The Lighthouse is a film shrouded in ambiguity, it cries out for interpretation and discussion. The abstract imagery creates a mystery that the film never answers fully. This video will look at what inspired Robert Eggers when creating the film, going thousands of years into the past, all the way back to Ancient Greece. The stories of Prometheus and Proteus inspired the two characters of The Lighthouse, and this video essay will shed light on that, offering an explanation for the ending of The Lighthouse.

i was shocked when i saw the view and subscriber count, this is honestly the best expiation of the allegories in this film I've seen, many other much longer videos fail to set out what you have done so clearly and briefly, subscribed and i hope you get the recognition you deserve soon!!!

Best film of 2019. I love how one’s interpretation of the film isn’t wrong. Whenever I see the film, I sort of see something different in it each time, though the Greek Mythology is always present as it’s basically impossible to not see. The two main characters are truly amazing and I’m sure I’m in the minority with this, but I think Robert Pattinson gave a better performance between the two. That isn’t a slight against Willem Dafoe, but he defiantly has the showier performance between the two of them. Pattinson really shows his versatility with this film and I think this is his best performance to date. I also think this film should have been up for a slew of awards and I think the film should have won for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Robert Pattinson), Best Supporting Actor (Willem Dafoe), Best Cinematography and Best Editing, while being nominated for Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Sound and Best Sound Editing. That’s just my thoughts on the whole award thing, but I guess since The Lighthouse is a horror film and horror isn’t always acknowledged much at many award shows, it’s not surprising it was barely acknowledge at the major award ceremonies. Great video man, keep up the great work!
