Worked perfectly for a G75VX, so thanks! I was beginning to think that I'd permanently lost access to the full BIOS settings (to do a BIOS update) as I had no idea what I'd set the password to back in 2012/2013

I was extremely surprised to actually see this work after seeing the animation on generation of the code I was thinking I was going to see "Pay xxx amount for the full code" or something!

What do you do if a date doesn't pop up after you press alt+r?... It just says enter rescue password.

Sadly... It seems like that doesn't work anymore =,( .... Now when you press Alt+r you have access to the BIOS but as an user, there is no more "enter rescue password" .
When you enter BIOS enter the existing password that you previously set and do not enter a new password. This will prompt "clear old password" click yes. And the save and exit. This worked for me.

No, I think I just bricked my computer doing that. A while back I had intentionally set a BiOS password but a couple of days ago I wanted to get rid of that. I was advised in another forum to do what you said, so I did. Now I still get the BiOS PW challenge, but now my old password is invalid, and nothing else works (e.g. hitting return, entering blanks, nothing).
TBT I don't think my computer's really a brick, but I am worried I may have to do a factory reset.
@@ErfanElahi Sometimes you need to just eliminate your BiOS password even if you do know it. I had previously set my computer to demand the BiOS password at boot time, and I wanted to stop that happening. I don't remember exactly why I set it up that way in the first place, but it was part of a larger troubleshooting effort which was eventually resolved.
@@srikarkovela8006It finally worked for me, but FWIW I had just popped and shorted the pins on the CMOS battery. The basic procedure is to open up the computer and disconnect both the main and CMOS batteries. (On the ASUS Q302l this is easy because they are both right there when you take the cover off.) Don't touch metal to anything on or connected to your motherboard, but use a plastic pry tool to gently pry the connections apart. To short the pins on the CMOS battery, just touch both simultaneously with a metal object, remember, AFTER yiu have disconnected it from the motherboard.
Wait a few minutes before reconnecting the two batteries and screwing the cover back on.
It took me a couple of tries for this to work, but finally it did.

Alt R does seem to count as a key stroke. I would say when you see the password screen, type in the password you set and keep pressing the F2 key. It will take you to BIOS screen. You will see the password options there, admin and user. Just click on each enter the existing password and DO NOT enter the new password, it will prompt the window saying "clear old password?" Click yes. And then save and exit. This worked for me.

On my ASUS B53J notebook, when I make ALT-R in the password rectangle, an * appears and when I hit Enter, it says : "invalid password". Do you know how to solve this, please ?

When I press Alt + R, it just types R in the password. Can you help me? I can still boot up into Windows by typing nothing and pressing Enter.

@@salgueirinho i use a tool named cmos3 or something to wipe the bios. Well it helps me get into the bios but in user permission, i can't change anything because admin permission is still locked. Also i can't get into boot menu, so the tool is kinda useless thought.

I just went to the bios to change the user and admin passwords and after I type the current password it asks for a new one and I left it empty.

🎉 thank you. I made ANOTHER mistake trying to undo the first one,lol. I set a new master and user password and by us and it wouldn't let me back in even though they were the same as my admin 🔑. This Got me back in. Thanks. Now if only I could figure out how to get Windows 7 pro backup accidentally coppied and entered the command code 2x. Now all I get is a failed to start cuz of recent hardware change. Status Oxc000000f. You can help me figure out how to get Windows 7 pro 😢 back online Id to prefer to donate to you instead of these recovery disks and such. Windows 10 desktop & right type USB

Hi, Asus must have made some changes in their new bios releases. This is unsolved issue for now. Hopefully soon there will be solution for it.

I am the unfortunate fellow who cannot get alt+R to work. It reains at enter password and when i press the key sequece, the password box fills with repeat charatrr obviously R. I imagine this is a layout error on the keyboard. I cannot go furthdr than powdr on when the password appears. I did clear the old password and left the new password fields blank, save and exit (f10) and that was tbe last operation possible. Asus are being stubbornly unhelpful. In my laptop alt+r is not working. What should i do?
alt-r, alt-R, alt-SHIFT-R, alt-caplock-R all not working, does not give me a BIOS date ugh! It just types an "*" as part of the password entry. Disassembled laptop and cannot locate a CMOS battery to pull/replace

I got a DEAD Laptop ASUS G752VY the Black-SOD at start-up the light at the Touch pad are all lit up? Airplane mode-0n, the battery light-flashing, And the Lock at the end light is on? So i replace the BIOS Battery and that's what came up? "Don't know what to do?" ??? I going to try to flash bios on the Mother Board Never done it before? NEW!

in my asus a541u its not working, dead battery now, and admin password is not working, it shows installed but not working and windows 10 boot is impossible due to default bios setup in uefi secure boot mood, i tried Alt-R but nothing shows as u have done, alas i am lost with only upgrading the physical bios pull out and reprogrammed by some expert now

Hi, guys! I have HP Elitebook 830 g6. The problem - i forgot bios pass. Is it possible to reset the password without interruption into bios microchips? I mean to take out chips from board and making reprogramming of the ones. Thanks.
