My 3yo boy has never been interested in fish but he's obsessed with this video, I'm watching it for the 4th time in a row now. He calls you the "Hello guy" 😂
Right.... thats it.... time to get a rod license and dig out my tackle and wipe off the dust. You've just brought back memories of my river fishing days some 15 years ago lol. Thank you for your videos 👍
Man I've been binging your videos something fierce. Can't wait till the lockdown here is over. I'm dying to get out fishing. You're videos have been keeping me sane!
Oh we can fish during lockdown. We're just not allowed to travel 5km from our house unless it's absolutely essential like for shopping and doctor appointments. I've no rivers, or canals in my 5km unfortunately. And if I get caught outside the 5km I get fined €2000
Nice 👌 so many people skip this type of angling but you can learn so much .As youngsters this is how we started no carp puddles to hammer out 100lb bags just good sport on local cut 👍 Happy days .Nice video Chris
Fish over depth anchoring the bottom keep the bait static you will pick up the bigger fish.If you use dead maggots on the hook they wont wriggle through the silt. Great video.
Great video. Canals provide great fishing in my opinion. My net gets attacked by pike virtually every trip. Great laugh ! Erewash and Beeston Canals are my favourites.
I appreciate your Outlook on commercial fisheries. My brother and I started fishing last year and caught plenty on the river but only small bits. Decided to have a go at a local fishery. It was easy to catch 5lb carp (big for us!) and it almost felt like cheating. Also the fish had horribly disfigured mouths from repeated catches. I had fun putting a bend in my rod, sure, but not a rewarding experience by any measure. So much more satisfying to catch a decent wild fish, even if it is less guaranteed.
probably best if you try both - you can question yourself sometimes spending all day on a freezing cold canal for a few silvers - but you're right that it's more "pure" fishing. Many young people nowadays expect immediate gratification which is something older anglers never had as we only had rivers & a few farm ponds - but on the plus side, commercials have helped to save angling.
@@SteeeveO I've never been on a fishery. I've been brought up on the canals and just recently branched out to brown and rainbow trout fishing. I'm part of that generation youre on about and can agree. If they don't catch in an hour they're bored and wanto go home. Plus they always expect it to be monster fish you're supposed to catch aswell.
@@garveybhoy1105 I think it's the internet that's made all of us - young & old - expect immediate gratification. As an example, we used to get one free paper a week with the property guide, or I had to trudge around the estate agents offices - now with a few clicks on Rightmove every property within my parameters is fed to me. It's probably a bad example, but we don't have patience any more & that is a requirement of being a more traditional angler. Still, I guess whilst we wait for a bite we can always watch youtube on our phones to improve our tactics. Not if you're fly fishing at the same time though.......
That was a suprise Chris! Scratching bits out of your local canal match style on a pole!😀 I know all about this technique, all too well I'm afraid. Lol. Also, don't neglect the really close line off the near shelf where the canal shallows up. Bonus fish can be found right under just a metre of pole under the tip. I'd like to see you trying this method in May when the weather is hopefully warmer and chasing a few canal Tench on the pole. Get the heavy elastic on though.😉 I think that would make a great vid too and a bag of beautiful Tench from a canal at the end of a session is always a terrific sight. Tight Lines mate!☺🎣
Wish I could, I have to hide to enjoy fishing here at the moment, unless things change, quiet lakes are nice though but wish I can find easier hidden pieces of rivers where I can enjoy fishing without the worry of arrest and fines. Great video, miss the UK loads because of the freedom to enjoy fishing like this
After a terrible fish-less winter piking/perching on the L&L canal and Aire, i resorted to a whip and fine rig on the canal just to catch something....anything.... and found I really enjoyed it. Seeing how many smaller fish you can get in a session is a different scene but still fun, and it taught me something about lure angling. In places that i thought were deserted, where i couldn't get a take on the smallest micro lure, the fish are still there.
Brilliant video! I haven’t fished for years and your tip about shots on the line were great! I’d love to see you fish a really hard commercial fishery to see what tips you’d come up with 😊
Great video again Chris, beautiful Perch and little silvers . The sign behind you on the bridge , does it say Fishing or no Fishing? Have a great Easter say hi to the Bruvver .all the best from Downunder 👍
Great videos! I'd like to see you touch a little more on the kit your using as I'm normally a pole fisherman but your videos have inspired me to try more Predator style fishing. Keep up the great work! 👍🏻🎣
Nice to see a different approach today Chris. Though pole dising is like Crap, er sorry, Carp fishing, and leaves me a bit cold. Glad you had fun though.
Great to see a pole video, couple of pointers: - a seatbox of any form definitely required so you can get your thigh tops parallel and holding the pole a lot easier. - use a rod holdall or something to ship your pole back onto. - a little pole cup and a catapult would help no end to feed accurately. - you could put an extra no 10 on that float and see more bites for sure. - as mentioned elsewhere, you could have caught very quickly just on a top kit at your feet if it was that solid. - the bigger roach and perch will probably either be tight to the far bank, or at the bottom of the shelves, always have a plumb about
you know, in 2005, I was backpacking/fishing Ufa, Russia and since I had never been to Russia, I did not know what to expect. I am from CA. and had never seen poles like this and seeing people use them made me get a taxi to go see some tackle shops. I had never seen stuff like they stocked but on the other hand, I had a Sage, fly rod and Able reel they were drooling after. :-) funny how tackle developed so different in other countries!
How about a video to go through the basics of what you need, to have a first go at lure fishing for jack pike. I've been fishing for years but never had a go moving around fishing for jack pike. Wouldn't mind a go as the moving around, trying different swims appeals. Not sure what extra equipment I would need. I have a small pair of grippers for helping to get the hook out of silver fish, not sure if they would be ok for pike. I went to a river in the midlands last week and saw a few jack pike swimming along near the bank.
Hi Chris love your videos, definitely one of the best on RUclips, fair play to you. Would you be willing to do a sea fishing session for bass? Lure fishing, could do with some tips from a pro 😉🤙🎣🎣
I genuinely think I've the same one in the shed haha blue and silver 8 metre one. No idea where it came from, I've never used it. Never even fished freshwater to justify getting the thing
Any tips for a new fisher I can catch tons of roach bream Dace but when ever I see a perch they just aren’t interested in my bait I’ve used 1-3 maggots, jigs, hooks with eyes but they don’t bite?
Loved this video, great to see a different method than your used too!! Beautiful perch too! What's the Shakespeare pole like? I'm after a cheapish pole and seen this one!?!?
I wish my canal had 100s of fish in it to catch, there are fish in it but over 35 miles long it's very difficult to find them. And english canals seem to be thriving with fish compared to Scotland.
Hard to beat the sight of a float going under. As for suggestions, I'd like to see how you approach a new venue or a venue that you find particularly hard.
As a match angler my self. Please get a cheap pole roller or least put your bag on the floor where your end section will rest after shipping back. I squirmed everytime you went back 😂 noooo dont break that pole
Very nice video. Great crashing predators, fist pump-and-grimace videos seem to be the most popular - but I do enjoy this sort of excursion as much, or more. Some very nice video work, too: at least three camera perspectives, good use of music, and some great B roll. If I may ask, without objection, what sort of cameras are you using? David S. Carolina
There is new lead weight bylaw that says You must not use any form of lead weight attached to a fishing line, other than those of 0.06g (size no. 8) or less, or of more than 28.35g (1 ounce). This does not include lead in a weighted line, swim-feeder or fishing fly or lure. As far as I'm concerned most jigheads or lets say chiburashka are made of lead. Are these banned from now on or is it applicable only to weights atached to the line?
Nice bag of fish - as someone who has match fished canals for several years, I would always advise to start on the inside line - then move across. All too often, people go out to the far shelf / mid channel to begin with and miss what's in front of them. Fished a match at Scrubbs Lane (by Pentonville Prison) where roach were the target on squatt - whistle went, everyone went across at 12m. I stayed inside at 3-4m and out caught everyone. With so much bait hitting that line, fish became dispersed - however, I flicked a few squatt across every so often on the long line just as a back up. By the time everyone fishing long, all feeding the same line had struggled and came inside, I went long - and bagged up with roach. Eventually came 3rd on the day but would have won if a cyclist hadn't hit the back end of my pole before I unshipped at the 3rd section with a 1lb+ roach on the hook. The impact threw the pole to the side and pulled the hook from the fish! Hate cyclists on towpaths....
Yeah i love this kind off fishing , all u can catch is the thing for me . Had a decent mirror on last year couldn,t land it tho it broke my hook . But i saw him that was nice . I caught pike,s off 65cm and carps 50cm brims around 65cm this way so yeah i love too fish with worms and or maggots, its the way too go for me .
Hey mate, I have a video idea since it's cold in England anyways, try fishing a Carolina rig. It's alot of fun even though you have to find that "click" before you know how to perfectly fish it
Went down to my Local canal on Sunday, had 2 peoiple tell me there was nothing in there, had 3 misses and 2 big 10inch carps (I think I've not learned what a fish is yet)
love the FISHING sign on the wall :)
Yeah, the FISHING text moved about on the sign a bit too to the point where it was on the back of his head.
I want to know what the sign actually says.

Thanks m8 for sharing this. I love canal fishing. Keep up the good work m8!!
What I can say, like always very good session ,is good to see you again fishing .
Spot on Chris, good to see a change of tack
All you were missing was a pike to take one of these Roach.

Hello brother. your video is awesome. I also love fishing. Nice to meet you, I'm from Vietnam
You definately need to be on the television. Great commentary.
Bill from the States here. I'm envious of the size the perch species get in Europe. Ours are loads of fun, but half the size.
