Shit commenters is the exact reason Chris Turner has all the disclaimers on his videos and why the solo album is named what it is and why he felt he had to make Thomas Lang sweat his ass off.
Yo Craig, I transcribed the entirety of this playthrough and the floor tom/hi-hat/bass drum part at about 4:50 gave me lots of headaches. Here’s what I found out: The hands play groups of twos and threes (in sixteenth notes at 112,5 bpm) and the feet go between that. Every time he plays a grouping of two, the hit with the hands is followed by two kicks. The notes are evenly spaced, creating sixteenth note triplets. When he plays a grouping of three, the hands are followed by four kicks. Again, the notes are evenly spaced, creating quintuplets - essentially, five quinnies in the space of three sixteenth notes. The crazy thing is, it almost feels like he doesn‘t change subdivisions, but he does. What a wizard…
Ummmmm, isn't he just playing single strokes in unison with his hands and feet? I mean he obviously plays the accents only with his hands, or are you referring some other part? Because at 4:50 it's just the snare and double kick part, not hi-hats and floor toms, so I'm confused. Maybe I'm just not understanding your comment
I read that whole comment and I still don’t know what the fuck is going on. But I’m an idiot who has never taken the time to dive into reading music, learning more about subdivisions, etc.
You sure? Slowing it down, it seems like the snare and bass are playing the same rhythm expect with accents in the snare. And right before that section he's also playing the same rhythm but with floor toms added in instead of constant alternating bass hits
I like how you said according to Matt’s transcripts and someone asked if you’re sure. I’d be like No I’m not sure I’m just telling you what the dude who just played this song has on his website in the transcripts for the song that he wrote.
if Bobby Jarzombek (Spastic Ink, Riot , Fates Warning..) is not in the super elite of drummers then i dont know who is... I DEMAND to react to his ''School'' video... :P
Whoever said that eloy was a terrible drummer does not know what he’s talking about. This dude has been slaying the drums since he was a little kid. Look on RUclips for his drum solo when he was like 14 years old and tell me he was a terrible drummer.
I wish the youtube drum community would give listen to Gergo Borlai. The problem is he isn't just metal, or just jazz. So he doesn't really fit into the prevailing online drum communities. But imho, he's arguably the best alive at the moment.
Dude you should check out El Estepario Siberiano’s cover of Tooth And Claw by Animals As Leaders. Not sure if you’ve heard of him but he’s fucking awesome!!!!
No edit in stuff like this just means it was taken all in one shoot. Just proves he can play it live pretty much. Also triggers are also used for accuracy at speed, not just volume.
@@chad9160 Yes triggers makes the shots more clear at super fast speeds but edit didn't means only to cut and paste parts but and to processing section so the sound result is better!
I started watching your videos and stopped because you "hated" on triggers. But kept coming back lol. I guess I'll keep on. I'm also curious as to why drummers have so many snares. I have been drumming for about 6 years and I still get a good sound out of my $100 snare.
It’s so weird. Yes, he is a FANTASTIC drummer. And yet, I hate him. I don’t know if it’s because I find all his decisions overly pretentious, or if it’s the soullessness of his playing, but I just can’t stand him. It’s probably a me problem.
The soullessness? Commun now. He’s probably THE guy who put soul in is drumming, instead of just doing fucking blast beat and fast doublebass. Go check his solos he does for Vic Firth. It’s absolutely amazing. He doesn’t play only complex fusion metal.
Best drummer? Lol, record an album one week with megadeth, next week Chick Corea and then with members of Korn and then with Sting. Oh, and play music with Zappa that is wayyy crazier than this.
@@reynlord666 hm, maybe from the double bass side he would struggle, but from the musical structure side, I am pretty sure he could hang and I am pretty sure he would play just as crazy stuff as Matt. The first part is not really complicated, standard groups of 2 and 3 ( 2 3 2 2 3 2 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 2 3 or 5 7 7 5 5 7). Matt is crazy too, but you can’t make a statement “he is the best” (I know, is stupid in music anyways to say that, you do it for RUclips) and then say “because no one can play AAL better”. Lars is the best drummer for Metallica, but I would not say he is the best drummer. Or did you mean he is the best drummer for AAL? Anyways, enjoying your videos!
@@rogersat just check out the black page. This here is pretty standard stuff if you dissect it. Definitely difficult but you just need to remember the groupings in 16th and triplets here. Also just to clarify, I am not saying Matt is not an amazing drummer, but I think we need to look at the whole body of work and diversity of the work.
Watching Garstka play drums is like watching physicists talk about space. I don't know what is going on, but I feel smarter watching it.
Exactly this. 🤘
Jeez he really is in a league of his own
Garstkas drumming nowadays is like if you turned your brain upside down and just played like that for fun and were still better than everyone else
I've heard that moongel is the reason the billionaires are in a space race right now.
Shit commenters is the exact reason Chris Turner has all the disclaimers on his videos and why the solo album is named what it is and why he felt he had to make Thomas Lang sweat his ass off.
3:03 most accurate laugh on RUclips. About sums it up how fucking sick this track is. Parrhesia is a masterpiece.

You can't say this guy is the best when he does not have any competitors, he is just above everyone. Insanity at his max level on the drums
Really laughing a lot on this one. Just love the sentiment that can’t really comment on the drumming. It is very true.
Matt is like the Dr Manhattan of drumming. He’s on some other world doing his own shit
The way he snaps that left hand back to the hat is sneaky sneaky!!
Daddy Matt using some LARGE toms!
Very educational, I learned so much
supposed to be funny bro not your homework
2 3 3 2 2 3 is the pattern. It's very fucked up how this can be coherent
came for the reaction, stayed for the moon physics. thanks Proffesor!
I love how the only analysis was on the rug haha. Love you Craig.
still trying to figure out where Matt keeps his second brain because none of this drumming makes sense
'I can tell you that rug.... might be Indian'
The fucking madman does accents on the kick when he’s doing solid 16ths
at 4:48: according to Matt's transcription, he goes back and forth between triplets and pentuplets. So insane.

Garstka is one of the GOATs no doubt but that guy El Estepario Siberiano is giving him a run for his money

Funny you mentioned LeBronze James. Aaron Edgar has a 14x8 bronze SQ2 that he named that. You should check him out one of these days.
