Slasher films dominated the horror genre throughout the 1980s, with stories of masked killers invading the suburbs, and preying on the teenage residents. These films largely follow the same tropes, be it Michael Myers, Freddy Kreuger or Jason Voorhees, there's an inherent familiarity when it comes to Slasher films. This video essay explains these rules, and tracks the history of Slasher films, from their Giallo roots in Italy, to it's postmodernist period marked by the release of Scream in the 90s.

Excellent, I was shocked when the video ended; could have listened to more. Maybe a part two some time.
Agreed. The video would work really well as a 9-minute intro, with another 20+ minutes of more in-depth analysis following.
@Alex Vara de Rey But that's how you have to do RUclips, leave them wanting more, so really is was the perfect length for the forum.
Been watching your channel and have subscribed. Excellent thoughts on a wide variety of subjects. Cheers
absolutely love your content. your analysis on cinema is enchanting
but please tell me the name of the background music please!
It's strange in hindsight to think how opposed most conservative parents were to this kind of thing when it seems as if most slashers were against drinking, doing drugs, and being promiscuous. I guess for some people the fact that they depicted these things gave them enough reason to be opposed to it. Great video.
it’s the same thing today, people mistake the portrayal of something with the endorsement of it.
@@obscure.reference says the guy with a joker pfp lol
@@ihatelife6153 lol ya u like that
This assumes that conservatives are anything more than simply being against change. They don't actually have morals they cling to other than to cling to the old ways of oppression, lies, and brutality.
Great video as always! Love your stuff!
The video is fire, amazing job

👍👍
There were so many horror movies, because producing fear to manipulate is big business.. and it also justified the ramping of the police state we now live in.
very true
Said a man who never truly experienced living in a police state
@@user-sf3pg6fi1jWe're already in a police state. Your words are empty. There are various levels of it, but western society has been in one for at least 20 years.
Look at the police uniforms. the minute they began to look like military (save the camo) it was a police state.
Just because it's not at it's end phase doesn't mean it isn't already here.
Shhh
