    Being heavier and older rider. The 30Tk coil fork was a glorified pogo stick. Once I purchased the Recon Solo air: Night and day in handling my 29er on trails. The Judy coil fork on the Marlin 7 reminds me of the 30Tk and would just keep it locked out....

    Has the Recon Gold been discontinued? Its on SRAM's Rockshox web page but I searched online retailers in the whole wide web and could only find Recon Silvers. I really wanted the 32mm stanchions + aluminium/RL. In the end i got the Judy Gold RL. My MTB is a 27.5 with a 100mm travel fork & QR axle and its a pain finding 27.5/100mm/QR air suspension air forks. I'll make sure my next MTB is at least a 120mm/through-axle but i can't go up to 29 because I am not tall.

    Very informative video on decoding forks that come on moderately priced bikes. I'd love to hear your opinion on the new for 2021 Rockshox 35 silver TK. I have ordered a bike with this fork that is arriving next month. I have used the Rockshox Recon RL for a couple years. It was a bit flexy and would bind/freeze up when I was really riding it hard last summer on big rock hits. There is not much info on the internet about budget suspension components like the Judy, Recon or 35 series so thanks!

    • @vivek_v
      @vivek_v 3 года назад

      the 35 is a fine fork. Personally, I have never tried one but I do have a Judy Gold which is basically a 100 mm flexy version of the 35. I have tried Yari's a bit, and I have no doubt that the 35 will be a huge upgrade in stiffness. The cheaper forks with cheaper and weaker alloys need more metal to have enough strength, and according to Young's modulus, that means that the forks will be stiffer.

    • @madcapper6
      @madcapper6 3 года назад +1

      I see it's been about a month since you posted this. Did you buy your fork already? I'm not sure about the differences between the two as far as quality goes but I have noticed that the Reba seems to be always be spec'd on XC bikes and the Bomber almost always on trail bikes. I guess it all boils down to what kind of bike you have and the riding that you do.
      The Bomber also seems to be a little better received as far as user reviews go but I haven't seen a whole lot of reviews on the Reba. One notable thing I did run into though was from another RUclipsr who had a Reba on his Specialized Chisel and when he landed a drop I guess the fork compressed and stayed compressed, didn't come back up, which somehow flattened the tire and pitched him over the bars. But it sounds like it was a defective unit and not a design flaw as he got a replacement and hasn't had any problems with it. But he did say aside from that he really loved the fork. 50mtb is the RUclipsr's name if you wanted to check it out. He talks about it during his review vid on the Chisel.

      I would certainly think so since it has beefier 32mm stanchions compared to the Judy's 30mm. I really wanted the Recon Gold but I couldn't find any online and ended up getting a Judy Gold (my MTB is 14kg+ so i wanted a lighter aluminium fork).

    Which is the better quality fork? Judy Gold RL or Recon Silver TK?

    • @LouisWinthorpe622
      @LouisWinthorpe622 2 года назад +12

      From the video. Judy Gold RL will have 30mm, aluminium, upper stantions and a better quality, low compression adjustable damper. Recon Silver TK will have wider, heavier, 32mm, steel, upper stantions and a cheaper Turn Key (either off / or on) lockout.
      Judy Gold RL is an economical and relatively cheap model intended for lightness, fine tuning adjustability and more suited to cross-country riding or racing, on a budget.
      Recon Silver TK is what you would buy if you wanted high strength (because of the wider, 32mm, steel stantions) and didn't care about fine tuning, specific to the terrain or riding conditions.
      So, if it's a question of 'higher quality': the answer is Judy Gold RL. But if you require something higher strength and sturdier, like if you're a beginner, just a weekend warrior, or you want to hit it harder, but you're not up against the clock (and if you might be doing harder drops or jumping) you'd be better off with Recon Silver TK (stronger, less likely to break them and you lose less money if you wreck them).
      Pay more for Judy Gold RL for weight saving on longer, lighter, flatter, trails. Pay less for Recon Silver TK and get a strong, heavier fork, that's a heavier hitter, suited to riding flat or down hills.
      You don't just buy 'higher quality'. You have to consider what you want them for and what you are going to do.
      If you're not hitting such heavy terrain or big drop offs: save weight and get the 'higher quality', lighter, thinner aluminium stantioned, Judy Gold RL and your bike will be lighter. If you're going to hammer the bike and you're quite fit and strong: pay cheaper for the stronger, but heavier fork. Less money to lose if you happen to break it, as well. But it'll be less likely to break than a Judy Gold RL. A Judy Gold RL won't be a 'higher quality' fork if you're more apt to bend it or break it. It's a lightweight, weight saving, less sturdy, but more refined, lightweight and fine tunable, fork.

      @@GokkunGuru Cool. Thanks. They're sure to be good light forks for normal, not too crazy, long distance riding. My Ragley Marley 2.0 recently came with Recon Silver RL. They're pretty heavy. I just got a warranty repair done because the air seal went bang, in my bedroom, in the middle of the night. Woke me up. Ha. But I'm considering upgrading to a Gold model for weight saving and selling the newly refurbished Recon Silver on eBay. It will probably involve selling at about 150 and buying at 300. Good choice though as long as you're not doing anything that's risking your life. Cheers.
