    Your voice is so very calming, you should read stories! I’m a woman in her 20s that grew up sipping dad’s bourbon. Now I’ve developed a taste for single malt scotch and absolutely love it. Highland park 12 was my first love. I think, as you said, the similarities with the bourbon sweetness were familiar to me. It’s a beautiful whiskey. After developing my palate, now I absolutely adore the briny, tarry rope, lovely peat of Ardbeg and other Islays. Skol from Boston MA.

    This is just amazing, and totally unexpected from a 12 year old whisky. The moment you open the bottle and smell it. Oh my god. After you pour it and the aroma put an uncontrollable smile on my face. It's just heavenly. So amazing. I have no idea why I waited so long to try this.

    • @MP-ux1dn
      @MP-ux1dn 7 лет назад +4

      I disagree slightly. The first nose and tasting is a bit too much. Almost a smell of teqila. Becomes milder after 24 hours of the bottle being opened. But I don't like the smell of a freshly opened bottle.
      The only issue with it is that after a few minutes of nosing, it smells too sweet. Almost can't even detect that it's whisky!

      M P I can see what you mean, mate. I have tried lots of malts, blends, bourbons, ryes.....plenty of great drams I have enjoyed. HP 12 I have not been concidering at all. Might be the, IMO, boring presentation and low price.....?
      Then, I saw it with a new look, the viking honour, and it got my attention. Bought it, tried it the same evening. Was very dissapointed. Alcohol with color and a harsh sweetness. Then after a few days it is slightly better.
      Now!!! 3 months on.... I now honestly believe it is a truly great whisky. My oh my what the air has done to this bottle. It is amazing how much I love drinking this now. What great value for money for a 12 YO. Recommended!!! Go buy it, you will, in the end, never regret it.

    Really enjoying your tasting videos. As a rather complete novice to scotch, single malts and the like, I guess I would like to ask how one should approach comparing the 12 yr to the Dark Origins, both of which were recommended to me by my local purveyor to accompany a couple of Japanese whiskys I acquired, as comparison. For instance, in what order would one drink the 12yr vs DO in order to get the best sense of taste characteristics of not only these two HP "expressions", but whisky in general. Thanks for you consideration.
    And thanks for your informative videos.

    One of the many things I like about this one is that it's got some peat/smoke to it, but without that bandaid/iodine/medicinal note that so often comes with it. How do they pull that off, and could anyone suggest others that have peat/smoke without those above mentioned medicinal notes?

    • @yellowjello42
      @yellowjello42 5 лет назад +3

      The Aiki Tone Ranger This reply is a little late, but I might suggest Johnnie Walker Green. It’s a 15 yo blended malt that replaces a bit of HP12’s sweetness with some saltiness. & the smokiness is more “wood fire” than “medicinal.” Hope this helps!
