Thin Lizzy - Romeo and the Lonely Girl (Live w/Scott Intro)

- A rare live recording of "Romeo and the Lonely Girl" from Cleveland, Ohio in 1976. The sound is a little spotty, but the special thing from this track is that Scott Gorham actually talks to the audience and introduces the song! I wonder what inspired that? Enjoy.

Been a Lizzy fan for over 30 years and this is such a great version of what is a very under rated song. Classic!!
very under rated song, indeed! Love it very much! I'd say the demo version found here on youtube is a even better one.
Wow..I never heard it this way,,I love them both,,THIN LIZZY was by far the greatest band in the world,,I got to see them when I was in the 9th grade,,It was The Black Rose tour..I will never forget Scott and Gary,,beating on the kettle drums..You can do anything you want to!! I was only 15,,so my Mom took me..They were actually the warm up band for Journey..we had 10 row center stage,,i will never forget that night..when Journey came on..we stayed for 2 songs..then we left..you cant follow THIN LIZZY..thank you..great song
Wow! Wish I'd got to have seen that tour as Black Rose is my favourite album. I got see them 3 times, first on the Renegade tour and then twice on the Thunder and Lightning tour.
To you and me....He's a renegade. He's a King..but not in this town,,,But he is a King..when He's on His own..He's got a bike..and that's His throne...Hey Mr. Lee Berry..Thank for sayin hello...Werent they just an awesome band..? Man I loved them,,a teen to a young adult. like I grew up with them,,important years in a mans life. have a good day friend.
I saw the 79 Black Rose tour as well, opening for Journey at the Long Beach Arena, Long Beach CA. Killer show from the best band at their pinnacle! Phil was a poet in the same class as Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, but a MUCH better songwriter.
Carlos Sotolongo.that was the show I was at. The Long Beach arena!! really man.! I even remember what they were wearing. Gary moore had red pants and a gold Jacket, Scott was all in white and Phil was in black..Do you remember when He would stop and point like he was pointing at something far away..? and near the very end they started to swing the THIN LIZZY sign back and forth a little..wow man..WE were at the same show..remarkable man..Journey was not a bad band though.but they could not follow THIN LIZZY..we left a little bit after the Journey singer was running around with a spotlight..remember that part..? well hey take care friend..good to hear from a THIN LIZZY brother
Dan Dena Wow, small world. You do have a great memory.I was also 15 that year and went with my cousins. I think I've listened to Phil/Lizzy nearly every day since that time.
I don't think Phil realised how much He was loved.
For certain
David Mcque And how loved and recongnised he would in future days. He’s a folk hero. With all due respect, you don’t see a statue in Grafton Street of Bono.
BUT his mother die for ya!
@@oscarsundbaum2026 a worldwide hero to me, my hero
Maybe he’d be here
This is the best version of this song I've ever heard. Hands down. Nothing compares to Philip and Thin Lizzy. NOTHING.
What a gem....dammit Philip Parris Lynott I miss you!!!!
Great Song from the best Band of all time...
Thin Lizzy are my absolute favourite band, Philo was and is an absolute legend- so much charisma and talent! I just love his voice. And the band collectively is just amazing. Pity I was born in '93, I would have loved to have seen the real deal.
Ya, had a dear friend who has passed away, share this amazing talent. Phil was his ultimate hero, and I'm so glad he shared him with me. Waiting for The movie songs while I'm away to be be released.
What a beautiful version of this song, Phil was always playing with his songs which makes him a pleasure to collect. The Jailbreak and Johnny the Fox albums have such a magic feel...
The final harmony bit harks back to Little Girl In Bloom, but also to Still In Love With You and even has a touch of Hotel California in there. Robbo and Scott. The most amazing harmony twin lead guitar players ever. Backed up by Downey and Lynott and incredibly under-rated rhythm section. Add to that Lynott's soulful writing and singing. What's not to love?
I'm a Liverpool fan, and we drew 2-2 with the mancs. On that night, Lizzy played the Birmingham Odeon. As usual, after the gig, they let the fans filter through the dressing room for autographs (and the pick of the girls!). Phil saw my LFC badge and says to me 'you lucky barstards, we'll beat you in the replay'. I said i bet you a bass guitar you don't' and he signed my program 'to merlin, best wishes Phil Lynott'. A true rock star and how i wish now i could pay him the bet, cos we lost replay!
I've listened to these guys for 30 years, this is lovely. u tube is briliant
phil could have been an R&B superstar. he could have done some country too.coulda woulda shoulda. with lizzy the possibilities are never ending. God bless you Phil wherever you are.
This is obscenely good.
I'm totally blown away...
Yeah I was born in '93 too and basically grew up on Thin Lizzy because my dad played it all the time. He actually got to see them live once, he said they were amazing.
Phil. Such a poet. thank you for posting
Did not know this existed, beautiful, and so different from the original arrangement .Thanks for up loading.
A rare gem, indeed. Thanks for uploading all this great stuff!
Thank You, blacksabfan.
Just a great tune.
Phil had just THE most underrated voice in the world. Just beutifull.
Never judge lovers by good lookin' covers.
One of the best lines ever.
The finest of fine wines
What a beautiful guitar solo on this version
This song was always a favorite of mine .. especially the lead solo .. but I was a little surprised when I heard the tempo was so slow but within a few seconds I was loving it .. .anyone else here notice the "Still in Love With You " section starting at 5:10 ...sounds like they might of did it with this song first ... ANOTHER LIZZY CLASSIC !!!
Great song, great version recorded in a great City
I do have a live version of Angel From the Coast. It's from Birmingham on 3/15/1976. I'll post it Thursday.
Unbelievably good version. You have the best channel on RUclips my friend. Keep up the awesome work ! From a veteran Lizzy freak. 26 live shows of Phil and the Boys ✌✌✌
now thats such a rare treat thank you for this post LONG LIVE LIZZY!!!!!!
An excellent telling of a classic tale. I will be sharing this with friends. Thanks for uploading!
I bought this album on its release..it sounds as fresh today as it did back then.(JAILBREAK).I loved Lizzy, I adored Philo..I even met my wife through our mutual love of Lizzy's music..we have been together 41yrs now...2 kids 6 grandkids..I owe these boys so much..RIP PHILO+GARY♥️♦️♣️♠️🍀🎶🎸
these guys had many faces that most have never seen....i've always loved them....thanx for all these cool posts
Ezerd
lizzy was the best. the studio version of this song hooked me, and this just doubles my love for it. solo.....romeo.....
Legendary stuff - so melodic.
Phil Lynott could be romantic without being schmaltzy, and what a voice.
Saw them with Robbo on the Bad Rep tour and a good few times after that with Gary Moore, Snowy and John Sykes, but not much touches this stuff.
Much kudos to you, blacksabfan
Brilliant thin lizzy 😮
Killer version!
I really like the Jailbreak version...but I love this one! Smooth and soulful...
Thanx man blacksabfan this is a very good version of the original, more emotion
Awesome arrangement
this is smooth..i wish they would have done this sond on one of there live dvds
The best recording ever of one of the best bands on this earth.
Megarare! OMG Im dying over here!
amazin version of this song - wow
Oh this is brilliant!! I just didn't realise there was so much quality early Lizzy floating around!
Thanks a million!
Cheers, CrazySchmidt.
I have this bootleg and its great.
The best version of this beautiful song,
For all his good looks there were scars that he took
And a lesson to be learned
Never judge lovers by a good looking covers
The story might be spurned
He is singing about Gary Moore getting spurred by a broken bottle in a bar over some girl. Never judge lovers by good looking covers, the lover might be spurred.
What a solo!
R:I:P: my beloved romeo
love this version thanks for posting it
The best version ever
yeah. the solo here seems much more passionate. even though I love the original as well.
GOLD. PURE GOLD MAGIC. HEARING IT SLOW. IT WORKS EITHER WAY!!!
very thank
Interesting version!
Lynott sings beautifully on this. It's a really cool version. I love the way Scott takes the solo and Robbo the ad lib bluesy bits then final part with Scott and Robbo taking turns then the whole band coming together on the last harmony guitar bit. Rock solid Downey and Lynott driving it home ... perfect ... Thin Lizzy at their live best.
Damn that’s good. ✌️
Fantastic
This is a great version !!!
I'd pay £100 for the original copy of this. Just the best sound I ever heard
NICE !
Dont get much better than that
Wow
You may very well be right my friend!
I love this version of the song. Phil had one badass voice. RIP. Still prefer thin lizzy’s versions of whiskey in the jar and dancing in the moonlight than any other. the dual guitar riffs they’d dish out. Also live and dangerous is one of my favorite live albums of all time up there with live at filmore (allman brothers and band of gypsies), Judas Priest unleashed in the east, The Who live at Leeds, and a few more I can’t remember off the top of my head. Thin lizzy is quality classic rock.
Also Rosalie is another fantastic cover by these Irish knuckheads
@ParkParks93 Hahaa, same here :P And this is my absolute favourite song, and now.. this is my absolute favourite version.
Sure as hell is rare.
van morrison+jimi hendrix= thin lizzy. you do the math.
why aren't there more bands that use their bass like this?
05:09 oh wowww!!!
This sounds like a cross between 'Romeo and the Lonely Girl' and their earlier 'Little Girl in Bloom '.
I'm also hearing 'Harlem' on the Grand Slam recordings, lovely tune
Yes, a very similar feel .
There's also the final groovie part from "Still in love with you"
Yes, the rhythm is similar at one stage.
Hahaa twins with a brilliant musical taste! :P
^ ^ Oh FFuck they were so good! I never heard this version . They could play anything Rock Funk Soul metal Jazz Celtic folk music ........U sure this is the right speed? Foxy Love fae Scotland VVxx
That's true. It says that in "The Rocker".
♥
@blacksabfan - thought it was "that lover just might burn" - as in the book cover too...
Fuck me!! This version is fookin' great
isn't it "The lover might disperse" instead of the story line..
and i agree, beutiful song.
ouh yeah a slower version
The Studio version on Jailbreak is so much better !!! 🎶
I always thought it was 'the story might be spurned.' Live though, Lynott has said a few different things.
This version could have been on Nightlife. !!!!
@ezrhino100 so true hahaha
Actually, it's both. I'll spare you the details. Keep Lizzy on the box.
ur so young
that solo sounds VERY Mick Ronso-ish - meant to be a compliment!
shit, me and you could be twins :P haha
How the fuck do you dislike this
This version is better
