. In this instance, the Snapdragon 8 generation 2 will be relevant for many years. In fact, it's the same chipset that's in my 11. Especially, since the 12r will be going up to $599.99 after the pre-order is over. Simply put, the 11 has the features including quad HD that the 12r is missing.
@@proudbacteria1373 in fact, I follow their pricing from year to year and they usually do at some point. You have to catch it at the correct time. At most, the only thing you lose is 1 year of updates. Updates are important to me but, for some people they're not. Myself, I pre-ordered the 12. However, I chose to keep my 11. I require two flagship devices so, I really didn't want to get rid of it.
Honestly, I'd go for the Oneplus. The 12R is looking to be a really solid phone. Especially for trade in any phone in any condition, whether it turns on or not, and receiving a one hundred dollar credit is just awesome.
How do you think this would compare to the Pixel 8? If price wasn't an issue, just pound for pound, which one do you think is a better deal. Any insight would be greatly appreciated
Thinkphone has wireless charging and IP68 rating. Snapdragon Gen 1+ (extremely fast) but camera system is not very good. Motorola really fell down in this aspect with subpar and soft images. Thanks for the update TechOdyssey! Went straight to check out what our options look like the UK and was dissappointed to see that only the 16GB RAM variant is available, starting at £650 - Thats ~$810!!!
I don't think you really need wireless charging if you can just plug your phone in for 15 minutes and have almost a day's worth of battery. Other phones have wireless charging because they are too slow. Additionally, wireless charging generates more heat on the battery compared to the wired charging method.
@@ayouboughar4673 I use wireless charging exclusively especially overnight using my phone as a clock and looking at the current temperature. Perhaps you have other needs.
Anybody else have this issue with their OnePlus 12 r. I recently purchased mine and I've been having issues with the hey Google voice detection not working. I've tried everything to fix it so I just requested a replacement phone.
I was going to hold out and see what the pixel brings later this year, but this phone is really giving me second thoughts, especially as a secondary/backup. I hope Oneplus and other OEMs continue to gain popularity for those that don’t get caught up in the hype and simply want a good device.
The 12r is gonna be my future daily driver. A entry level flagship phone at a midrange price. The 12r would be a true flagship killer if it had expandable memory and a headphone jack. Update: Order it on Sunday, and I should be getting it on Halloween tomorrow. On a special, I got a free pair of earbuds, the standard oneplus buds 3.
I'm debating on upgrading my wife from the s20fe to the 12r. You get $160 for the fe so it comes to like 360 for the 12r. Is it hard to transfer data from Samsung to the oneplus? My wife wants everything to come with it if she switches, I know that already.
Its easy, just use oneplus switch app, but only copy files and Photos, dont transfer apps, since that usually causes battery drain bugs on every android
@fraghead9813 nah not a oneplus thing, the switch apps have gotten smarter and not copying system settings and cache but sometimes when going from one brand to the other it still makes a mess. Better safe than sorry.

Smaller phones just doesn't sell well enough they'd be losing money probably
Is this better than the pixel 7 pro?
Quick question 7 pro or this. Thank you.
I have 7 pro.... I'm thinking about it...
I just want a phone not a oven😂
Does it do portrait video (bokeh efffect) like the 12?
Does it have Display Port (DP) support mode over USB?
Thanks for the update TechOdyssey! Went straight to check out what our options look like the UK and was dissappointed to see that only the 16GB RAM variant is available, starting at £650 - Thats ~$810!!!
Yeah that stinks that they charge you guys so much more for these phones.
What does 1+ have against wireless charging?
I don't think you really need wireless charging if you can just plug your phone in for 15 minutes and have almost a day's worth of battery. Other phones have wireless charging because they are too slow. Additionally, wireless charging generates more heat on the battery compared to the wired charging method.
@@ayouboughar4673 I use wireless charging exclusively especially overnight using my phone as a clock and looking at the current temperature. Perhaps you have other needs.
Hi, do you have a refferal code for one plus 12 😊
Only through Best Buy, not through the actual OonePlus website.
@TechOdyssey Thanks, but I need website ones
Great review, and i love the price. More phones need to be like this. (As im using my new old stock Red Hydrogen One) .
That's an offer i can't refuse
I never refuse and offer i can't refuse
I'm getting that beautiful blue phone
It looks so smooth
Anybody else have this issue with their OnePlus 12 r. I recently purchased mine and I've been having issues with the hey Google voice detection not working. I've tried everything to fix it so I just requested a replacement phone.
What's the software difference between the 12r & the pixel?
Quite a bit. I'd say there's more software customization on the one plus but doesn't have the AI stuff that is specific only to pixel phones.
Does OnePlus always have the $150 trade in? I'm always afraid it will go away before I buy the 12r
I was going to hold out and see what the pixel brings later this year, but this phone is really giving me second thoughts, especially as a secondary/backup. I hope Oneplus and other OEMs continue to gain popularity for those that don’t get caught up in the hype and simply want a good device.
Where did you find to buy this phone for $500?
The lack of mmWave 5g is a deal breaker for me.
Why
I been thinking about upgrading my wife too
Its easy, just use oneplus switch app, but only copy files and Photos, dont transfer apps, since that usually causes battery drain bugs on every android
@@Aloolol huh, I've never had an issue switching everything from samsung to samsung. I wonder if it's a oneplus thing?
@fraghead9813 nah not a oneplus thing, the switch apps have gotten smarter and not copying system settings and cache but sometimes when going from one brand to the other it still makes a mess. Better safe than sorry.
@Aloolol no for sure, I just know if anything messed up my wife would snap on me haha she worries about that crap. I'll have to look into it and see what happens.
It's actually 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security updates, not 4 & 5 years.
Thank you Adam been waiting on this video.🎉🎉🎉
Almost perfect but i wanna know whether i can sideload apk on this tho?
My poco x6 pro cant do that for most 3rd party apps like vidmate
You said it, it's a great phone for the price. Without a doubt 🧐. Thanks for getting it out there...
So what's missing Adam? There's always something missing if a phone with good specs is only $499.
No telephoto and no wireless charge..but u have Snapdragon and 5000mah
@@favourhussein38025500mah*
There are things missing on $1000+ phones as well. Expandable storage, headphone jack, charger in the box...
@@jihigh482 we've gone past that...I don't think earphone jack us necessary again because there is airpods...charger is necessary though but microsd isnt again due to 128gb
@@jihigh482 9 to 5 Gogke reckon the 8 mega pixel ultra wide lens is awful.
I think I might buy this…..
Go for it
I would have totally been tempted by one of these, if only the reviews had come out before I went through the hassle of pre-ordering my S24 Ultra!
Wireless charging on the 12r?
Nope
No. Sadly
4 yrs of OS support? i thought it was just 2?
Can you do a video on OnePlus buds 3? 😁
I bought it for battery life!!! It is over 9 hrs 21 mins with the most stressful tests!!!!!! Before the battery ran out lol 😂 it's snappy and fast thanks one plus for this beast of a phone 📱
Loving mine so far
It's still expensive here in the UK 😢
Sorry to hear that. What about the OnePlus 12R?
@@TechOdyssey £849 UK price. ☹️
Plan on getting this to replace my iPhone 15 plus
I just got this great phone for $350 on Amazon prime day !
Interesting though that 9 to 5 Google has just described the 8mgp ultra wide and 2mgp macro lens as awful. I suppose you could say that they would say that woulldnt they.
It's 720 € here and they only sell 256 GB
I think you are wrong about the fastest storage.
OnePlus 12R or Xiaomi 13T Pro?
I like to know about this too?
12R comes with only 3 years android and 4 years security update
256gb 16 ram still over 500usd not 399
Great content. Cool phone, but for me, I'll stick with my s23 ultra. Can't stand the camera bump.
It’s not for everyone.
Haven't had a 📱 with an ir blaster in at least 10 years. 😮
First of all thanks for this helpfull review. Unfoftunately in Europe Germany Smartphones seems to be more expansive . In Germany i would Pay for it 650 us Dollars . But compared to the Pixel 8 Pro it would bei around 900 Dollars
even If I would choose the Asian import of one plus 12 It would not be cheaper
No wireless charging no buy. I've had USB c ports die and then what? The phone is dead.
That's a pretty extreme of an event to happen for a phone. But you do you.
What do you do with your phones to kill a USB port?
I usually keep my phones for at least 2-3 years and not once the USB port died on me.
5:05 The OP9 Pro had IP68.
And it also cost more. One reason they rolled the prices back down.
