QUICK NOTE: On July 5th, I was struck with a sudden copyright takedown on the original version of this video due to a short clip utilized in chapter one. For the past two days I've been working to have this resolved amicably on the backend, however the other party and I were unable to reach a suitable resolution.
Because this is a reupload, any and all support on this video helps. Whether viewing it again, liking, or commenting, I appreciate any support you all can give🖤
    Love yall.

As much as I enjoy lost media study, I think we all have to be careful not to fall into a place where we feel entitled to witness a person’s life, especially the worst parts or the end of someone’s life, just because it happened to be recorded. In the tech and Information age we live in, it’s important to draw lines in the sand when it comes to peoples’ rights to privacy and how precious human life is.

@@tylerd1297I watch and listen to a lot of true crime and also missing people, I completely agree with you. A big majority of people are quite disturbing in their comments.
This comment which I read yesterday just about sums it up
" My weekly dose of serotonin is when you post"
This was on a true crime content creators latest video which of course was murder related. Seriously, people get a seratonin boost from other people's horrendous demise?
I also recently posted on one of this is monsters videos------ "if there was a happy ending in this video, most people in this comment section would be disappointed"
I'm not interested in the gore, I'm interested in the why and how people end up in the life or situation that they do. I know enough about murderer's to understand they do not deserve the weird idolisation of them. I prefer to listen to the life story and know the name of the victim, so what if their life was just normal and 'boring', I think they deserve that little bit of time that you are watching or listening. It's just a little bit of time to reflect on a stranger's life and hope they are at peace.
They are who are important and often forgotten.

Japanese viewer passing by… apparently another theory for the origin of Jeff surfaced recently, citing the image as a edit of a selfie of a woman called 真理子 (Mariko). The facial outlines and mouth appear to be very similar to that of the first image of Jeff. “Internet idols” were a big thing in the early 2000s Japanese internet, where Japanese women would post selfies on websites for attention and approval; most Japanese forum users, however, would ridicule these people and edit and repost the images into essentially memes. Jeff could be one of these crude edits, and the original image happened to be lost to a deleted forum page.

then at approx 10pm brandes tried to get out of the bathtub by himself, fell down, meiwes moved him to the bed and they went to sleep. at 5am meiwes stabbed his neck on the bed twice, brandes was by that point barely conscious but breathing. Everything caught on tape
That’s how he was convicted of murder, that although the night was consensual, the actual killing wasn’t. brandes didn’t say “stab me in the neck” he wasn’t even conscious. but he was breathing, so it was murder

As someone that's always been fascinated by Tornadoes, so as soon as saw the first chapter was called "3 Mile Monster" I knew it was going to be about El Reno.
It can't be overstated what an extreme event it was, not only in sheer size but also in the deviant motion of the storm, the lack of a defined edge to the tornadic wind field, and the multiple, stronger sub-vortices within the tornado itself. It was truly a worst case scenario for storm chasing, Twistex, a well respected team of chasers, were doing everything 'by the book' to try and escape but unfortunately due to the freak circumstances at play, ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Multiple other chaser teams were also caught off guard but thankfully made it out with their lives.

    • @Kveldred
      @Kveldred 4 месяца назад +31

      Couple other interesting notes:
      ---------------------------------------
      • There's a study available which uses both damage indicators and (Doppler-radar-measured) air velocity to examine the El Reno event. A consistent picture of its interior structure emerges: as is often the case, the extreme winds are localized to sub-vortices within the main funnel.
The interesting / awful thing is: the paper doesn't just plot the movement of each interior vortex, but also the movement of TWISTEX... and I believe it is no exaggeration at all to say: _just a few minutes, or few feet, of difference_ - and they would have likely made it.
They were ridiculously, horrifyingly unlucky. Two times, IIRC - just two times, localized to areas ~50ft? in diameter, for the thing's _entire lifespan_ - it seems one of the strongest sub-vortices decided to, _for some hellish reason,_ sort of double back and chill in place for a bit.
The latter time this occurs... is right on top of TWISTEX.
50ft, or maybe even just 30ft, forward/back/outward... or reaching _that spot_ just thirty seconds sooner or later... and I am not sure they wouldn't have driven right out.
      ---------------------------------------
      • The footage from that other chaser who was very close - wherein you can see Samaras behind him on the road... and then disappear, IIRC - is also interesting, because at one point he is actually _really close_ to THE nastiest spot of the entire storm, _at the exact time it's nastiest._
*Right by* _the_ worst damage / max measured windspeed / strongest vortex of the entire event. In the video, of course, you can only see a veil of wind and water - but to think of what was behind it...
I suppose for every piece of bad luck, someone's gotta have a piece of good!
      -------------------------------------
I ought to get back to work - but I'll try to come back and put forward my own candidate for "most destructive --finger of the Death-God-- ...twister* ever recorded."
Not a lot of people know about it, for some reason - well, storm chasers excepted; I'm certainly not alone in putting it forward as "maybe the worst" (though its relative obscurity means we're a select group, if I do say so myself) - but there are many elements of the event that indicate something truly monstrous.
Gives me the goddamn shivers every time I think of it.

On the cannibal case- 1) The victim may not have been in his right mind to be able to consent to be killed (I would bet that he wasn't) and 2) Society as a whole would benefit by avoiding setting a precedent that would essentially allow a loophole for one person killing another, however slim the chances, in order to both discourage, and avoid encouraging the actions in the future.

    Ahh, the El Reno tornado.
For those wondering, they didn’t just misjudge its size simply because it was rain wrapped, it LITERALLY doubled in size in less than a minute, and turned to cut them off at just the correct spot. And to make things even WORSE, it SPED UP.
This tornado was an abomination that we had never before seen, and still have yet to see one even remotely like it since then.
The rain wrap was actually a part of the tornado, and people didn’t realize it until the “rain wrap” was spinning towards them of at least 55 mph, faster than most could drive away. For decades, not a single storm chaser had lost their life. Well, this monstrosity did not care… It killed 9 storm chasers total. Yes, that is correct, it went from 0, all the way to 9 with a single tornado. I can not recommend researching and watching videos about this tornado enough. It felt supernatural, and as if the tornado was alive and sentient.
It is tied for having the highest recorded wind speeds on Earth, clocking in at 302 mph!!

From what I've read a huge reason distorted faces scare us innately has to do with our evolution. Our ability to see patterns, particularly with faces, helped us survive forever... It helps a lot for early humans to scan the savannah and see a lion's face out there and then go, "well, fuck that, going another way" and just got burnt into us over and over and over that when we see a distorted face, particularly with an open mouth, we kinda retreat into our primary instinct to get away in fear because we may be attacked.

As someone who lives in Oklahoma (about 45 min from El Reno) and has followed the 2013 storm online in great detail (I didn’t live in OK at the time, but had friends that took shelter from this storm), it was fascinating seeing Tim Samaras as the feature of the first video. It truly was a shame to see what happened to him, his son and his colleague. I actually didn’t know that his footage survived the storm (I have seen Tim’s car wreckage after the fact, so I was amazed anything they had was salvageable).
I’ll be completely blunt, I get pretty pissed off at the people that mocked his death regarding the “he should have known the dangers of chasing tornados.” Well, here is my response to these A-holes…
    1. Tim didn’t just go out chasing tornados for fun. He was a researcher. He studied tornados and made inventions that helped develop the science of forecasting and understanding how tornados work. He was doing work to help people understand tornados and take precautions from them. People act like Tim Samaras and the Twistex team were a bunch of Pesos Bills when they were anything but.
    2. The El Reno tornado still to this day is a complete anomaly. It did things that we had never seen a tornado do before nor do since. It grew to a size never seen before in a matter of seconds and changed directions unexpectedly. No storm chaser ever goes out expecting to document a 2.6 mile wide tornado that can change directions on a dime.
I think there are a lot of people out there that seem to have this misunderstanding that being a storm chaser is a stupid, dangerous venture when in all actuality, storm chasers are incredibly important people. While radar technology has made significant advances in the last 30-40 years, it still can’t provide a clear understanding of what’s happening on the ground. Storm chasers relay important information to meteorologists. Many are also the first responders to victims who are injured or trapped under debris. I’ve watched several storm chaser videos where they are going out and helping people after the storm.
To insult the lives of storm chasers after they’ve been lost is in such bad taste that I get disgusted at the people that mock it. If you’re one of these people, you’re sick in the head. Get some help. Mocking the death of anyone is already in pretty bad taste, let alone someone who was trying to do some good in this world.

THIS is what makes the media "lost." But sometimes, the status of this "lost media" can change. Rumor is that they will be releasing all the footage of one of my holy grail pieces of lost media, "The Day the Clown Cried," which is an unreleased Holocaust movie from the 70s starring Jerry Lewis as a circus clown imprisoned in a concentration camp.

To this day, I get scared and get into the safe closet just to feel better. I live in Houston, so we get bad weather from all directions, but flooding has been much much more horrific here than anything else. Now knowing how destructive a force even slowly rising water can be, I’m afraid of flooding too. Spring and Summer are awful for me.

@@MegCazalet I also have pretty bad weather anxiety. Last year, my town got hit by either an F-1 or F-0 tornado. My ceiling in my bedroom had fallen in so me and my bf had been sleeping with our mattress on the floor in our living room (of our 2nd story, old home apartment… ) I’ll never forget him waking me up around midnight telling me our power went out. Then immediately getting a tornado warning on my phone. Grabbed my cat and we sat in the bathroom. I knew we needed to be in a basement, but we didn’t have access to it, and it’s not like we had the time to get there. Power was knocked out for 3-4 days, with smaller towns nearby losing it even longer.
Now I’m constantly keeping up with the weather, and always try to be aware of severe weather nearby or even states away. I get really anxious when the wind picks up, or when I see dark clouds forming.

    • @MegCazalet
      @MegCazalet 10 месяцев назад +3

@@theonlybingledingle Ohmygosh, how scary! We don’t even have a basement, because most homes don’t down here. I’m glad you were able to grab your cat in time, because that would’ve been so much extra harrowing. How long did you take cover in the bathroom? How did you guys manage the following days without power? Were you prepared with emergency supplies? No wonder you have weather anxiety. I’m surprised more people don’t. Severe weather of every kind is such a destructive force it’s horrifying. And it’s only going to get more extreme.
Aside from fearing the initial destruction, the aftermath terrifies me as well. The injuries, the chaos, the destruction, the people and animals suffering, and the danger of no power and no working water in hot temperatures. With hurricanes, I’ve been through it firsthand, especially Harvey. But possibly worse was my now-husband and I on the road for 30 hours just trying to make the usually 4 hour trip to Dallas, during the deadly exodus from Houston in fear of Hurricane Rita, in 2005, a month after Katrina. We had my two dogs, and left at 4 am, 2 days before estimated landfall, thinking we’d beat the traffic. We had no provisions just some wet wipes, thinking we’d stop along the way, but there was no gas and shelves everywhere were empty, and eventually to conserve gas we had to keep the AC off. I could only wipe the dogs ears with wipes to try to cool them down. I saw families abandon dead pets along the road who had died from the heat. I was terrified for our dogs, and for all of us. I eventually fully expected to run out of gas on a backroad and have to try to survive the hurricane in the car. We’d exited the highway thinking it would be less backed up. It was not. But luckily around midnight, 20 hours on the road but having traveled the distance of a normal 2 hours, we made it to a gas station that still had its lights on, meaning it had gas, and we literally were pumping gas when they turned the lights off. We were the last to get gas, with hundreds of cars behind us. We finally paid for hose water in paper cups from an industrious rural homeowner who had set up a stand by the near stand-still traffic on the backroad.
Long story short, we eventually made it safely to my aunts house, and I slept for over 24 hours, only to wake to the news that Rita had not hit Houston. My husband says he’ll never evacuate again unless it’s advised and orderly. So, never. My in-laws generously bought us a generator after the Freeze of ‘21, but if the gas mains are interrupted or damaged, we’re screwed. My parents, on the other hand, leave the moment there’s a named storm in the Gulf, and just vacation at my Dallas aunt’s mansion for a few days. All I can do is worry till I puke. I don’t want to take my anxiety pills in a storm because I want a clear head for an emergency. It’s a mess! I’m so sorry you’re suffering too, and had to actually deal with a tornado hitting your town. I hope it stays clear and calm for you from here on out ❤️

I've heard about the Leonard Lake and Charles Ng case many times now, and what disturbs me the most now is that there is a large community of people that really want to get their hands on the "M Ladies" tapes. I'm pretty sure that's what they were called and I don't think anyone knows why. The whole thing is just atrocious.

I've never abhorred any murderers more than those two. I try not to judge people, but if anyone deserves to rot in hell for eternity, it's them. I'm disgusted that Ng has lived longer than most of his victims, albeit on death row. Hopefully someone in that prison gave him a taste of his own medicine.
Leonard's killing himself shows just what a spineless, cowardly piece of shit he was. I wonder how Ng felt knowing that his "buddy" left him to face the music.

I remember hearing about Twistex for the first time. I felt so bad about being fascinated by such a tragedy and wanting to see the footage they got on their last drive. It taught me about what morbid curiosity was, and the cognitive dissonance that comes with intense curiosity and also wanting to respect the victims of tragedies. I hope their families are doing alright. The crew's work was never in vain.
