The smoky and woody tones are best 👌 for me. Goes too good along with cigarettes, needless to say.

Ben's accent is so strange. He sounds almost like a Scottish German. He says some words like I would (I'm from Scotland) then gets German by the end of it. Crazy.

I think they have pretty fluid English-speaking accents because they listen to/speak to people with a variety of accents. Horst can even sound Japanese when saying some words while doing videos for Japanese whisky.

I am a novice whisky taster and I have found that tasting along with Horst and/or Ben’s reviews is not only enjoyable, but also extremely informative in helping me to understand what I’m smelling and experiencing on my palate. Thanks, gents!
As for the Talisker 10 y.o. - delicious! Love the pepperyness.

that is one of the most poetic descriptions of a whisky flavor I've ever seen. well said.
I'm sipping Talisker 10 right now and its flavor evoked a picture of a sea battle between the Norse and the Gaels on the Northwestern shore of Scotland lol

The complexity and the exotic flavours are amazing. Also drinking while watching your review made the experience totally unique!

Sadly, although Taliska’s are distilled at the distillery at carbost, the majority of Taliska whisky gets transported to the Diageo warehouse’s further south and inland at blackgrange near Stirling, and just north or Glasgow. So taliska whisky does not mature by the sea, and so it cannot be influenced, shaped, flavoured by the salty air at the distillery. So to say on the Taliska packaging that it is made by the sea, is a little misleading and not quite true or honest. The new make spirit may be made by the sea, but maturation takes place many miles away, down near Glasgow. It would be more honest to say “ distilled by the sea, matured by the city”.

I was concerned that this whisky was super-phenolic, with a heavy, iodine-seaweed taste. It is not anywhere near to that.
Talisker 10 is slightly smoky, with tastes of black pepper, slight salt, peaches, and oranges. Very nice!

  • @jettstark1743
    @jettstark1743 5 лет назад +3

to the smell i get mild bonfire peat smoke, beneath that some sea salt and oak, on the palate its the perfect combination of the sweetness of green fruits and some honey with the power of white pepper on the sides of the tounge, ending with a long and lasting bonfire peat smoke on the upper palate and a warm mouthfeel for minutes

Sweetness is definitely there just like the strong white pepper taste as its character. If u can manage to sip as little as one drop it will taste like honey. My advise is u really do not want to drink it with dry mouth u need to moist your mouth first. Or, u can mix it with a little distilled water first. Do not drink it as mouth full as Ben did. The perfect drinking amount is like let the drink seep directly into your throat and let the taste remain in your mouth.

Tali 10 still is my go-to. I always have HP12, Bowmore 12, Arbeg 10, Talisker 10, Laphroaig QC and Coal Ila 12. This grouping for me is all I need.
I add the Laphroaig 18yo, Lagavulin 16yo, Green Label, Island Green & Talisker Dark Storm for special occasions.
Rare to find in my part of the world is Talisker DE & Talisker 18Yo, I have 200ml mini's (as opposed to the full 750ml). Also very very rare now is the Laph 18Yo which has been discontinued for some absurd reason.
The Laph 18Yo is just simply in its own league though.

Thanks mate. I must also recommend the Ardbeg Uigeadail. Also very nice. I just finished a Tali 10 :-) I found it so nice. I started the chewing/gargling thing that Horst does in his videos - i used to find it weird. I must say, my last bottle of Tali 10 was an elevated experience.
Every now and then I have sweeter whisky's. The Redbreast 21 is just sublime. And just about any Glenmorangies are also good. I can appreciate the range of whisky tasts. Just simply love the smokier and peaty ones.
      Happy drams :-)

At first I thought they were English, but I assume they are German or Austrian. Talisker is an amazing scotch that is almost like an Islay, but it has its own mojo. I love this stuff. I drink a decent amount of Irish (Blackbush, RedBreast when I am flush), not to mention American (Four Roses, Angel Envey or Woodford when I am flush).
I do hold scotch close to my heart, and Talisker is a great one (like Laphroigh, Laga vo Ilan, or any of the Glenmorangie whiskeys finished in sherry or port barrels). As much as I hate port and sherry, I seem to love anything finished in those barrels.
