I think one tip for new players, is to turn off aging. In my first game my sim was an elder way before I accomplished much of anything. Just play with aging off till you get a good handle on managing a sim, then you can turn it back on and play against the clock.

I don't see why people are mad that the game is free.... Its like mostly anything you buy in life the longer you wait the cheaper it gets. Anyone who is mad at least you know not to buy sims 5 if and when it comes out cause it might go free. You might have to wait 8 years but eh it seems you were willing to wait 5 years for the sims 4.
This video was perhaps a little too ambitious, given the range of topics in Sims 4. I tried to focus on explaining mechanics, as working out controls and all the tiny details would be far too long. Even with it being 15 mins, I left out a lot. Didn't touch on relationships or trash cans. I do hope it helps as a sort of cliff's notes to playing the game. Overall I needed to do one like this because the process helps me to learn. I'm glad I did not go anywhere near this idea 6 months ago but at the same time it's cool I felt I could at least make it passable at this point. Thanks everyone. I want to keep trying new things, and the encouragement helps a lot!.
I think you did fine and you can always make a beginner part 2 and 3. As you were talking about your voice. If you need some tips. I suggest the famous voice actor james arnold taylor. Also working on your voice could be great, as I think you have a lovely voice that could probably draw in a lot of people. Especially after sim 5 is released.

I recently got a new MacBook Pro with tons of power and memory and have had fun exploring the possibilities. So when I saw that we could download 4 for free I jumped at the chance. Welcome newcomers! I have over 1,300 hours of game time but I love Carl’s Sim Guides and have been reading the website since at least the sims 3 days! So I watched anyway. What I’m trying to say is THIS is THE most helpful website (Carl’s sims 4 guides) when you have any questions and although the RUclips channel is rather new, it’s still awesome! The only channel that can tell me things I still don’t know (like some sims are randomly left handed!).

Weird, had thought it would have been nice to have a beginner video from Carl's Sims guide hours ago when I linked someone to your website that had recently got S4 and they mostly played the mobile game, so thanks for this. Think it's a pretty simple and nice video for people that's never played a sims game on PC. Just a few tips more tips! - You can filter through tags in CAS with the little button next to the box where it either say feminine/masculine. Sometimes I noticed if you pick a style like rocker or preppy you can randomize and it'll randomize your sim for just that category. -Best to learn the handiness skill soon, especially if your sim can only afford cheap items. They will break OFTEN. Upgrade them and you won't have to worry about it. (but you will need some parts to upgrade them. Buy them online or get them from a junk pile when you repair items.)

This is coming late, but here: the daily task for work is very important. It's not just about raising performance over time. When you go to work with the daily task completed, selecting "work hard" for the Sim will make the performance arrow climb much faster.
I'm been playing since launch and all that you explained comes naturally now, but when you list all that in a detailed guide I realise that it's a lot of things! But new players should not be scared, isn't hard as it may look to be.

I've noticed that sinks are just a waste of time and now throw my plates into the garbage and removed bathroom sink, so they won't spend time washing hands.
There are a lot of things in the Sims that are a waste of time. For younger sims, school is a complete waste of time. And for older sims, conventional careers aren't much better - they do earn you money, but you can earn more in the same time doing other things. And for all sims, getting them to the point where they don't need to sleep anymore is a huge advantage. Sinks actually can be useful for things like brushing teeth, and they give a nice moodlet when they're upgraded. Still not really worth having them in the house if you want to powergame, but these small benefits can be helpful in the early game.

But given that Responsibility mainly helps with conventional careers, and how bad those conventional careers generally are, you could almost make a case for Irresponsible to be the better trait for most sims. Just buy a retail lot, set up your house there, and benefit even more from ignoring the bills on your residential lot. I guess you still want some Responsible sims to get the career unlocks, but if you're going for higher paying methods such as retail, writing, painting or gardening, you may be better off with an Irresponsible sim.

I would recommend taking a job you can work from home (like Freelancer). It speeds up skill building while making money. When having Seasons Gardener is extremely good when starting a new game as Gardening is probably the easiest way to make tons of money and the tasks are extremely easy to achieve. W/o Seasons Gardening is still the best way to make money - it's even easier because you don't need to take seasons into account and can plant everything in the open.

I've been playing Sims since the original, and I still came to watch this. Love the videos and the site's been my go-to for Sims info since it launched.
Aspirations, aspirations, aspirations. Also, the best to start with is Soulmate. It can be finished within 3 in game days and grants over 4000 aspiration points, just the perfect amount for the "Savant" trait which raises your skill faster. Aspirations earn you traits and traits make the game easier. For instance, eventually your sim will no longer need to sleep or eat.
You're doing great Carl! For good or ill, you didn't use the mod to suppress every pack but the base game one, which may have new players wondering why no one is fainting over THEIR violinist LOL But I hope many learn, as i always do from your Guides!

Sofofy hey, I found a workaround. Just go ahead and sign in on Orgin’s website on a mobile device. Confirm the email for the new account and you can do everything from there

I can login on the EA website with my usual account (made in 2010) but for some reason when I try to dowload the game, it asks me to login, then gives me that message. That's why I tried with a fresh account. Either way, it doesn't work, so I don't know what the problem is.

Like I said on my reply to Alex above, I do have an old account I use for EA, it simply isn't letting me login to dowload, even if I'm logged on the EA's website. It's very odd.
Ooof, alright, I got it to work! It was entirely my fault (duh!). A few months ago I deleted my Origin client since I wasn't using it... So now I just downloaded it back, searched for Sims 4 on the search bar there, and got to dowload the game from there. All is good. ^^ I guess the message was because I didn't had the Origin client. I feel kinda embarrassed for not thinking about it sooner. In my defense I thought the game would be a .exe file and the website could've told me I was missing Origin, lmao. But thanks for the help guys! 😘
The only thing I would add is that when you auto-solve hunger, make sure any cowplants on the lot are not hungry or the sim will go after the cake. I legit lost two sims that way before I figured it out.

Yo! You want to know what is completely weird, random, and awesome? I started a new sims 4 sim today and her last name was "Fisher". I don't think I even know any "Fisher"s and this is the first video I watched to get caught up.
My guess is they want to get new people hooked and start buying expansion packs; the people who wait till it was free most likely were never going to pay for the base game so they don't lose any profit doing this.
It’s so weird to see other people play this game completely differently from the way I play. I always start from scratch with the house and always start with more than one sim. I also go for a more self efficient/self sufficient household where they grow and catch their own food. I rarely get sims jobs.

I started playing with the tutorial. So I think that's the reason why I can't change my first Sim's traits. Which is very annoying, I also tried "edit in cas" cheat, but they're locked. I started playing and they gave me a big house with a roommate and I had a lot of money. So I had to move to a starter house and remove money with cheats. I just hope I can change mi Sim' traits
Save your sim in the gallery name him whatever you want , such as my sim .. go back to the game and delete the household, the sim . pick a house under 20 k click on it then you will be prompted to make a sim use the saved sim that you saved , say replace household ( with this sim) Now you can change the 3 traits that were fixed. You know that you can change inspirations at any time. I hope this helps you. Also if nothing else . make a new sim of your choosing w/o the tutorial. I tried playing with the tutorial once and couldn't deal with it. But I have played sims from the very beginning.

I did partake in this free giveaway and tried out The sims 4 for the first time. However The sims 3 is still better in my opinion. Heck not only did they change CAS and the UI, but the controls got an awkward change as well. The controls were changed drastically from TS2 and TS3 that I got bored and fed up with the game quickly :(
I’m currently moving into a new house and my pc is packed away at the moment So If i add the game to my library on origin will I still have it and be able to download it later after may 28?
A tip I have is don't try to have like 6 kids, you will get overwhelmed. If you do have a lot of kids I recommend moving them out when there 18, so they can do there own thing or you can play as them and start a new life. Also I recommend having a sim go to work and have a sim do stuff at home for money. That way you can adviod making sure 2 to 3 sims getting to word on time. Make sure to use your aspiration points, I can not stress this more. If you save up you can get some that will save you in the long run, trust me. I have played since this game was released on Xbox so if anyone has a question just ask me on here.

I play on a long lifespan. Feels more realistic and it gives me time to really get into depth with my sim's story.

Rod H school is helpful if you have the parenthood pack, it helps your child learn responsibility

With the game gone completely free there’s loads of brand new simmers out there.
I’m a moderator for a large Sims4 group on fb… lots of newbies trying to figure out what to do… I posted this for them in group today.
It’s a lot of a newbie and there’s no actual tutorial in game anymore to help.

Cassidy Warner this is true, I have the ui cheats mod so whenever I’m really struggling I can quickly add a thousand simoleons just for bills

Ah Windenburg (Get Together Expansion Pack), the world used in this video is pretty epic. It was a great place to start for my rags to riches teen.

Im a sims 2 player since 2008 and i decided to play sims 4 for the first time. Dang sim# 4 is really a complicated game.
I’m so happy I had bought it on my ps4 for 60$ five months ago! And I’ve been wanting it on my laptop every since because it just has more stuff and it updates faster and it’s just better so I’m so thankful!

I would recommend taking a job you can work from home (like Freelancer). It speeds up skill building while making money. When having Seasons Gardener is extremely good when starting a new game as Gardening is probably the easiest way to make tons of money and the tasks are extremely easy to achieve. W/o Seasons Gardening is still the best way to make money - it's even easier because you don't need to take seasons into account and can plant everything in the open.

Aspirations, aspirations, aspirations. Also, the best to start with is Soulmate. It can be finished within 3 in game days and grants over 4000 aspiration points, just the perfect amount for the "Savant" trait which raises your skill faster.
Aspirations earn you traits and traits make the game easier. For instance, eventually your sim will no longer need to sleep or eat.

You're doing great Carl! For good or ill, you didn't use the mod to suppress every pack but the base game one, which may have new players wondering why no one is fainting over THEIR violinist LOL But I hope many learn, as i always do from your Guides!
For new players use lot traits help the best are homey and penny pixels (if you have city living) plus a trait that can boost your skills for your job

Sofofy hey, I found a workaround. Just go ahead and sign in on Orgin’s website on a mobile device. Confirm the email for the new account and you can do everything from there

@@alexpyles2423 Thanks, I tried that way and get the same message. I can login on the EA website with my usual account (made in 2010) but for some reason when I try to dowload the game, it asks me to login, then gives me that message. That's why I tried with a fresh account. Either way, it doesn't work, so I don't know what the problem is.
@@vickyxlr9935 Your english is fine, don't worry. :) And how would that work, since I'd still have to log-in to download the game? Like I said on my reply to Alex above, I do have an old account I use for EA, it simply isn't letting me login to dowload, even if I'm logged on the EA's website. It's very odd.
Ooof, alright, I got it to work! It was entirely my fault (duh!). A few months ago I deleted my Origin client since I wasn't using it...
So now I just downloaded it back, searched for Sims 4 on the search bar there, and got to dowload the game from there. All is good. ^^
I guess the message was because I didn't had the Origin client. I feel kinda embarrassed for not thinking about it sooner. In my defense I thought the game would be a .exe file and the website could've told me I was missing Origin, lmao.

The only thing I would add is that when you auto-solve hunger, make sure any cowplants on the lot are not hungry or the sim will go after the cake. I legit lost two sims that way before I figured it out.
i have been a fan of the sims for a few years now, and when i got the game a few days ago, i thought i would be lost and confused. turns out i knew everything about the game and how to play it lol
I had all the dlcs before this but had to remove everything from my PC, and now I'm not very used to having 0 dlc but i could cope with it lol
Just picked this up last night on sale for 13.99. Haven’t played a single version of Sims at all ever. Seen a couple of let’s plays of people messing around in it thought I’d like to try it as this is the kinda game I reckon I can get into & lose some hours in quick.

My guess is they want to get new people hooked and start buying expansion packs; the people who wait till it was free most likely were never going to pay for the base game so they don't lose any profit doing this.

It’s so weird to see other people play this game completely differently from the way I play. I always start from scratch with the house and always start with more than one sim. I also go for a more self efficient/self sufficient household where they grow and catch their own food. I rarely get sims jobs.

I started playing with the tutorial. So I think that's the reason why I can't change my first Sim's traits. Which is very annoying, I also tried "edit in cas" cheat, but they're locked. I started playing and they gave me a big house with a roommate and I had a lot of money. So I had to move to a starter house and remove money with cheats. I just hope I can change mi Sim' traits
Save your sim in the gallery name him whatever you want , such as my sim .. go back to the game and delete the household, the sim . pick a house under 20 k click on it then you will be prompted to make a sim use the saved sim that you saved , say replace household ( with this sim) Now you can change the 3 traits that were fixed. You know that you can change inspirations at any time. I hope this helps you. Also if nothing else . make a new sim of your choosing w/o the tutorial. I tried playing with the tutorial once and couldn't deal with it. But I have played sims from the very beginning.
After enabling cheats type in cas.fulleditmode then click on the sim you want to edit in cas

I did partake in this free giveaway and tried out The sims 4 for the first time. However The sims 3 is still better in my opinion. Heck not only did they change CAS and the UI, but the controls got an awkward change as well. The controls were changed drastically from TS2 and TS3 that I got bored and fed up with the game quickly :(

A tip I have is don't try to have like 6 kids, you will get overwhelmed. If you do have a lot of kids I recommend moving them out when there 18, so they can do there own thing or you can play as them and start a new life. Also I recommend having a sim go to work and have a sim do stuff at home for money. That way you can adviod making sure 2 to 3 sims getting to word on time. Make sure to use your aspiration points, I can not stress this more. If you save up you can get some that will save you in the long run, trust me. I have played since this game was released on Xbox so if anyone has a question just ask me on here.
