Victorian era steampunk is my favorite setting. As for character creation I like the Blades in the Dark class system where you determine your heritage and background to show whove you become so far.
I would love to make a supernatural dieselpunk type game. So classic monsters like werewolves, vampires etc Nazi bad guys with sorcery. Classic 40s/50s robots n mad scientists, crazy gadgets.
As a huge fan of Savage Worlds, I like the character creation system but also the fact you can play the different genres you spoke of. There are Companion books that can broaden the system, but it works pretty well with just the Core.
I've often tried to come up with an original game, but everything I came up with would be bad at one thing. Then if I made something else, it would fix that first problem, but then there'd be a new thing that it was bad at. So I've never come up with one that does everything I want it to do.
