Also he breaks down the song writing process in this video too. I discovered this gem after I uploaded my video! ruclips.net/video/0mjZANuOuek/видео.html
At 6:26 you write "that bass sounds so good". As far as I know they don't have bass in Animals as leaders. The sound you think bass is actually the other guitarist Javier Reyes.
@@Mackathne are you talking about the distorted sounding 8 strings fair enough. But the problem is an 8 string guitar is all about the overtones rather than the fundamentals. That's what the bass guitar is for. That's what I was referring to.
Yesss!!! This is what I've been so keen to see! Hands down one of the most phenomenal drummers of the age. His ghost notes just speak to my soul. There's just something about Animals As Leaders and Matt's drumming, that just leaves you feeling smarter by listening to it 👌🏾🤣
Your knowledge and cohesive analysis, as well as the ease of presentation, is phenomenal dude. Subscribed and will be diving deep into the channel. So glad I stumbled upon this.
4:59 That Always Sunny edit got me good 😂 Such a great video. Love how direct you are in your explanations, I learned a lot from this video that has made me appreciate Matt's drumming even more than I already did.
Animals as Leaders are turly something else, what an incredible track. That was beautiful to watch, lol I got mesmerised. I loved the analysis, and I am always impressed with how you can feel out time signatures that I find truly astonishing. It just feels off kilter to me and I can never place my finger on it lol. Great reaction as always, love the analysis, and I particularly loved the breakdown on what samples are and how he had his kit set up.
im really glad for this! Its comments like this that help reassure me that Im doing the right thing as far as making videos like this. there's always so much more I can talk about but its difficult to find the balance of what to do for the audience.
@@DrumlionMusic hell yeah I always appreciate your analysis so as much as I'm a singular voice in this torrent of weirdness that is RUclips I will be up for it :)
Great reaction video! Well done sir 👏🏼 Love your thorough explanations and input. Definitely helped me notice things I hadn’t previously noticed while watching this play through.
Thanks, awesome reaction and breakdown, very useful too, best one yet. Matt is incredible. That sauce bit had me in stitches. 10k subs around the corner🤘
Love your reaction and commentary. Matt Garstka is one of my favorite drummers. I would to see you do a session on Gavin Harrison as well, Porcupine Tree, Pineapple Thief, King Crimson.
Loved the editing and breakdowns. I died on the "highest compliment from musician" xD Don't be afraid to pause more the video to explain to us, lowly mortals, the magic going on. We're here for that (at least, I am). Instant subscribed :)
i really appreciate this! and ill keep your words in mind. i try to strike a balance with the pausing because ive been told i pause too much, and in the analytics all the video dips are during when i talk. but ill try to keep in mind there are actually people out there like you, that appreciate what i have to say. so thank you so much
There are very few Animals As Leaders songs that allow this much space for Matt to create in... Usually he has to cast his spells just in between or along with tosin and Javier are conjuring since they have an unorthodox rhythm section.
I love Animals as Leaders! They are beyond talented! I don't know much about the band. Backstory n such. Don't worry about the haters. Please break stuff down more if possible. I think most people are here as a pure listener and don't know a lot of the technical stuff. Great break down. Keep it up 🤘
Those look like DW's new top of the line pedals the MCD (Machined Chain Drive). Matt's DW endorsement is relatively new (about a year or so?) as he was a Tama endorser for a long time before that. I kinda like how he added a second bass drum but didn't change the rest of the setup leaving both rack toms above the primary kick. Nice reaction and review....just subbed.
I think you'd love the meinl studio session video of Chronostasis. It's a project by Matt Garstka and guitarist Joshua de la Victoria, and chronostasis is their newest song.
Matt really has way of playing that shows he's been doing pretty much his whole life (to me at least). Guys like that have a way of making the hardest playing seem so much easier than it really is. You can miss a lot when he plays....but shiiiiiiiiiiiit. Like you said...'that's the sauce'!!
As im sure u would agree, their is Not much that needs to be said. In regards to Matt's next level drumming abilities. Matt is my favorite drummer to watch, when it comes to the Progressive Genre just other worldly skill and technique..💀🤘
Please check out the new breakout band Tallah! Their drummer Max Portnoy is son of legendary drummer Mike Portnoy and his is sooo good! The whole band is amazing and bringing back the nu metal sound from the early 00's, but modernizing it with their own twist! Hard to find a good "drum video", but definitely react to some of their tracks if possible! They just released a new sophomore 2022 album of the year, "The Generation of Danger". The songs, "Shaken (Not Stirred)", "Overconfidence", "The Impressionist", "For The Recognition", are good places to start if you can! 😀
I’d like to hear your thoughts on Aron Mellergard in Dirty loops. Might not be your cup of tea but he’s a hell of a drummer. If you check him out I think the song work shit out might do the trick👍. Thanks for the reactions🙏
Bruh, i have no idea what you be talking about drumming wise xD But i do like watching the videos you do.. cant wait for more black and death metal drumming videos from ya.
@@DrumlionMusic I understand bro. To be honest i dont always watch your vids when you post them, more often than not i tend to watch a video from one content creator and then just binge watch a bunch of the videos from said content creator xD
The hats and smaller effects cymbals sound great but I don't like the crashes and china. It could just be the mix, but they sound pretty unpleasant to me.
ok i deep dived into some research on this. Tosin said they are using a guitar to essentially emulate a bass sound by manipulating it in Cubase. Sonically it sounds like a bass but they are using a guitar. so thank you for bringing this to my attention. i definitely needed more explanation on what i was hearing sonically though.
Also he breaks down the song writing process in this video too. I discovered this gem after I uploaded my video! ruclips.net/video/0mjZANuOuek/видео.html
I love his explanation of the ending.....guitarist Javier Reyes telling him he had to end the song with "some of that Matt Garstka shit". LOL
At 6:26 you write "that bass sounds so good". As far as I know they don't have bass in Animals as leaders. The sound you think bass is actually the other guitarist Javier Reyes.
But they record bass in the studio. Other times they use synth and samples bass.
@@terran236 But the part referred to is absolutely not bass, it's the lower register of the guitar as they would play it live
@@Mackathne are you talking about the distorted sounding 8 strings fair enough. But the problem is an 8 string guitar is all about the overtones rather than the fundamentals. That's what the bass guitar is for. That's what I was referring to.

They don't have a bass guitar, they use 2 8-strings.
Check out Elliot Hofman with Car bomb

ASL - Gordian Naught next

There is no bass guitar in Animals as Leaders..
so what is Javier playing?

There is only two 8 string guitars no bass is involved crazily
