It will be a sad sad day here in Milwaukee when Bob passes away. He could have gone ANYwhere but chose to be here and we love him. God bless Bob Uecker.
I am proud that Mr. Uecker is a Wisconsinite. He represents everything that is great about baseball. We have been so lucky to have him announce the Brewers. I have been listening to him since the 70s. Unbelievably funny...his stories are hilarious. Thank you Ueck.
I watched him my whole life watched him live many nights on Johnny Carson those beer commercials were the best this tears for you Bob uecker you are the best
I'm replaying the 1966 season with APBA Baseball. In one of my games, Bob hit a walkoff HR for the Phillies against Bob Gibson and the Cardinals. I fell out of my chair laughing with glee as my dice hit the floor 😅😅😅😅
I recall laughing so hard reading “Catcher in the Rye” back in 1983. So much so that I banged my head on a wall so hard and almost ended up in concussion protocol. Bob is awesome!!
Whenever, I heard that Bob Uecker was going to be on Carson's show I stayed up to watch it. It was "clean" humor, no worries about bad language or anything like that if was just plain fun.
So many comments about his deadpan. That intensified the humor to no end. Great stuff, I saw him on Carson a few times snd always enjoyed. He really caught me off guard because on Carson I never expected a pro ball player to do such an imaginative act. The total picture was just unique.
It was May 5, 1988. I was driving from my home in Maine to my home town in Iowa, and had time to make a right at Chicago, and up the west coast of Lake Michigan. I got to Milwaukee's County Stadium around 4 p.m. and purchased my box seat ticket, three rows up from the Brewers on-deck circle, but the gates didn't open for another two hours. I drove around the area around the ballpark but got back just in time to still be one of the only fans there so early. Finally, I walked in the gate, bought a Brewers yearbook (Paul Molitor was on the cover), and a hot dog and headed for my seat. I was just about the only one in the whole place except, I noticed, down around the area by the Brewers on deck circle there was a guy talking to one of the Texas Rangers, sitting in the stands. As I got closer I saw that the guy had a tape recorder in his hand and was talking to talking to Davy Lopes (it said 'LOPES' on the back of his jersey. I knew he was one of the coaches of Rangers, and was the former Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman (Ron Cey, Bill Russell, Lopes, Steve Garvey) back in the 70s. Finally, I got a good look at the guy Lopes was talking to, and of course, you guessed it, it was Mr. Baseball, Bob Uecker! He was interviewing Lopes for his broadcast that evening. I walked down and stood about 15 feet away, giving them their space until they were done. Finally, a few minutes later, they wrapped it up, and Ueuker looked up at me, kind of grumpily, like I'd walked in on him coming out of the shower. I'd had a few minutes to think of how I would approach this situation. I wanted both of their autographs on my Brewers yearbook, but . . . how to ask? So, I said to Uecker, "Hey Buddy, yer in my seat," leaving him the perfect opening to finish the Miller Lite commercial from the 70s, "I must be in the FRONT rooooowwwwe!" Lopes laughed. Uecker, instead, says, "Sorry," and then walked away. Disappointment doesn't begin to describe my state. I'm pretty sure that I wasn't the first stranger he had disappointed after that commercial made him a household name. I'd guess he'd grown pretty tired of it by a decade or so later. Still, though, I think he's one of the best baseball play-by-play announcers ever.
With his millions of jokes one of his most memorable to me was when said no one should come back after their career and write a tell all book or bashing this beloved game. It was very good to him BUT he was even better for it!
Bob Uecker forever! Or, the Bob Uecker sports celebrities of Mr. Ueckers level of whom can continue to enjoy their chosen profession, make light of the fact they were not the chosen of their sport specialty, have fun with it all and continue to contribute to all of us in this country to have some laughs once in awhile about celebrity sports / sports celebrities. Dean Mountlake Terrace
I remember the first time he was on Carson and I was surprised since I only knew him from baseball cards as a backup catcher. He was hilarious and I have loved him ever since. He was asked by Johnny for his greatest thrill in baseball and he said it was the time he saw a fan fall out of the upper deck in Philadelphia. Then he described how difficult it was to hit .200 because the pitchers were so good they could hit your bat if you weren't quick. I laughed so hard I cried. His Hall of Fame speech had all the other players crying.
I have always loved Bob Uecker, his self deprecating personality and sense of humor are best…..it will be a sad day for the city of Milwaukee and baseball when Ueck heads to the big ballpark in the sky. I grew up in Los Angeles and am to this day a Dodgers fan and we just lost Vin Scully recently
Good old Mr. .200 as the boys in the dugout used to call him. He was one of the funniest guys that Johnny used to have on the show, along with Art Donovan.
The part of his his HOF speech when he tell about the time he and his brothers tried to play with a football their father gave them absolutely kills me, look for it to see all those Hall Of Famers laughing so hard some of them ended up crying.
Despite not being the greatest player ever, he hit .200 for his career, he hit sandy Koufax really well no joke, because sandy threw a lot of fastballs, and Bob was a really good fastball hitter, he would own today's game with all those fastballs they throw, he might hit up to 5 home runs a year.
You gotta love Bob Uecker! I'm not quite old enough to have seen him play( when he did play) but, from what I've read about him, he was a very good,if not great, defensive catcher. He just couldn't hit well enough.
In his entire major league career,Bob only ever got 15 home runs. However,5 of those were off Sandy Koufax! When Bob would step up to the plate,he'd smaile and wave "Hiya Sandy!"...Koufax didn't know wether to laugh or cry.
Love this guy, "not a Catcher, but a chaser" that straight face though!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting, good taste!!! Edit, added i should have have waited to the end to post a comment.
Bob ueckers the funniest, most comical baseball player in the universe. Ex baseball player. And probably the only reason he was on the team is for morale, it kept them in stitches and laughing all the time. The teams wanted players with smiles on their faces so Bob complied. Pretty good wages for a comedian back then. 👍😁⚾️
I'm from the UK and my only exposure to Bob was the movie Major League and that time he got choked by Andre the Giant. That was enough to make me a fan
You know...there are some humans I wish could go on forever. RUclips, I suppose thanks is in order with regard....how cool must it be to get straight talk from a guy as a friend to him. Let me call my bud Uecker.
GEEZ!! YT's blasted this video with commercials galore, greed of copyright content is out of control!
It will be a sad sad day here in Milwaukee when Bob passes away. He could have gone ANYwhere but chose to be here and we love him. God bless Bob Uecker.
Dont rush it

Bob Uecker is a national treasure. He should be considered a legend among anyone who loves baseball or comedy
to be honest i've met him in person and in person he is a real dick to be kind. he seems like a really nice guy but in person he is just a plain jerk.
"Best way to catch a knuckleball is to pick it up when it stops rolling." That's immortal! 😂😂
I just left this as a comment over on PitchingNinjas channel
This man is the reason I love baseball and the Cleveland Indians, "just a bit outside!"
you should also love the brewers.....for bob.
Bob Uecker is a born comedian who happened to be good enough to play in the MLB.
Uecker is so deadpan, never cracks a smile. He is born storyteller.
Bob talked about his approach to Carson. His plan was to crack Carson up but not breaking himself. Good job Bob!
Bob Uecker, another reason why I absolutely love the game of baseball. Americana at it's very core.
There'll never be another Bob Uecker that's for sure. Ol Uke is a one of a kind!!!
“I must be in the front row!” ................. Forever Bob! You deserve to be in the front row forever!
I am proud that Mr. Uecker is a Wisconsinite. He represents everything that is great about baseball. We have been so lucky to have him announce the Brewers. I have been listening to him since the 70s. Unbelievably funny...his stories are hilarious. Thank you Ueck.
You should be proud
I'm a diehard Cards fan of 60 years so I remember 64. He wasn't the greatest player but he was a great American. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Is . Is, man
An absolute brilliant comedian- baseball provide his self deprecating material. Genius. 😀👍
He had the natural ability, acting skills and timing of most great professional comedians.
I watched him my whole life watched him live many nights on Johnny Carson those beer commercials were the best this tears for you Bob uecker you are the best
Yeah, especially the one where the people locked the front door to the bar as he was walking up.
Bob is a national treasure of humor. He is so sharp and quick.
I'm replaying the 1966 season with APBA Baseball. In one of my games, Bob hit a walkoff HR for the Phillies against Bob Gibson and the Cardinals. I fell out of my chair laughing with glee as my dice hit the floor 😅😅😅😅

Catcher in the Wry, wasn’t it?
My brother (RIP) and I spent many summers in Wisconsin listening to Bob. His stories are amazing. Respect!🙏🏽
Few past times more enjoyable than a Summer afternoon, grilling and sipping a cold brew while listening to the ball game with family and friends.
Major League Baseball was very fortunate to have a guy like bob uecker
He is the best when there is rain delay or the game is not going well , he starts his story telling and it PRICELESS !!!
Bob is a treasure and reminds us all, along with "the National Pastime" of a time when life was less frantic.
This guy is a Wisconsin treasure he's funny as hell! We love him in Wisconsin!
I could listen to him all day. Him, Art Donovan, Rodney Dangerfield
Whenever, I heard that Bob Uecker was going to be on Carson's show I stayed up to watch it. It was "clean" humor, no worries about bad language or anything like that if was just plain fun.
Beyond all the jokes , Bob Uecker is a World series champion with the Cardinals !

Bob's the greatest straight man and storyteller ever! God Damn I love this guy!
Is it necessary to take our Lord’s name in vain?
Bob is comedy at it's best,he had a way to get you with the stories he would talk about like nothing,, Brilliant!!
Good to see the late Gary Carter laughing he had a great sense of humor and Bob yer the best!
Looks like kirby Puckett was there as well.
I’d forgotten how funny that guy is. Everything delivered with a deadpan straight face. Hilarious!
Thank you Mr Uecker for your humor and cheering us up.

One of my favorite one liners by any comedian.
We in Milwaukee love Bob Uecker. Actually the distance is 175 miles.

I asked for and rec'd Bob Uecker's autograph one fine Spring Training baseball day in Scottsdale, about 1991. Great gentleman. Hilarious!
What a HUGE personality, great person and the funniest thing to come out of baseball EVER!😊
In 'Major League'......"J u s t ...a bit outside"....Still makes me laugh out loud!
God how I love Bob Ueker
The fact that he nursed on a bottle of Jack Daniel's while he called the game was perfect.

He still does home games
Love Bob Uecker, he is funny as hell
Good old Mr. .200 as the boys in the dugout used to call him.
He was one of the funniest guys that Johnny used to have on the show, along with Art Donovan.

He made it as a sportscaster
He was PERFECT in Major League.
Absolutely LOVE BOB!!!
Mr Baseball was one of Johnny’s favorite guest. He had dozens of appearances.
Uecker had over 100 appearances on the Carson show.

Thanks for the post.
Not enough is mentioned about Uecker's appearances on Johnny Carson.
It was catching his appearances with Johnny that inspired the tribute 👍
Bob Costas: "Uek, you've got a World Series ring, right?" Uecker: "That's right, Bob. And three more payments and that baby's mine."

I specifically listen to brewers broadcasts on satellite radio to hear Bob
he only does home games and not consistently. it's at his choice if he wants to call some innings.
Well done. Thank you.

He could have been a standup comic. That deadpan delivery...
