Lets find out how Rian Johnson subverted the murder mystery genre, infusing it with Hitchcock inspired thriller elements, to make a modern mystery story with Knives Out. And I'm sure Glass Onion will be no exception.

Archer, The algorithm recommended your video "When you live and breathe cinema" and the work is amazing. Definitely going to give the whole channel a look through over time, please keep it up.

I love these modern Knives Out mysteries, they do get campy and silly at times, but it works well as a genre convention in my opinion

Fantastic video! I love how you weave together clips from the movie. The music also gives this video great pace. Where do you get the audio clips of Johnson?

Hey! Quick question. How do you use scenes from Films and other content without getting muted or copyright issues? If I want to do videos on film I haven't understood how to get through the copyright issue.
Any advice helps! Thank you & love your videos :)

Not trying to be the devils advocate but I was never a huge fan of this "Clever Detective" trope, most of the classics like Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile simply felt dated and tamer in comparison to the other greats of the genre
With this being said the formula set by Rian Johnson just works on me, Knives Out was a delightful surprise and after seeing Onion Glass getting somewhat similar reviews and ratings I was looking forward to it and it didn't disappoint
I didn't understand the complaints that some had about it being weaker in comparison to the previous instalment, the sequel achieved what it wanted to do, make an entertaining and comedic murder mystery, it has it's downfalls but that was present in the previous title too, which is pretty much a given when a film tries to dip it's feet on the pool of meta humour

Can't speak of Knives Out as that has been a while, but
Because Glass Onion wasn't a mystery: it's a parade of conveniences. Masked by somewhat adept meta-stuff and a host of (visual) storytelling trickery to obfuscate its own lack of depth. Think of deliberate slow pacing to feign thoughtfulness, lingering shots of nothingness, snappy dialogue to seem witty, superficial parallels to contemporary events and social issues parading as social commentary, non-linear storytelling to seem way more compelling than it is, etc. Take away single building blocks to its story and it simply ceases to work.
It fools viewers because it is well-acted, has a somewhat distinct visual style - though often horribly pastiche in its copying of the likes of Wes Anderson and Tarantino -, and on the whole it is directed capably enough. Yet that does not a mystery make, except something pretending to be. And that's what it really feels like to me, something horribly pretentious. Something that makes a lot of people who aren't aware how they're being led-on go "ooh!" and "aah!", while at its centre, in the words of Benoit Blanc: "it's just dumb".
It entertained me well enough, in that regard it's an okay film. But let's not laud it for being something greater than that.

Character who literally pukes when telling lie is the most stupid concept I've ever seen, especially when put in such genre movie.
