This show changed my life at age 17. Kind of surreal seeing the memories in my head come to life 30 years later on RUclips. Here I sit at age 47 having recently purchased Hardwired......
schnitzjr back in a time where you had to sneak in a video camera. Not like today where practically everyone has a camera.
I'm right with you. 50 years old - was at the Meadowlands in '86. For me - the most memorable concert, even after 100s of others....including 12 more Metallica shows
I can relate was 18 when saw this tour
It was their heaviest show?
@@stan1418 i know that uniondale is their pinnacle , you were also on day on the green?
Around 43:00 you can hear the dude say "I wanna hear the song back to the front!"
Instead they played, Yes I am. Haha
@@LittleJimmyNorton Both songs are named neither of those LMAO They are "Disposable Hero's" and "Am I evil?", respectively! But thanks for the chuckle! :)
@@JimmyBonesBMB I was being a wise ass, the guy yelled play back in the front, which is of course disposable heroes chorus, so instead they played am I evil, I was referring to the yes I am in the chorus like back in the front in the chorus to disposable heroes, because the guy yelling obviously doesn't know the name of the song. Yeah, I know, if I have to explain it it wasn't too funny. Lol... I am very familiar with Metallica, seen Master tour once and Justice 6 times. I also met James and Lars around 83 and played doubles with them on pacman or mrs pacman, I can't remember. I'm old! Lol...
LittleJimmyNorton awesome dude
Disposable Heroes?
in this very time, 1986, Metallica were easily the best band in the world. And you didn't have to be headbanger or metalhead to realize this.
+hoegis FUCK YEA!!AGREED!!LOVE THIS SHIT!!EVERYTHING about it!
Yea you did have to be a headbanger. they had no radio play and were heavier than every body. They were so fuckin awesome the albums were phenomenal but the live performances just brought the sound and energy to another plane. This is what ozzy had to top every night on this tour. They just walked out lit the stage on fire wrecked the place then said have fun follow that mofo. I stole this record lol i was poor.
Megadeaf75 , they were the first "critically acclaimed" (by non metal publications) metal band. Sabbath, Priest and others were hated by critics when they first came out. Metallica actually were loved by music critics from the beginning, which as quite a new thing at the time
i dont agree, because there was a band callled iron maiden
@@lightningalastor6954who tf is Iron Maiden
Classic line up, long hair, ripped jeans and a ton of energy. Loving Cliff's flairs and windmilling. Still a brilliant band but these were awesome years. Cheers for sharing bud, just how I remember them. \m/
Amazing man. 13:20, Hi Cliff! James really did that for every show. I love it. All you who saw them live during the Cliff era, I'm forever jealous. Like Jim root said, seeing them live in 85/86 and standing in front of James and Cliff, it was the closest thing to a religious experience he's ever had. I can see why. Amazing stuff guys.
I was front row for this tour. Amazing concert
@@Queens9999 really? cool
I saw then in NY from club venue to Madison Square Garden. I never saw them after Cliff died except, inadvertently, at monsters of rock, in 88 at Giants stadium. When Cliff died, the band died.
Saw him twice but you didn't really "miss" anything. You're seeing things today that people not born yet will go, "I'm jealous I didn't see that!". I wasn't old enough to see Zeppelin play MSG but I've seen things since that were special too. We're all products of our time. You can be something thankful you DIDN'T see Cliff because in the 20 or so times I've seen them since then, it's just not the same thing. It gets worse every time.
Cliff really was like a glue for this band. I have respect for Jason and Rob but Cliff was the one that kept the other 3 steady in at least a musical sense. Cliff made Metallica what it is today. Those first 3 albums are just Metal gold.
My favorite football player
I can't listen to anything of Metallica after 1986. It's just not Metallica. When Cliff died, Metallica as we knew it died too. 😓🤘
@@michelleinquito6469 I agree with you. I like a few songs from the album after Master but Cliff like Ibsaid was the best thing about the band really.. he kept all the other memebers in line musically it seemed like.
Cliff was a genius fucking amazing musician
I was there! The place was packed! Everyone was wearing Metallica shirts & I'm thinking,"This is the Ozzy concert right?". When Metallica hit the stage I became a beleiver!
Someone was sitting next to Jim Breuer...
What venue was this? Madison SQ Garden?
This show was on Long Island...Nassau Coliseum. I was there.
I was there!! OZZY WAS good but we all came for Metallica
Their best show the most powerful?
I love the clothe style of James in this show.
White Sneakers, Súper Skinny Jeans and a very cool Metallica Damage Inc shirt.
Hefield had a cool style in the 80's
That was basic metalhead wearing style...
Thrash Metal Style! He looks als like Max Cavalera in the End of the 80s
Dave Mustaine once said that they didn't wear old tshirt and torn up sneakers because it was cool but because they couldn't afford better clothes since all their money went into buying top of the line equipment and guitars and they rather have new guitars than new shoes.
Yeah he had the awesome thrasher look
@@GrayWoIf Yet Mustaine had some of the most fire basketball sneakers made in the 80s
Nobody could touch them live in this period.
Truly epic with Cliff!!! They were at their peak by all accounts here. So much talent with Burton. Never to be replaced properly even though I really liked Newsted too
I saw them in Belfast Ireland on 15/09/1986... It was unreal. Last time we would see cliff I have such great memories of that gig

Absolutely. Go back in time with a MODERN tour bus with safety features that would save Mr. Burton's life. We could see where he would have taken Metallica these past 30 years.
Just stand in front of the bus 1 mile from where it would crash. That’s all it would take to stop his death.
Holy cow....You forget how fucking insane Metallica was in their younger years.
Cliff looks like an absolute monster here, James and Kirk are running on all cylinders, Lars is on point. The whole thing is an all out assault on the senses.
Saw them at the Philadelphia Spectrum on this tour; April 20, 1986. (Probably within a day or two of this show.) Floor seats; eight rows from the stage. It was PHENOMENAL.
You were at uniondale?
@@Liviopedata No, I was in Philadelphia. Maybe Uniondale was a day or two before or after Philly...? (Uniondale's in New York, right?)
@@glennhecker4422 yes
@@glennhecker4422 it was their best show?
@@Liviopedata I don't know. Metallica has done many excellent concerts. But there was definitely something special about the Cliff Burton era (first 3 albums). Burton's playing and compositional style was unique.
I wish i would've existed at the time when they were this good
+spacerobot Me too! Me too..
i too
We all do my man.
Luckily for me i was there, this was at what was then the Felt Forum which is now the Theatre at Madison Square Garden. The best part of this Era was not only how good and into they were but the feeling we all had knowing this was a special group and we were a part of it, way b4 They hit it big time
@@Queens9999 they always were “on” when they played NY, some of their best performances
I saw this tour. I was ready to go home after they played. Blew OZZY off the stage.
You were in uniondale?
@@Liviopedata I was!
@@Ratman023 i know it was their craziest show
Holy crap when they went from "am I evil?" To "damage inc." it gave me chills! Raw power. I heard how they were blowing Ozzy away night after night. Now I see why.
whoever said they have 10 shows they haven't converted to digital put down the bong and get it done and fucking on utube for Christ sake. Especially if Cliffs playing, he's a God
This WAS the Metallica line up!
Damn, I miss this Metallica.
you look like a young fan, I saw all varieties of Metallica live including this one. Rob is amazing and its up to you to listen, Jason was a beast plain and simple. To me it is all Metallica, and all the same value. I made a banner with the death magnetic coffin reading THIS METALLICA LIVES and got a double devil horn from James in Boston for it in 2009. keep bangin to Metallica Vit....
rockintothedawn you seem like the worst metalhead i've seen so far. LOL. I bet you don't know any other bands like Exodus, Overkill than metallica and megadeth
Juan Correa I listen to Mozart almost everyday. I don't like or relate to any other classical. Been going to metal hard rock shows since the 70s and like a few metal bands. Most metal is crap. Cookie monster vocals and violent lyrics do nothing for me. Musicianship comes first so yah Holt, Poland stand out in my book. So I don't think you have to join the metal marines and pledge alliance to any thing labeled metal. You lose the bet. I know almost all metal band out there..just don't care to listen.
rockintothedawn apart from the stupid story of your life, i can see the person you are. "Been going to metal hard rock shows since the 70's and like a few metal bands" then "i know almost all bands out there...just don't care to listen". I understand if you were trying to act smart but sorry.... you just don't have the .. umm.. how should i say it... THE CAPACITY to be smart.
okay. .. Lets compare what dedication we have. How many shows have you gone to? Not online boy. I mean in your face. Have you seen Megadeth in 1987 in
Providence, RI
The Living Room
Megadeth, Overkill, Necros
on the wall of the stage in Rhode island??..... no! I did. Did you get hurled off the stage on to the floor head first? no... I did!! Did Mustaine point in your face from a foot away and call you a crazy muther fucker? He did too me.
Did Hetfield give you a pick in your hand from the front row? Did Hetfield say thanks man, nice picture when I handed him a shot I took from a previous show? Did Newstead squeeze your hand like he meant it? like mine? Did you have Lars hand you a stick? Did you pound a fist in Lemmy's Face for 2 hours from the front row? Did you have a 20 minute conversation with George Harrison? I did! So bark up another tree posting boy. I am what you will never be in the metal world so keep on hoping for some special moment I have had several of! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.....hah ha and oh um ha! good luck with your metal!
this video is just priceless. Shows the raw hardcore intensity of each member. Heavy duty headbanging when it meant something, and not just what the hipster doffus' do today. I would not have wanted to be Ozzy going on after this. God damn it, I miss this Metallica as well
ozzy must have been in a blackout when he asked Metallica to open for him. why else would anyone do that? this was during ozzys "glam" period as well. he got blown off the stage at every show. an almost impossible act to follow
Rich Fleming ya, imagine him singing 'shot in the dark' three songs into his set and people would be like... ??? holy sht, can we get that band Metallica back on here???
+Rich Fleming You got that right bro!!I do love "The Ultimate Sin" album tho.
Rich Fleming Yeah. I mean if Ozzy had still had Randy Rhoads it would have been much different though. Shit imagine RR in this version of Metallica instead of Kirk. Nothing against Kirk just would make 83-86 Metallica even more incredible.
This is the tour they should've filmed their movie! Imagine this concert in IMAX!
I'm sure they have enough personal footage to put something together, and could gather more. It would be great if they could document their last tour with Cliff, and for the best album they ever produced...
@@guitarandmore69 They don't have the footage because there isn't any. They were touring with bands that had people roaming through crowds to bust the "tapers". Plus, camera equipment was HUGE then. This was with the permission of someone who worked at the venue no doubt.
@@briansmith2125 I'm talking about people in their crew, friends, and family. There's gotta be something. It's like Randy Rhoads era Ozzy. Nothing out there. Why?!
@@guitarandmore69 I sure would think so as well but I think there was something to the fact that not many owned those big ass cameras that were used back then, That and most of the venue security heard, "no cameras" one time and it became violent gospel to go after everyone with a vengeance who was seen with one. There was always this huge disconnect between the promoter, and the touring band over what was allowed. I know Metallica wasn't allowed to film ANYTHING when touring with Ozzy for example.
Lars gave his camera to friends who would sneak around shows to film who would STILL get tossed out even when they had laminates. Ross Halfin even gets hassled. It's mind numbingly stupid but the record companies were protective of the product back then.
@@briansmith2125 Yeah. That's a shame, I saw them open for Ozzy with Cliff on Master of Puppets. But I don't remember much, for various reasons. Would be nice to have video. But all I can find is audio of that specific show.
THIRTY YEARS AGO! Thanks for uploading.
This is fucking awesome. Thanks for uploading!
I always wanted to see this full show for years because I LOVED the master o puppets from cliff em all...crappy but raw and awesome! thanks
Can't get enough 1986 metallica on top of the world in 2023 metallica is still on top of the world the road dogs from hell

Gold Era
Ahh 1986 in NYC, the wild boys 86 Mets, the LT coke fueled NY GIANTS, what a year!
Exactly friend gd times
This is the true METALLICA .
I'll say the coolest thing for the boys is they got the chance and toured with Ozzy and Cliff got to enjoy and cherish those moments up to his unexpected tragic death!..37 years this September and I'm still in shock of that tragic morning....R.I.P Clifford Lee Burton.
After this tour, I never heard them ever sound this amazing again. 😣
always a pleasure to hear MOP played in a decent tempo
From 85-89 no one reach up to their live performance , 🤘🤘🤘🤘 glad i saw them from day 1 , still se them live to this day; still Great live, but now There are men in the 60s not 20s. But it has been a hell of a ride🤘🤘🤘
seen for the 1st time in 86 at the odeon birmingham england with cliff fuckin brutal then 87 donnington with jason still kicked ass good times.....
how was 86 in birmingham?
They did not take a single breath, fucking Metallica! 🤘🤘
ride the lightning starts at 17:31 not 15:30
Id would have loved to see Cliff play with em...Im reading the book TO LIVE IS TO DIE and he was an amazing bassist and human being. THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS! To see a full show of Cliff, was something i had wished for since i knew of him in 91...
Thank you for sharing *as I bang my head*
Nassau Coliseum. Master Of Puppets from this show is on Cliff 'Em All
Was there too , 11th grade finishing up heading to my senior year .
Happy Anniversary Master of Puppets! R.I.P Cliff!
Jesus!! Kirks solo on damage is ridiculous
THE TOP HETFIELD VOCALS WAS HERE (1986 until early 1992)
que bueno que subieron este concierto esta increible lml
On Cliffs 37th anniversary, this was by mistake it just happened on that day, in NJ at the famous Starland the great Cavelara came through actually from the mouth of Max, and I strongly agree the real SEPULTURA... and they ripped the first album and the ep and then the popular stuff on a montra, but Troops of Doom my favorite
Cliffs bass was out of tune at the start of Creeping Death...you can hear him drop off and switch basses.
kirk kills it too they all did
Thank Ozzy for this one, holy shit
The Master of Puppets is on Cliffem all live at Nassau Long Island
Cliff was actually wearing that white cloth on his right hand in this concert so that he could bang the heck out of his bass
God, this is so powerful in comparison of nowadays
At Nassau coliseum open for Ozzy. Not NYC long island and I was there
God damn, what a setlist!
Not sure the Garden or the Coliseum would have ket them play there. Now the Felt Forum definitely would have...until the Slayer show in '88 that is.
Cliff'em'All dvd.
I stand corrected, it was the Brendan Byrne Arena. April 21st, 1986
That was gd show to.
Wasn't this show at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford New Jersey and not NYC
Nassau Coliseum Right NOT NYC
I think they started to use it in like 1986-1984, I have bootlegs from 1984 with The excstacy of gold as a starter...
1983, actually. Stuff from the Kill em All era.
Loving Cliff's flairs and windmilling.
9:26 marks the beginning of one of THE epic moments in metal...imo \m/
sorry for the negative asinine comments you got. it is your opinion and your preference and you are entitled to it...thumbs up!
This is Long island not NYC
Hi Cliff !
I was there, so amazing
15:11 cliff and lars
What is the exact date of this show? Because the only NYC they played in 1986 was in december , when Cliff allready passed away....
Yes they also Played Jersey on April 21 that year

Cliff was the best! RIP
So many Memories,
I sure miss those bad-ass kids in their prime.
I was at this show! They were opening for Ozzy on the ultimate sin tour when Ozzy was all fat and glammed out wearing a black bedazzled cape and spandex with his hair spayed up to the ceiling.
BTW: it was at Nassau coliseum in long Island NY. WHICH IS NOT NEW YORK CITY!!!
I think you are lucky because from the video i havent seen anything with this power
Wrong Danzig opened the show in NYC this was not the opening spot for Ozzy. Do you think an opening act would get that long of a set or Encore ???
I regret i wasnt born earlier, to see tallica in 86 live
Can I go back in time as you so I can see Cliff Burton?
Wasn't this at L'Amours? Im pretty sure it was, Ive seen them at L'Amours a few times. Anyone remember those days? Fuckin wild times!!!!!!
