- The streets of the ghetto of Downtown Kingston are no stranger to the white robes Brothers of the Missionaries of the Poor. Every day, these men descends into the heart of the ghetto and ministers to societies’ most forgotten, the sick, the mentally and physically disabled, abandoned children and elderly and victims of HIV - AIDS, bringing the light of Christ in the heart of darkness.
Candles in the Dark tells the life and story of Fr. Richard Ho Lung & the Missionaries of the Poor. From a humble beginning, relying on faith alone and solely guided by the Word of God. Fr. Richard Ho Lung embarked on a Mission of Joyful Service to societies’ most forgotten and abandoned that will eventually lead to the founding of the Missionaries of the Poor.
Men and women hungering for a radical change and with a renewed vision in living out the Gospel of Christ, seeking to radiate the light of Christ in an era of great darkness.
I wanna say thank you to all mop brothers and sisters across the globe. I was grew up in one of the mop house Kampala/ Ugandan. I remembered when i came i wasn't spoke or understand English thx GOD now days i do. Now I live in Canada. I can forget anything in this world but I never forget mop in my because with out them helping to educate i don't know if gonna still exists in this world. So thank you and i never stop praying because i learned that from you brothers

When I didn't know of Chinese immigration in Jamaica, I thought it strange in 2006 to see an ethnic Chinese man on TV (Rev Dr Richard) with a Jamaican accent.

I never knew these people where here or that this had happened in Jamaica, my own country until I started doing research on Father Richard Ho Lung which was a topic of research and discussion for my Religious Education Class.
