What an excellent presentation - congratulations and thanks. Barrow Road Shed was my home from home from 1958-64.

Many thanks for these. They brought back many memories of spotting there in the mid-sixties. 😊

Excellent montage. Thoroughly enjoyed viewing. What a shed BBR must have been, I never got to visit..living up in the West Riding. Im sure you will have seen the pics on Flicker that captured when two locos collided just under the road bridge. One of them was pushed up over on its wheels. Bet someone got a right rollocking that day . Good luck with your future presentation

Thanks for collating these pictures, it brought back many memories of walking along Barrow Road to and from School (Bristol Secondary Technical - Building Department) in the late 50's early 60's no matter what the weather was.

An excellent collection of photos. Brings back happy memories, not only of my time at Bristol Technical School in the early 60's, but also of Sunday mornings on the top deck of the 36 getting as many numbers as possible as we travelled over Barrow road bridge on my way to visit my Gran (who lived in Bedminster and her house backed onto Maligo Vale carriage sidings). Days never forgotten.

Hello Mike. Glad you enjoyed it. It is memories like these that never fade. The top deck of the 36 must have been the best view of Barrow Road you could have had. Regards Dave.

Lovely collection of photos of Barrow Rd and it's environments and to see some of the late Roger Lukers shots included was a real bonus. Brings back fond memories of days long gone.

Hello Martin. Yes I met Roger years ago. He was a friend of my great mate Derek Fleming who wrote the Barrow Road book ' Midland Outpost'. Regards Dave.

Dave-many thanks for this-I spent many hours on the bridge at Barrow Road in the late 50’s as a kid having come over from Bath on the Midland line . Crabs and unrebuilt Patriots- happy days!

I used to cycle 10 miles about twice a month to look round Barrow Rd, what a treasure trove of engines, copped my first Easstern there

Memories of my time in the mid 60's when I was at Bristol Secondary Technical school. Every lunchtime you could find a row of small boys hanging from the wall overlooking the yards, trying to see what engines were in. The wall was too high for most of us and many were the tellings off for scuffing the toes of our shoes when scrambling up to get a look.

Hello Bill. Happy days. I think that the Technical School was full of trainspotters from the amount of comments I receive from them. Regards Dave.

@@historymandave4739 It was every young lads dream to be an engine driver in those days. Sadly those days were gone even before I left school.

I lived in Robert Street off the corner of Barrow Road in the 50's. I have just finished a short story about living so close to the scenes depicted in your photos. ( almost views from my back yard). I would love to get a few copies of similar photos. I wonder if you are able to suggest where . Thanks for the memories.

I attended the 2015 event and was amazed by the number at the meeting and I even managed to speak to Donald Flook once more. You have an interesting set of photographs some of which I have not seen before. Are you able to provide any copies? Have you seen the 4mm scale model of the Engine shed and yard which I am currently working on?

Hello Robin. Nice to speak to you. It was a great shame that our 2020 55th Anniversary event was cancelled. Donald Flook took some great photos. I have met many ex Barrow Road shed and footplate staff over the years. I have a spreadsheet listing 344 people who have worked at Barrow Road. I have followed your model of Barrow Road on the Internet and You Tube over the years. It is a fantastic model and a credit to your modelling skills. I have been collecting pictures of Barrow Road for as long as I can remember. The only thing is I don't always know the original source. If there are particular pictures you are after I could supply you with a digital copy. You can contact me through the Barton Hill History Group Website. www.bhhg.co.uk. Regards Dave.
