I always come watch these videos when I get a new bottle, and do the whole ritual along with you to see if I get any of the same smells & tastes. You're a good guide, thank you.
Interesting to hear your assessment that it's in between a typical speyside and an islay. As a fan of the latter, perhaps that's why I enjoy this speyside so much. Thanks for the review.
I went 13 years without the Oban 14, after sampling it in a Highland pub amongst about 10 others. I remember it being the best. And now finally I have a bottle beside me and am just about raise my glass and dive into all those complex flavours!
Love your reviews....I have a small bottle of this one which I'll Review Shortly...I just reviewed the 16 Year Old so it will be interesting to see how difference there is.. Cheers Trevor.
I'm opening my bottle of this tomorrow and can't wait to compare it to my only other bottle of scotch for now, The Glenlivet 15. Think it will be a learning experience, as I am a very amateur scotch drinker. They seem only somewhat different in ways, but quite different in others from reviews I've read and watched.
I wish that fruity-floral vibe you are talking about would be a little less vague and a bit "more on the tongue". Very nice review. Very accurate in every aspect. Thank you so much.
Thank you Horst, nice review, $90 USD, was the bottle I bought myself for Christmas, nice sweetness too. I love Craig gen more too, shows higher than 40% ABV. Tell Ben, loved your Laphroaig Live as well, keep them coming!
Horst, you are as surprisingly “objective” as this elixir is. Thank you for not just opening the bottles, but to enlighten our funny humans mind & tastes, to get out of our not always too funny stick-in prejudices. Listening to you, is more of an agora pip-up, than just letting our souls tasting the « ivresse of the Gods ». Merci Marc
sorry it took me 3 years to reply, but yes, little bay is like a weak Jonnie walker green, It's a nice whisky indeed, but only true dummies (like scotch4dummies) would possibly think little bay is better than the 14. The 14 is a bigger, somewhat drier taste, more aromatic and intense, more full.. more mature, more delicious.
hellow dudes i drink whisky around 3 years ( i used to drink vodka , beer ) i tried this one also glenronah 12 , bunnahabhain 12 may be sherry cask is not for me :S i tried alot but for me best ones are lagavulin 16 and laphroaig .
Hello Horst! I'm a novice Scotch-drinker, and I'm gonna buy my first bottle within some days. I have decided that I'm gonna buy Highland Park 12 or Oban 14, but I can't decide. Which one would you advice me to buy? I said that I was novice, but I've tested some diffrent scotch like Glennfiddich, Aberfeldy, Laphroaig and I like Laphroaig the most, probably because I like some smokiness.
My experience was quite different...maybe it was my mood or the glass, but I found it alcoholic, spicy and intense...a little more harsh than Horst's experience
I just had a glass last night. I got small hints of honey, some spice and smoke but it was fairly overpowered by the alcohol on the nose for me. I unfortunately agree. I would have liked more intensity and depth.
Every area in the country and in fact in the world is different in that the soil can be different; thus, the peat used to smoke the barley can be different. Actually, psychosomatic influences can make the taste different. If one believes what is written on the bottle, the taste will follow.
I work at a liquor store and more than a few times ive had people purchase Oban 14yr for "curing or helping get rid of Leukemia" I just thought you should know, I haven't had any follow up with any one who purchases it but maybe you know what this is all about?
if you would like a luxury stay in oban with the most beautiful views i would most definitely suggest aspen log most Beautiful b and b i have ever saw in my life don’t hesitate if you want to have a stay in oban xx
Oban 14 has been one of my favorites since I first tried it... I was nosing and tasting right along with you, and I concur... It's wonderful.
Thanks to Horst, I never have to taste whisky by myself anymore.
true :-)
Yes if Horst likes it ....you are onto a winner, my list is getting bigger...Slange var from New Zealand.
I always taste whisky with him. Like a good old buddy sitting across the table and telling you about the stuff we are drinking together
Honey, white grapes, rosé wine, light peat, spice and smoke. Fantastic.
I always come watch these videos when I get a new bottle, and do the whole ritual along with you to see if I get any of the same smells & tastes. You're a good guide, thank you.
Very nice. I liked the details of the description and how he relates his enjoyment.
Oban 14 was one of my favorites back in the nineties. It has changed since. Most of the brine and smoked oysters are long gone.
Is Springbank 12 more your style these days?
+cato cato I'm willing to bet you're a huge Ardbeg fan =P
One of my favorites. Your tasting details are spot on.

woooow, I tasted the same whisky with you and I learned so many things about tasting.. WONDERFUL! thanks a lot !!
Very good review. Many Thanks. I bought this bottle and it was delicious. Good review for me.
Hello sir I am very much glad to see my my favorite oban review.. Nice to hear your appreciation....on oban
god bless Horst's mouth
my thoughts exactly lol
Old Horst's videos are ASMR blueprints!
Got it today. Truly like it. Smooth, smooth, smooth!
My home town. Thank you for not saying "o-BAN"! 👍🥃 Didn't know this one stands head and shoulders above the rest!
It took me from surprise! I Got a bottle in you guessed it Oban, while I was traveling to the Isle of Mull and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Love your reviews....I have a small bottle of this one which I'll Review Shortly...I just reviewed the 16 Year Old so it will be interesting to see how difference there is.. Cheers Trevor.
I agree about the 20 classes as well, bought a 3 x 5 cm Compass Box set, could only tell about the Peatmonster

This whiskey is truly a masterpiece!! Thank you for the review!
Wonderful dram....has a little bit of everything!
2:16 Horst is a Legend
Indeed. Lol!!! The problem i am facing now indeed.
This is a very good Whisky! Malt, figs, and a some sweetness!... Honeyed taste! You cannot go wrong with this one in your scotch collection!
I wish that fruity-floral vibe you are talking about would be a little less vague and a bit "more on the tongue". Very nice review. Very accurate in every aspect. Thank you so much.
Totally agree about miniatures, 5cl gives you a first impression, but doesn't let you really learn the whisky.
+ArtMorte I wish they would make boot mickey bottles of fine whisky 375 ml those would be perfect and at half the price of a normal size bottle
Thank you Horst, nice review, $90 USD, was the bottle I bought myself for Christmas, nice sweetness too. I love Craig gen more too, shows higher than 40% ABV. Tell Ben, loved your Laphroaig Live as well, keep them coming!

horst, love ya man
Thoughts on the Oban Little Bay?

I've been to the distillery, beautiful town

Horst I love your glass! Where can I buy it? And I love all of your videos too! Thank you for your efforts and passion!
It’s a Glencairn glass, in particular it’s a copita nosing glass.
I wish you would review the Oban 21 year old. Is it worth the price because it is a classic.
Where do you get the small bottles of whisky?
Hello Horst!
I'm a novice Scotch-drinker, and I'm gonna buy my first bottle within some days.
I have decided that I'm gonna buy Highland Park 12 or Oban 14, but I can't decide. Which one would you advice me to buy?

I fyou like smoke go with the Oban.
Thankk you for advice, I actually made my mind.. I'm buying Highland Park then I'm buying Oban :)
IMO, HP12 is smokier than Oban 14. I'm just having my first glass of Oban 14, and I'm finding no smoke at all, but it's damn good I can say that lol
Highland Park 12 was my first Scotch, and it and the 15 are still some of my favorites! Oban is delicious too though. Currently drinking one. Cheers.
Oban is fantastic
My experience was quite different...maybe it was my mood or the glass, but I found it alcoholic, spicy and intense...a little more harsh than Horst's experience

I taste everything you say but there is a distinct smell (can only be described as varnish) in some whiskeys like Oban. How do you describe that?
Also, there is a strong coconut on the exhale.
I think that's the alcohol note
Will anyone recommend me something like Oban but taste like the sea and salt?
Old Pulteney perhaps?
Talisker 10 maybe?
A TALISKER totally, i had the Talisker Darkstorm just a few a months ago, i guess you are going to like that one
Sir you don't just have a good taste on whiskey, but also on time piece
if you would like a luxury stay in oban with the most beautiful views i would most definitely suggest aspen log most Beautiful b and b i have ever saw in my life don’t hesitate if you want to have a stay in oban xx
Good bye Tequila. Hello to single malt scotch. 😋
Tried Talisker 10 lately and I love the peat/sherry/fruit play. Is this similar ?
Talisker 10 is both more spicy and smoky - but both are wonderful Whiskies :)
Not that similar oban has very light pete fruit & vanilla flavours very smooth well worth the cost.
Lovely dram for the money
Much respect for you Horst....but Oban is my least favourite Scotch.
What dont you like in it?
It's kinda gross when he's gargling it all over his mouth
to you .. not to me.
@Inglejuice If he could get a hot chick to do the slurping, preferably in a bikini, it would be a big plus.
I think it is asmr
87/100
He took more than 1 sip. You know now that he put the stamp of approval. I will try it right now.
