Most Nigerians don’t live like this. You must remember that Makoko is a fishing community. They actually chose to live like this, even though that decision owes partly to poverty. But to say, they live here because they are poor: that’s not entirely true.
Thank you for this interesting but sad lifestyle of hundreds of people in a blessed country called Nigeria. It's a shame that they have to live in such slum despite the vast natural gifts of God in my country. I believe that this is one of your best videos ever! if is not the best one! because of many reasons: most people just don't realize the beauty and the historical importance of this place! but this is really one of the most beautiful and historic places in Lagos! and in Nigeria! yet it is rarely or never shown to the turists! for obvious reasons, but most of those are just prejudices and unjust judgements! because this is a very beautiful place! believe it or not! it is living miracle! and it has been that way for more than two centuries! and when you realize that this has lasted for so long you understand better that this is really a living miracle! and now it can be considered an even more impressive miracle! since for many decades people could live like this more easily because there was less people and plenty of fish and pure water around! but over the years as time has passsed now there is much more population, with much more polution, and obviously less puré water and fish to eat because of that! you can even see this problem in this video with those little kids trying to get at least a little fish to eat! so far away from their homes! therefore it almost made me cry that part of this video when you just give away a little bit of money to those little kids far away in that very polluted place just trying to get some little fish to eat!... you could tell by their surprised faces that no one had ever given them anything for free! in their whole lives! and their little and short lives have been very difficult and hard! as you can easily see here!... So it's very nice to hear one of them even tell you: "God bless you"!... and even dance a little bit in this little temporary blusa of happiness!.... This whole video is very beautiful, but this was the best part!.... but all in all it even gave me a new reason and hope to believe to believe more in miracles!... and to keep on believing more in God!

It's a bit like a Nigerian version of Venice. Thanks for showing everyday life and ordinary people in Nigeria. I'm glad I found your channel, very interesting to see Lagos and other stuff. Thanks and take care! 💜
@@pillina967 I know. Been to Venice 2 times. My point was that it's "a Nigerian version". Sure we all can see that it is a floating slum, nothing more, nothing less. I actually have a plan to visit Venice next spring and also Udine & Trieste. I've got a few Italian friends up there. L'Italia è un paese molto bello, mi piace tantissimo! Buona serata! 🌃
Thank you for showing the other part of Africa. Life is a journey that each person makes his or her own choice till they go back to the ground. Love is the answer to the worlds problems!
I found this a fascinating insight of the ability of humans to adapt and survive in even the most difficult locations. We are truly an amazing species. I saw smiles and kindness. The way they all navigated the water was so smooth. Someone in that area should gather that plastic and recycle it into a sellable product. Plenty there. Great resource.
That was great information. There is a lot of money in the plastic and recyclable items floating around them but are they being educated about it? Who knows but them
My stomach dropped every time I saw a young child perched on the end of a boat or in some improvised floating device. I would imagine teaching kids to swim would be a priority, but if it's at the risk of a staff infection or something, they are probably more likely to teach them to stay out the water than to swim in it. Honestly, it's a tough call.
@@poutinedream5066 Do you think America is okay? Trump people are worse than Henry the Eighth ever was. American rivers are poisoned, thanks to populist kapitalism. These fools don't care a damn! I love hearing the kids yell at you as you pass. This was amazing to watch. So much garbage.... Are there not places to sell plastic inland? Hard life. Great content, thank you for sharing
Hello Ludo Liu, I’m apologize that I missed your show because I had thing to do on road. But I came home then I watched your best show on RUclips. Lol, you rode “Banana 🍌 Boat 🛶” on river near Lagos. You went thru “Slum neighbors” on river. It remind me of Venice, Italy 🇮🇹 I know about slums. Well, I don’t blame people lives in Waterhouse. I finally watched 45 minutes to ride from island to bridges to back to marina. I see that they have a few yachts 🛥 I’ll see you next time. Peace ✌️ and relax this week!!!!
Some of these places are extremely hard to watch too see people live in such horrendous conditions..these videos help me teach my grandchildren what a blessed life they have a clean sanitary environment too live in. The stuff that makes whine and complain is just a spirit of spoiled and entitled..they have everything and so much more then these children will ever have..thank you for lessons my American grandchildren are learning.. I so admire the resilience of the people no matter I've seen they are hustling, the children are singing and playing that speaks volumes about the people they are as beautiful and colorful as the clothing they wear if the world could embrace...❤️✌️🇺🇸
Mean No poverty in Caucasians USA? Nigeria got her independent in 1960, while your Caucasians USA got her independent over 250 years ago. Enjoy your second class citizen
Nice boat in the picture ... hmm, you should have used a boat in the previous video too 🙂. "Floating Slum" is certainly gonna be as interesting to watch.
I watched for a few minutes and I started getting angry and tears flowing from my eyes seeing what these people are going through, especially the children. Take care.
i understand your feelings, but you don t need to be sad... people are not resinated or sad in Makoko... i guess for many it is the the only life they know... but for sure it has to change in a better way.

I can't imagine living in this kind of place.. their lifestyle condition makes me sad but then again seeing them happy despite of their living condition makes me also smile. God pls protect and bless them..
These people are all so beautiful and hard workers and family oriented. They show eachother so much love and support. They care for eachother and everyone sticks together. ❤what a beautiful society. Poor yet ritch in their connection with eachother and the earth. I love them. What an honor it will be to visit them in this place someday. Before I go. I want to have plenty to help to support this beautiful people and their community before I leave. I want to make sure if I go there. That I leave a positive impact. And a possessive memory of me before I go. Anyone who visits these amazing resilient people should do the same for them! Make sure that they themselves are whom benefits from your tourism and visit there. They need support from eachother and from all visitors. Respect this community and do what you can for them if you intend to visit them. Do not exploit them for a RUclips video social media or a show. It's not rite. They are worth more!!!!! And deserve so much more respect. The creator whoever that may be i don't know his or her true name due to all the differences in religions. But I still pray to the creator to watch over these beautiful people. I'm so in awe and respect for them. I have a love for them all I cannot explain. I want to help them. I will come visit someday soon!!! Hopefully for my honeymoon! And it would be an honor to spend my honeymoon there with these people. And help them all that I'm able. I will not i refuse to come to them as a tourist empty handed. I'll come o them as if they are my own people. As in the creators eyes. We are all siblings. We are ALL FAMILIY ❤❤❤
It is far from beautiful, it is the opposite .. you must be stupid. Ludo did a great job, his quest was to show how polluted the floating city is and how government's in 3rd world countries fail the people that have to live in such places. Jan Jan you're a fool.
What an incredible journey to Makoko, the driver was very patient and pleasant to the people.I was aghast that some of the homes have tarps for walls,I wondered how bad weather or storms affect them, I heard a lot of children, wish they knew what it’s like to run around on land. Lots of banana boats, women steering them, some selling foodstuff and merchandise. It’s amazing , the resilience and will power of a people to survive. The youth were out fishing, a young boy didn’t know the value of money. I lift my prayers for these floating villages and it’s people,
Yes, the City is in a deplorable state; everyone can see that. But did you notice how happy they are? They are wearing clothes made of the most beautiful and vibrant colours. On top of it, it"s peaceful and the children are happy. Peace & love to them 🙏🏾🌹
Hello Ludo, thank you for the tour. Strong and beautiful people - so sad that rich Nigeria allows them to live like that. I think if I was along with you I would have given away every penny I had..😊
I think this place is beautiful, just teach the people how to clean their sorrundings getting all the floating trashed 🗑️ And keep it clean... Being poor is not a hindrance to make the sorrundings clean and tidy... Educate them how to make their place a nice to live in. In the future it will attract tourist and make them a living 💖👍🏻🙏😍
It's not about where you live, like in all 1st World nations, there's some real poverty in Canada & in parts of Lagos you'll find great wealth. Granted, no Health Ministry should allow a Makoko to exist. More incompetent government than anything else.
My great grandfather lived over 40 years in a small shack in Iowa that was not much bigger than a walk in closet. Had a hand pump well and an outhouse. He was happy in his life and I loved visiting him. We would fish and hunt.

I love to see videos like this thank you for the detailed video raw and uncut. I only wished that you could have captured the beauty of the people whilst in a non-motorized boat it just adds to the already polluted state my people are in. God Bless you sir and God Bless Africa
Damn is this Nigeria for real wow just look at the plastics and dirts floating around come on Nigeria you have what it takes to make this place paradise on earth... happy surprise watching this at the same time lol so how deep is the water
Its amazing how happy some of the people are with big smiles like the boys selling fish and they're living in such tough conditions that many westerners have no idea even exists. I hope God protects them and convinces the rich people of the world to give money.

The people look contented to me. Survival is the key word. I hear the laughter of children. The children in our land of plenty are probably not as happy without their video games and tv. The problem is the government wants their village destroyed but will not provide them another place to live nor jobs to feed their families. No one looked hungry. Leave them alone.
your documentary deserves a Thumbs up yet, it would be far better if you speak throughout the video. the cinematography is awesome. but its just like a movie with no Hero.

how do you send a package of school essentials to where the schools in Makoko need to reach the ereas to help in the education sector. can you please help me with this. thank you. Mark cosens in the U.K.. Newcastle upon Tyne and wear.
good afternoon, thanks for that message. I am afraid the answer is not easy.... firstly, sending may be very costly, price abroad is more expensive and you need to pay for sending.. the price of the material here is a lot cheaper than in Europe or UK, everything is available. You may be considering founding someone to buy them on ground and deliver them.;;;; have some follow up I have some links and contacts with schools and social centers... youth organizations;.... here in and around Lagos, in some places where the need is really present, i don't have specific contacts in Makoko, even if i know some people work there. I would recommand to do a research to find an association on ground and create a contact with them. I wish i could give a better answer. I really like the project, i did and still do such projects here... Unfortunately i am very busy, and may be off for few weeks soon ... I could maybe help you in your project, but not before this coming September. what size would be the package you were speaking about ? 1kg ?10kg ? 100 kg, how much school essential did you have in mind ? thanks for the message, e can keep in touch here or with email if you wish to create something and have some follow up, i could be of help, but after the summer.

Great resource.
thanks a lot for this comment !
I would be so afraid of my child drowning
Good to see humanity's strength of community. You needed a paddle. Let's all remember to take a paddle when depending on a motor boat, every time.

I’m apologize that I missed your show because I had thing to do on road. But I came home then I watched your best show on RUclips.
Lol, you rode “Banana 🍌 Boat 🛶” on river near Lagos. You went thru “Slum neighbors” on river. It remind me of Venice, Italy 🇮🇹
I know about slums. Well, I don’t blame people lives in Waterhouse.
I finally watched 45 minutes to ride from island to bridges to back to marina. I see that they have a few yachts 🛥
I’ll see you next time. Peace ✌️ and relax this week!!!!
thanks a lot for your continuous support Lawrence, i ll work again monday, and try to cook some nice videos for next weekend hopefully !

So nice of you
These people are all so beautiful and hard workers and family oriented.

You people and ur country is underlying cause of their extreme poverty . U people r super super super rich and they r duper and duper and duper poor
We would fish and hunt.

also depend on the tide
This is an example of not having a Government with a HEART for its people.

how do you send a package of school essentials to where the schools in Makoko need to reach the ereas to help in the education sector. can you please help me with this.
You may be considering founding someone to buy them on ground and deliver
them.;;;; have some follow up
I have some links and contacts with schools and social centers... youth organizations;.... here in and around Lagos, in some places where the need is really present, i don't have specific contacts in Makoko, even if i know some people work there.
