How do you drain your drain pan? Also, do you have issues with splatter?

I’ve changed oil in many different vehicles. As far as splatter goes, the xc90 isn’t bad. My favorite drain pan is the round tub style with the little pouring beak on the rim. I just pour the old oil back into the 5-quart container the new stuff was in. 😊

@@DriveTimeDIY Did you warm up prior to draining? If so how long did you warm up?

Ideally, if the vehicle has been sitting with the engine off for a while (for example over night) then if you can change the oil without starting it then all (most) of the oil should be sitting in the drain pan.

Where can I get the tool that you mentioned to remove the oil filter?

Gosh Janice, I’ve had that for decades! Can’t remember anymore. Sorry. ☺️

When I tighten by hand it doesn’t seal all the way. It goes just past the o ring. Even with a tool there’s still a slight gap. The plastic cover doesn’t meet the metal. Is that normal? Should I try to tighten it harder?
Or is this Normal? There’s no leaking but it’s just odd that it doesn’t go all the way.

yeah, that doesn't sound right. maybe it's an after-market part? Thanks for commenting. Others might be experiencing this too.

Yep. Very important if you raise the vehicle up substantially. Great point. 👍
