Randy you are a gem of a man and remind me of my dear departed Dad. God love you. It’s a Double Pitzen knot, and I respect that you continue to call it what the guy that showed it to you called it. Well done sir. Personally I prefer the Trilene knot for a number of reasons. A large percentage of fishing is confidence, so every angler should find the knot(s) that they have confidence in. Live your best life my friends!

I started using this knot 3-4 years ago from watching Deny Brauer tie it...this knot is amazingly strong & easy to tie! I have a hard hookset and kept breaking my palomar knot, so this saved me alot of headaches! Thanks!

It’s double Pitzen knot. Absolutely love it. Never failed for years for me
Double Uni knot is similar to this and is an improvement of this , because it doesn’t require the hook to be weighted to tie it.

Yes, that is a very good knot for Florocarbon since it doesn't cut into itself. I tie a similar knot, the San Diego Jam, which is a modified Uniknot... use a Palomar knot for everything else.

Thanks fot the great video! I've been using braid only for years and the palamore has been my goto knot. This year I decided to try using floro on a one of my rods as well as using it as a leader line. I had watched several videos on how to tie florocarbon and your video made it easy for me to understand and successfully tie the knot. One reel spooled up with the FC as well as making a couple of quick change lures/hooks, on premade leaders. Keep up the great videos!

Every knot tied right will work. I've done testing in a lab with tensile and friction testing. The palomar is as strong as any out there. It's all about how you tie it and if the loops lay flat along the main line and the eye. If it's tied correctly....it will not fail any more than any other knot.

I've had great success with 8 pound flouro, 12lb, 20lb but in the past week I've had my 10lb seaguar blue label leader break at the hookset 3 times. Until this recent run it had literally never happened to me. It's tied to 10lb braid with a 7 ft medium moderate. So I've some to the conclusion it has to be the knot. Perfect timing Randy I'm gonna give this thing a try.

I started tying this knot with all of my flouro last year after breaking off numerous times on hook sets as well...haven't broke on a hook set since. Great knot, and easy. It does use a bit more line with the three tag ends which makes me go through more leader though but I guess that's the price to pay for landing more fish.

Been tying the same knot for over a decade now(don’t know the real name). Just saw a really detailed video a guy did comparing it to others, very well done and confirmed my feelings. Best of all it’s super easy, I believe it’s the same knot you showed. My point being that anything over 3 wraps doesn’t help, and actually makes it’s too big. I also pull on both sides of the tag end and re-pull on the main line and tag before I cut. Works great on co poly, but not for braid.

This right here is the difference between teaching something, and putting on a clinic of your abilities (which is an all-out, f@#king epidemic on RUclips). How many cameras you have, and their angle is pointless if the person doesn't know how to relay information. Some of these guys are genuine guys who just don't have a clue as to how their video is coming across, because they have an over-head camera setup. And, that's all you need to call yourself a "teacher" by today's standards. Randy did this so well, I didn't even need the sound on my PC. Thanks for sharing this Randy!

That is the exact same knot I tie on my lures. Strong is an understatement. I was fishing from the bank and got my Chatterbait hung up. I had 15lb fluorocarbon spooled on my reel. I couldn’t get my Chatterbait free so I decided to tighten the drag and start walking backwards. Finally, “something” came loose and it wasn’t my Chatterbait and the line didn’t break either. It was the wire clip that I tied this knot to. It got bent straight and the knot held fast!! I’m loving this knot. Gotta order another Chatterbait to replace my lost one though. 😁

I saw you show this knot a long time ago, year n half or so maybe longer? I've used nothing but this on all my floro sense & it's worked great. I've had no need to learn any other knots for floro because it works so well. Use it on everything from my big swimbaits to finness & light line. I can tie it without
looking in a few seconds. Quick & super strong. If Aaron Martens called it a double unit then that's more than good enough for me!

Weed Collector Knot. I don’t tie this knot as the orientation of each of the 3 tag ends causes these tags to collect weeds during the lure retrieve. Knot strength doesn’t matter if there are no fish biting a lure covered in weeds. I do prefer a knot where the line is doubled through the hook eye but which has a single tag pointing away from the rod tip and toward the lure. Matt Stefan describes this preferred knot in one of his videos. Thanks, Randy.

You are right, this is not a double uni, double uni is to connect leader to main line. This is a double pitzen knot. I do use this sometimes. However, the Palomar knot is good for fluro if you make sure your line do not cross through the eyelet and the loop that goes over the bait/hook is flipped up. Once you do this, the line will not cut into itself. Great video though.

I moved up to 14# flouro thinking it was the 6# being too light or the copolymer being not as good but it's possible it was the knot all though i think it's possible it was a turtle since the knot was pretty clean and didn't have a curly tail.

I have been using the palamor for 35 years. It's a great knot but it has one issue. If you get in a hurry and the loop stays on top when you cinch it down it will cut your line. Heavier flouro is prone to causing this. I have never broke off in the knot when tied correctly with any line.

Randy , you are wrapping toward the bait and Aaron wrapped away from the bait. "See Aaron's double uni video". Whether it makes a difference, I don't know. I believe and call this knot I learned from another of Aaron's videos is the "doubleD" uni knot. the d on the end just got dropped somehow. That s boring and doesn't matter but it's worth your time to learn it. I love the knot and miss Aaron.

What do you use for a drop shot?

Randy - I have seen this knot demonstrated by Shaw Grigsby and others that only show 3 wraps before going up thru the upper loop. Do you think it’s necessary to make 4 or 5 wraps? It makes the knot bigger

I used to always tie the Palomar knot until I got in a bad car accident which left me with a paralyzed left arm. With 2 arms I considered the Palomar knot to be stuck an easy and quick knot to tie. Now with one arm I pretty it's so hard for me to tie, especially with fluorocarbon it's next to impossible 😔

Do you ever use a loop knot. I have success with it when using Ned rigs and top water

Also Zona’s “shark knot” which is a little more difficult but has the tag ends pointing the opposite direction which is good in grass.

It works great for mono too, I mostly use straight floro or mono. it's the knot I use 99.99% of time, except on drop shots.

I use the Palomar knot most times and, the only time it has broken off is when I get caught on structure and I break the line off. I've never broken off a hook in a fish's mouth and gotten back just the line.

Cool. Tbh, between Palomar and uni, I’ve *never* lost a hook.

I’ve never understood why some fisherman overthink knots. I’ve tied the “improved clinch knot” for 30 years (with the exception for braid) and it has NEVER failed me. Not once. 60 seconds? ICK takes 15 seconds. If it’s ever failed you, you’ve either not tied it right or you’re flat out lying.
