    Quick tip: if you're building this in survival, you can substitute the blocks on the inside of the outer walls for dirt to save on building materials. Bonus points if you use Gravel instead, which will automatically seal up any breaches caused by explosions and prevent players from just mining straight through.

    I've built a lot of your builds and I can say this.....you never disappoint!
    1 suggestion however, especially with the huge builds like this is when you show us the layout, you should put in the numbers of how long/wide it is, so we don't have to count, like you did with some of your previous builds. Other than that, this is 100% my favorite build of yours yet and it boggles my mind how quickly you get these videos out!

    A few things I would change:
    1: Obsidian lining in those outer walls, only for people who have a good lava farm or are willing to mine out a few of the pillars in the End, maybe even embed the Obsidian lining several blocks down as a solid foundation.
    2. Place stone brick walls in between the battlements instead of stairs, this will allow defenders to shoot anyone directly below the battlements, mimicking a real feature on castles known as Machicolations.
    3. *Do not* copy the battlements onto the interior of the wall, not only will this save on materials but it’s also historically accurate, if the defenders lose the outer wall to attackers then the attackers will be able to use those inward facing battlements against the defenders.

    So I've been attempting to build this in survival [1.21] as a place to live. I've swapped some blocks around for aesthetic reasons (mainly deepslate, tuff, , mud bricks, and copper blocks). I think it's a very good build. Looks great. Nearly done at the time of typing this, just got the Lord's Seat and "Roofs" to go.
    However I do have some... suggestions, if you happen to see this (I recognize this is an older video, so some of this might have already been rectified):
    [1] Please explain every step as you are doing them, no matter how tedious. There are many instances of you just... _doing_ a thing, such as counting out blocks in your head before putting down a floor or window or the trim around a wall/tower, and for those of us following along, that can be MADDENING if we want to make sure things line up. Even just a post-video note saying "I ultimately went 5-blocks up and started the trim there." It especially doesn't help when you start using commands (such as the one in the Lord's Seat to make the floor) without giving any direction as to what you are doing, so we don't know what it is that you are going for.
    [2] This one is probably one of my bigger complaints. You have a tendency to "skip around" in your build. A perfect example is the "Guard Room" tiny tower's roof. You start building it, leave it to work on the reinforcement, then start working on the inside.... but after opening the doorways, you leave to work on underside of the tower... then finally finish the roof. That's just ONE example, but the "Bigger Wall/Tower/Gate" (or as I've been calling it, the "Portcullis") also has a lot of bounding around. It's a nightmare to navigate between the ups and downs and all-arounds you end up doing. It'd be great if you focused on one task to completion for the sake of the people following along so we didn't have to either follow along with you, or skip through the video to the point where you finish the part we are currently working on.
    [3] It's very clear you are making this build up as you go along - and that's genuinely fine. But I'd definitely cut that out of the final build video. Some of us following along are following you along to the letter, and are pausing after every few seconds to do what you are doing.... but in survival. When you decide to backtrack because you change your mind about something, I have to suddenly go back and undo work that might not be as easy to reach as it is for you. So consider making sure you like the way it looks before you put it to "film".... then simply undo it and record doing it again... or perhaps already have the model made, take a screenshot or 70 and refer to them for the actual build video.
    [4] I'm fairly certain your build is specifically empty on the inside by design. A lot of folks build things for the curb appeal. But that said, I have to say, your build has TONS of dead space to it. The "Gate" has tons of NOTHING going on to it, and the multiple towers feel almost unnecessary. Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting you to go filling every nook and cranny of every area like some building tutorialists on youtube do (I always find them so cramped), but a little decoration might be nice. Or at least a little more use of the space.
    Overall, it's still a REALLY good build... heck, I'm still building it (I'm in too deep.... slate), I just think some of the presentation needs some work.

  • @stepal6958
    @stepal6958 11 месяцев назад +1

    The build itself 10/10, looks great and is very impressive. The tutorial, maybe 6/10, it is incredibly frustrating in some parts. The sped up building, building walls behind other walls so you can't see what's going on, fade outs right as a wall or something is finished off meaning you often can't catch the last part etc. Just a quick pause for a second or two on each side of something would have been very helpful. I understand the speeding up in a video that is already two hours long but when 1 second can equal several levels of wall on four sides of a tower or something it makes it difficult even to pause and copy the build.
    There are another couple of small issues. You end up building things in an order that means you aren't connecting things with the things you just built, meaning you have to really measure everything carefully, sometimes 30-40 blocks away, to make sure it will line up properly. Obviously these things are always more of an effort to build in survival but the order of some parts is quite random and I would definitely recommend sometimes watching a little ahead to save yourself some time so you're not building high then low then high again if you're not in creative.
    I don't wish to sound overly negative, as I said it's a really great build. It's just a bit frustrating sometimes and very slow going trying to pause in the exact place to follow the tutorial and get the right frame where you can see how it's supposed to be done.

    Also, I'm reading about a lot of people struggling to get the stone etc. I used a cobble tnt farm attached to a small supersmelter with a carpet farm as fuel. the cobble farm generates 120.000 cobble/ hr. Smelter is a lot slower (1.5 double chests/hr) but I have yet to run out. by the time my planning and terraforming was done I had about 80.000 stone.

      I did it! In survival, it took weeks but I've gotten it completely finished. It is so cool to have something of this scale in your survival world, so worth the effort. I've built it right next to a village, I'll be breeding villagers like crazy now and have the castle entirely populated.

  • @Deathstroke-bs8gx
    @Deathstroke-bs8gx Год назад

    I am befuddled that I am only 40 minutes into this tutorial and I have spent at least 15-8 hours or more just building it, but perhaps I am overestimating the time I have spent (and that is not even counting the time, gathering all the materials) days of listening, but it finally gives me a reason to listen to my favorite podcast.
    It is always dreadful to when I realize how much more I have to do, or when I realize I made a part of my layout to wide or long, like one wall, I thought was 4 blocks wide, but actually was 3 blocks wide, I noticed my error when I finished building the second corner tower and one of the connecting walls sticked out and not aligned with the tower.
    so I mined one block of the filler inside then just copied the front blocks as I went up replacing them. then mined the outer old blocks.
    I was dumbfounded when you just copied the 4 bigger inner wall/towers things in 10 seconds, and I realized I had to do the other 3 by hand again.
    the most annoying parts so far in video I find, is when you are placing blocks, and the other blocks in front, cutoff and hide blocks behind, which I have to skip around frame by frame to find a full look of hidden blocks, like during wall building or gate, tower, etc
    also the black out transitions, blur some blocks, and cuts off before the last blocks are placed can be seen
