    Learning concrete does not need to be boring. My new iBook covers all the different aspects of concrete engineering (including history of concrete, constituents of concrete, properties of fresh and hardened concrete, mix design, durability of concrete structures, sustainability of concrete) in an engaging way using the
    power of iBook. Photographs of real life structures and illustrations are widely used throughout the book to aid learning and also to give context to the materials presented. Interactive quizzes makes the readers engaged and help deep learning.

    Thank you very much for these videos on prestressing. I'm doing a research paper on the topic, and these videos really expanded my knowledge on the subject and actually inspired additional ideas of what to write about. Keep up the good work!

      Hi Izuwan
      Sorry I do not have that video at present. But I am in process of making a whole new set of lecture videos. I hope to include the one you asked for as well. Thanks.

    In prestressed concrete beam, why rebars are provided or added although prestressing tendons are there to strengthen the compressive capacity of concrete beams? What are the real reasons?

    • @RabinTuladhar
      @RabinTuladhar  5 лет назад

      Reinforcing steel bars can be used together with prestressing tendons in concrete structures. Prestressing tendons does serve as tensile steel in the beams, however, if more reinforcement is required normal reinforcing steel can be used as well.

    You do realize you need to do maintenance on prestressed like every decade to 2 decades, the cables in the middle needs to be replaced ?

    • @RabinTuladhar
      @RabinTuladhar  9 лет назад

      Hi Neoro, prestressed concrete structures do need to regular inspection and maintenance if required. Hence, external prestressing has become popular these days in bridge construction as inspection of external prestressing wires are much easier and it is easier to replace them as well.

      Rabin Tuladhar what about partial prestressing ?

    • @mrlazda
      @mrlazda 9 лет назад

      That depends from use method, in pre-tensioned and bonded post-tensioned concrete there is no possibilities of replacing tendons, and it is virtually maintenance free (there was problems with bonded post-tensioned bridges in Europe due to poor workmanship or quality control during construction).
      In unbonded post-tensioned and external post-tensioned concrete there is need for regular maintenance and replacing tendons if it is needed (external post-tensioned concrete have many advantages over other methods and can be retrofitted to existing constructions or used to correct problems from other methods)
