Another good thing the governor of Lagos could do is to round them up, give them a job to clean the area and give them some training to be able to contribute to the society. This will create employment for these youths and less crime instead of just throwing them out. This will be a win win situation for everyone. Evicting them from the dangerous train tracks is good, but they are not going to just disappear. They will move to another place maybe a residential area and that will be a disaster. These kids are still young and some of them could still be saved.
Please stop this PR lies. No one cares for them. The raid them at times, label them criminals and lock them in prisons without trial. Ones who can afford to bribe, pay and get released.

Real immersion in the culture and reality of street life. I could feel the influence of the policeman and was glad you complied and gave him his respect. By virtue of women not being afraid of the young men I can assume they are respectful, which is a good sign. I only wish our youth could be gainfully employed in a positive enterprise. In fact the life under the bridge is kind of organized and peaceful. there could me more fight and disrespect, but they have to stay together, and the older boys understood that it is better in a brotherly atmposhere. for instance, when you saw the fight on the video , it was not technically a fight. the two boys receiving this " lesson" started fighting each other... then this is the way boys end up a fight here, they give both the fighter a good reason to stop and don 't start again.... i don t want to judge, this is just the way it is.... and it works, i mean, you better behave yourself, and don t do any wahala... it is not allowed here. I really don't know why a lot of people like flocking to Lagos, it's too crowded and dangerous! Go to other states, check our Ondo, Port Harcourt, Enugu,Oyo those states are far better to live in than Lagos, I don't ever wish to go to Lagos.
The only reason people are flocking to Lagos is pure and simple, Economy. Jobs, Jobs and jobs and diversity. Those other states you mentioned doesn't have anything close to that. Just like NYC,it's crowded but the whole wide world wants to come and live in it. Jobs, jobs and jobs. You have a chance to survive and make it in NYC than say a place like Kansas. Outside of Lagos and few cities you would be surprised to see low population. The problem with Nigeria is leadership and corruption. Despite that the tradition of having many children is also a contributory factor. Not everybody has many children or willing to have many children as you might want to believe. The frustration of the policeman was less about your helmet and more about his futile daily attempts to enforce law and order among his people who travel optimistically despite the dismal prospect of a better future. The impart of the environment bustling with people seem to have lessened the past frustration of uncooperative attitudes...but some people will lose temper by offending each other in road rage instead of acknowledging giveway by mutual respect. All is well the police officer is geared up in innovative uniform.
I like the way you are close up and then zoom out. This film is very good. I felt depressed. The Oshodi Interchange is a relatively new piece of infrastructure, yet within one year. The dysfunction that characterises Nigeria has spread over it like mould. People setting up their stalls on or close to the railtracks, creating an unnecessary element of danger and delaying the train. Don't people appreciate order, hygiene and efficiency? It makes me think we can build all the elaborate infrastructure structure we want. It will be misused and abused and will become a haven of criminality. All those people sitting or lying down on the tracks and the piles of rubbish left me with the impression that development in Nigeria is superficial. The people either don't know or don't want to know how to run and operate in an orderly, hygienic, efficient manner.
Mr. Liu: 1 personally applaud your efforts & courage to upload this video. Usually, people get killed in any attempt to photograph not to talk about recording in such inhospitable & hostile environment. Street vehicle chaos is alive and well in isolated parts of the USA. I'm in Hannibal, Missouri by the Mississippi River. The houses were built high up in steep hills. I'm in a neighborhood of small one and two bedroom houses that were built in the 1920's. Only four on my street had lots capable of having a driveway. It's not possible to have any sidewalks. This means acutely steep narrow streets, with cars and motorcycles on both sides, and pedestrians walking on the streets. During the shut down, when everyone was at home, it was almost impossible to navigate. Downtown Hannibal is another area that can be difficult to navigate. In Hannibal, residential is to avoid the river floods, by being in the hills. I assume there is a reason for the chaos in areas of Nigeria. It just can't be changed and had to be. Nigerians are in St. Louis, Missouri. They're people of the river now too.

The part of this journey that I thoroughly enjoyed was the ride through the local community and open air markets. Although I don't understand why you were detained. The panoramic aerial views gave me a sense of the enormous scope of activity happening above and below the bridge. The constant traffic flow of cars and trucks, movement of people, the boys clearing the train tracks for oncoming trains and then returning to the train tracks, playing card games and checkers, and railway vendors was fascinating. It was painful and disturbing for me to see boys sleeping on the train tracks, attacking each other and smoking. Questions ran through my mind? How can this be? Where are their parents? What are the citizens of Lagos that have the resources: political, social, economical and financial doing to help these homeless children, young adults and families? It amazed me that most of the people seemed like they didn't notice you were there and didn't mind you filming them. Ludo, you show me the good, the bad and the ugly. Hi bro ! there are so many things to answer here, I'll try not to forget anything. first as usual thanks a lot for that comment. About the boys, yeah I said there will be a doc in march, when i premiered that short video that almost nobody checked. I still want to do it, i finally postponed it... for the good i hope. Yeah, the boys all know i am filming them, they don ' t mind cause we spend many hours together under the bridge, sharing trying to develop some things, some skills,... eventually a better future.... we share some time with some other occasion to shoot, some activities ... then all these moments you just saw are just some off moments in between some activities, before eating.... etc.... that s why it is kind of natural, i am just here like any other dude on the train tracks since few hours... since several days....sharing time and eventually trying to help with my good friend and big Oga Sobayo Abolore. Many of the young boys here are from Lagos states, Ogun states Ibadan, Abeokuta, Oshogbo....and sometimes more far, they have so many different background, some have no family remaining, some have families that cannot feed them, so they had to try their chance and ended up here, some had to escape from difficult family situations...the backgrounds are very different but they all lead to the same conclusion, the struggle here under the bridge. I also love Oshodi, markets colourful, busy, alive and as you mentioned in some cases, very harsh and disturbing...Sobayo was born here, grown here, and we spent a lot of time there together since many years... That s one of my favourite place in lagos . The policeman stopped me, cause i was with a friend of mine a volunteers from jelosimi art center... we were both going under the bridge, then i gave him a lift of few hundred meters but he did not have a helmet. Just before to stop me the policeman was followed buy to guys, trying to beg him for another purpose (you can see it on the video) , then when he saw me and my friend, he just turned up, and start running after the bike asking me to stop ... @@Ludo_Liu In San Antonio we have mentoring programs where we meet our preselected mentees at a predetermined location in a predefined environment which is somewhat effective. But what you are doing is more effective by taking mentoring to the streets so that it is not limited to just a chosen few.
Haha just noted that the intrepid cameraman is not a Nigerian, since the police wouldn't normally speak English to anyone that looks Nigerian. This little fun fact makes this innovative work of movie making all the more courageous since foreign-looking people are targeted by criminals and bribe-seeking cops in Lagos, especially when they are mingling with the populace without the benefit of a police escort. I have walked this path several times. I have made contacts with few on few occasions. The last guy I spoke with, I randomly told him that I've been walking this place for a while that this is my first time seeing him. I spoke as if I know literally everyone of them. But his answers baffled me. "I just moved in, he said." Of course he reached to me for money which I gave him with the intention to see him again and talk with him. Their face ain't that bright but I bet their heart may be for some of them. I came here because of a personal project I'm undertaking. I hope to find something that will help me.

Another good thing the governor of Lagos could do is to round them up, give them a job to clean the area and give them some training to be able to contribute to the society. This will create employment for these youths and less crime instead of just throwing them out. This will be a win win situation for everyone. Evicting them from the dangerous train tracks is good, but they are not going to just disappear. They will move to another place maybe a residential area and that will be a disaster. These kids are still young and some of them could still be saved.

Yes you are right about the girls. In fact the life under the bridge is kind of organized and peaceful. there could me more fight and disrespect, but they have to stay together, and the older boys understood that it is better in a brotherly atmposhere.
for instance, when you saw the fight on the video , it was not technically a fight. the two boys receiving this " lesson" started fighting each other... then this is the way boys end up a fight here, they give both the fighter a good reason to stop and don 't start again.... i don t want to judge, this is just the way it is.... and it works, i mean, you better behave yourself, and don t do any wahala... it is not allowed here.

We tried it after the annulment of June 12 1993 elections but the US & the west feigned interest but installed Chief Shonekan, a known British stooge from UAC/Unilever days. This film is very good. I felt depressed. The Oshodi Interchange is a relatively new piece of infrastructure, yet within one year. The dysfunction that characterises Nigeria has spread over it like mould.
People setting up their stalls on or close to the railtracks, creating an unnecessary element of danger and delaying the train. Don't people appreciate order, hygiene and efficiency? It makes me think we can build all the elaborate infrastructure structure we want. It will be misused and abused and will become a haven of criminality.
All those people sitting or lying down on the tracks and the piles of rubbish left me with the impression that development in Nigeria is superficial.
The people either don't know or don't want to know how to run and operate in an orderly, hygienic, efficient manner.
Nigeria has no immigration control
Mr. Liu: 1 personally applaud your efforts & courage to upload this video. Usually, people get killed in any attempt to photograph not to talk about recording in such inhospitable & hostile environment. Did you have to settle the big boys for the opportunity to get so close & personal. I'm also sure you have developed your modus operandi dealing with the ever-hungry local policemen on our highway.

Street vehicle chaos is alive and well in isolated parts of the USA. I'm in Hannibal, Missouri by the Mississippi River. The houses were built high up in steep hills. I'm in a neighborhood of small one and two bedroom houses that were built in the 1920's. Only four on my street had lots capable of having a driveway. It's not possible to have any sidewalks. This means acutely steep narrow streets, with cars and motorcycles on both sides, and pedestrians walking on the streets. During the shut down, when everyone was at home, it was almost impossible to navigate. Downtown Hannibal is another area that can be difficult to navigate.
In Hannibal, residential is to avoid the river floods, by being in the hills. I assume there is a reason for the chaos in areas of Nigeria. It just can't be changed and had to be.
Nigerians are in St. Louis, Missouri. They're people of the river now too.

I am a subscriber. Your videos are excellent. I have a question. In your videos, you see so many pedestrians, as well as others traveling by bus, cab, or personal motorized vehicle. Generally speaking, where are all of these people traveling to and from? These can't all be people out "shopping", can they?

Lagos the mega village
By the end of century Lagos will be the largest city in the world. By then all the oil will be gone. Lagos will be hell on earth.
I'm praying that the oil drys up quickly, because Nigerians are not benefiting from the oil.
Nigeria is a confused country...the Nigerian government revenue comes from oil and gas but, Oil represents little overall in the national gdp ....that tells u the Oil money is looted by government officials,their families and other thieves ...oil is being a cursed cancer ♋️ for Nigeria 🇳🇬

Everybody wants to live in Lagos, Abuja and other big cities. Most of these people have houses in their villages. Yet they prefer to be here simply because it is Lagos.
life in the village was not easy, or even very dangerous for many of these kids. that s why the came to Lagos, dreaming about a better future...that s true that finally they found a bigger struggle here
I grew up in Lagos...but now I am a bit puzzled..do these men live there(under the bridge) and if so where do they get there food and money from..they don't seem to be doing much of anything.
I'm wondering if your granddad remembers, from old Colonial times, the clean smooth paved roads, with traffic lights and signs, pavements and pedestrian crossings?
What about the grandad (maybe yours maybe mine ) who rapped, enslaved... and what about the actual grand son who is still enslaving in his neocolonial way ?

The part of this journey that I thoroughly enjoyed was the ride through the local community and open air markets. Although I don't understand why you were detained. The panoramic aerial views gave me a sense of the enormous scope of activity happening above and below the bridge. The constant traffic flow of cars and trucks, movement of people, the boys clearing the train tracks for oncoming trains and then returning to the train tracks, playing card games and checkers, and railway vendors was fascinating. It was painful and disturbing for me to see boys sleeping on the train tracks, attacking each other and smoking. Questions ran through my mind? How can this be? Where are their parents? What are the citizens of Lagos that have the resources: political, social, economical and financial doing to help these homeless children, young adults and families? It amazed me that most of the people seemed like they didn't notice you were there and didn't mind you filming them. Ludo, you show me the good, the bad and the ugly. You go where most RUclips vloggers dare to tread. That is why you are my favorite RUclips travel vlogger! Last February you premiered "Share Love through Art: A valentine's day with the street kids of Oshodi - Lagos NIGERIA". In a caption you stated that the full documentary would premiere in March. I was looking forward to watching it, but I did not receive notification. Is it still available?
Hi bro ! there are so many things to answer here, I'll try not to forget anything. first as usual thanks a lot for that comment.
About the boys, yeah I said there will be a doc in march, when i premiered that short video that almost nobody checked. I still want to do it, i finally postponed it... for the good i hope. Yeah, the boys all know i am filming them, they don ' t mind cause we spend many hours together under the bridge, sharing trying to develop some things, some skills,... eventually a better future.... we share some time with some other occasion to shoot, some activities ... then all these moments you just saw are just some off moments in between some activities, before eating.... etc.... that s why it is kind of natural, i am just here like any other dude on the train tracks since few hours... since several days....sharing time and eventually trying to help with my good friend and big Oga Sobayo Abolore.
Many of the young boys here are from Lagos states, Ogun states Ibadan, Abeokuta, Oshogbo....and sometimes more far, they have so many different background, some have no family remaining, some have families that cannot feed them, so they had to try their chance and ended up here, some had to escape from difficult family situations...the backgrounds are very different but they all lead to the same conclusion, the struggle here under the bridge.
I also love Oshodi, markets colourful, busy, alive and as you mentioned in some cases, very harsh and disturbing...Sobayo was born here, grown here, and we spent a lot of time there together since many years... That s one of my favourite place in lagos . The policeman stopped me, cause i was with a friend of mine a volunteers from jelosimi art center... we were both going under the bridge, then i gave him a lift of few hundred meters but he did not have a helmet. Just before to stop me the policeman was followed buy to guys, trying to beg him for another purpose (you can see it on the video) , then when he saw me and my friend, he just turned up, and start running after the bike asking me to stop ...

@@Ludo_Liu In San Antonio we have mentoring programs where we meet our preselected mentees at a predetermined location in a predefined environment which is somewhat effective. But what you are doing is more effective by taking mentoring to the streets so that it is not limited to just a chosen few.
Haha just noted that the intrepid cameraman is not a Nigerian, since the police wouldn't normally speak English to anyone that looks Nigerian. This little fun fact makes this innovative work of movie making all the more courageous since foreign-looking people are targeted by criminals and bribe-seeking cops in Lagos, especially when they are mingling with the populace without the benefit of a police escort. My hat is off to you sir. You have balls of steel. I have subscribed to this channel because I love the truth, no matter how ugly it happens to be.

The rail tracks should have been fenced off to prevent people trading on them. Why the government has not done this is beyond me.

He stops him for not having extra helmet for his passenger at the back of the seat. The law enforcer seems to be a bit of a grouch - that is because of the tough nature of the city. It makes people to be tough and rude.

I have walked this path several times. I have made contacts with few on few occasions. The last guy I spoke with, I randomly told him that I've been walking this place for a while that this is my first time seeing him. I spoke as if I know literally everyone of them. But his answers baffled me. "I just moved in, he said." Of course he reached to me for money which I gave him with the intention to see him again and talk with him. Their face ain't that bright but I bet their heart may be for some of them.
I came here because of a personal project I'm undertaking. I hope to find something that will help me.
i am still going their, it has change a lot, many of the boys here have been replaced by other, but the problem remains the same.

What I noticed that They aren't Violent like here in America everyone gets along and you don't see Road Rage and just street fights I know it's crime there but that's mostly to survive

Honestly Mr ludo, you must have a very fat insurance cover to do this.. Is very educational and informative I must say, Sad however, to see young able Nigerians wasting away like this in a country where common snakes can easily feed on billion of tender legal currency. thank you very much for that comment. I did not end up here without knowing the place. I wouldn' t have been able to shoot, or i would end up in a difficult situation. I have the trust and friendship of these boys and young adults whom i spend a lot of time with. Yes it is indeed very sad to see some life wasted from a so early age. Just hopping to see as more as possible of this kids outside of here as soon as possible

That is true, most especially, in Lagos. People keep streaming into the city for greener pasture without getting the greener pasture and end up in squalor conditions.
