Plane iron or chisel sharpening is not my favorite activity so I made my life easier by putting everything needed together in one place. It's low mess (lower mess) and easy to clean up so I can get back to woodworking quicker. Using a large block of wood makes it stable and the oven pan is cheap and great for keeping the mess contained! Хобби
Very well done! I look forward to getting my shop built so I can get better organized. I love this idea.
Hey thanks Dillon, it works for me! All in one place, no mess and stick it in the drawer when done.
thanks for sharing Burton wow it turned out really nice!
Yeah it's portable and makes a task that can be a pain easier. Thx
I really love what you did !!
Thanks Greg, glad you love it!
Hi Burton LOL wood I fear wood so this is therapy for me to being understanding wood is not going to harm me, thank you for making this great video the best part holding the sharpening stone older. Nice neat and tightly shop here in the frame is because he takes the time to make a containment sharpening station instead of a messy table and floor and we love it, thank you. Great job. Lance & Patrick.
Thanks Guys!
great job mate.
Thanks Ryan!
I like most of it, I think if you incorporated the pan to fit inside a drawer, with a closure and the ability to mount under a table. All in all a great job. I love to see ole craftsman ideas. Thumbs up 5 stars and a woohoo. 😉
I just put the whole thing in a toolbox drawer when not in use.....
I clicked on this just to see if you were using a soft Nalgene water bottle with a little spout on it that the boxers used to use, very nice...
Cool. Sehr schön gearbeitet. Werde ich wohl so ähnlich nachbauen. Danke dafür.

Vielen Dank Miesegrau!
Some attic
like it, very nice, inspirational
Thanks Paul!
Thank you
Your welcome Tasha
Nice work man - however, those Veritas jigs are so heavy and cumbersome. The side clamping version is better IMHO. A tip FWIW - sharpening on a damp synthetic car chamois soaks up the crud and stops the stones moving around. Just rinse out afterwards.
Hi, Nice job on the storage unit. I particularly like the router set up.
One observation on your stones they look the same as some low cost Chinese stones I bought. They have the same stamping. They cut very well but all seemed to be around the same grit, at a guess 800 grit. One was labelled as 3000 and 8000 another was labelled as 10000 yet all produced a scratch pattern coarser than a Sharpton professional stone of 1000 grit. Any stone above 3000 grit should be starting to produce a polish on the tool, these don't. I like them for removal of a lot of material very fast but not for sharpening and they wear out of flat very fast. Treat yourself to some nice Norton or Shapton stones. I am on my second Norton 4000/8000 grit combo stone and can't fault it. All the best.
Thanks for the info
Sad to read that as my chinese 1000/6000 grid just arrived. LOL
Watching someone work with absolutely no talking involved reminds me of my Dad. . . Why is this a thing? You must be killer at parties
I find it somewhat relaxing.
Not everything has to be talked about or cluttered with words.
Let the man work in peace.
With all of these jigs involving diamond stones, what about cross contination?
What's with the rubber gloves?
What make stones are they and what grit.
Hard worker- I have had a few of these stones for years so I don't know the make. I got the 3000/8000 stone on Amazon for around $20. The grits I have are-180, 240, 600, 1000, 3000, 8000. Look on E-Bay you can find lots of used stones for a good deal.
When did these no dialogue all ear killing tool sound videos become a thing? Looked great though..good job
Thanks for listening
What did you line the inside of the pan with and how did you secure it?
Doug it is toolbox drawer liner; a type of foam about 2mm thick and very pliable/grippy. The tape is two sided acid free Scotch brand. It's normally used for picture framing and scrape booking. In woodworking it's used to apply a template to a piece of material to cut a profile with a flush trim bit. It is somewhat easy to remove and doesn't leave a film. It's not really the best solution for this application, but it's what I had at the time and so far it's held up. A more permanent solution would be contact cement of some sort, just needs to be applied in an even layer so it's not lumpy. Or two sided carpet tape may also work.
Thanks
Good morning you should Not use handgloves can bei kinda danger
Using gloves and long sleeve shirt while using a table saw is like Russian rouiete!!!!!!! Why??????
GLOVES AND POWER TOOLS = DISASTER!!!!!!!
If you're going to make a video with no dialogue how about muting the annoying sound of the saw while you're at it?
Incoherent vid.... no narration , that might have helped
