There are a lot of different types of fishing knots out there on the market, but with that being said, when it comes to fishing fluorocarbon fishing line, the best knot is the double pitzen.
I have fished a lot of different knots over the years and many of them I would break off from time to time...that is not the case with this knot. I have literally never broke it. It is truly stronger than any other knot I have found!
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

    Ty-
I wanted to thank you profusely for introducing me to this knot. Since I have been using it, I have never went back to using anything else. This knot is so good that when I hooked a rock a few hours ago fishing on the Snake River from the shore, that when I pulled really hard to dislodge my bait, the jig ended up breaking from the hook instead of the line tie because it was so strong. Keep up all your great fishing tips. I really think between you, Matt Stefan and Matt and Tim from TacticalBassin you guys are simply the best out there giving their subscribers true value from the content you guys supply. Keep up the great work!!👍🏻🙂

When I tried the FG knot, I had to keep watching the videos over and over and trying again and again. I was happy with the first try with this one.

I Switched when I saw a video of pros saying the Palomar knot was horrible for floro. Glad I know the name of it now, I hung up a brand new Megabass crank bait yesterday, and yanked on it for 15 minutes, and got it back without snapping off! Really wish I knew about this knot sooner! I've seen other videos on this knot but when I saw your video recommending it, I was sold. I'm going to start using it this year and hope to have as much success with it as you do. I use P-line 8Lb fluoro so I don't think it's the line and the biggest fish I'll probably catch here in Colorado is 5 to 6 lbs. I may jump to a 10 or 12 lb fluoro just to be safe though.

Knot knowledge is great, but knowing what they're actually for and how they work is more important. No knot is all around "superior" to all other knots, but several of them are superior for their correct application than many others.
Also, fun fact, most people tying a Palomar do it incorrectly because they don't have their line laid out correctly when they pull it. The failed tie will get you by just fine for the majority of fishing applications, but when tied correctly is way stronger than the failed version most people are doing.
Glad to see some coverage of knot anatomy going on in your videos.

This knot is the shiz. Been using it a few years. Always thought it was called the Shaw Grizby knot. An added benefit is that the direction of the tag end acts as a hook keeper if you slide your plastic over the knot. Sometimes I use glue to make the tag ends a little stiffer for this purpose. On the downside, this knot catches a lot of weeds if not covered with plastic. If I’m fishing around cheese I’ll switch to a Trilene since the tag on the knot points toward the lure.

Something most people don't understand about high end flourocarbons, some mono's and co polymers is the extreme low friction surface finish on them. When you wet lines like these when tightening knots and hitches it creates a huge amount of friction that can cause a lot of line damage as the surfaces moving over each other effectively stick/weld together. Best example would be trying to move two sheets of glass with water between them vs two dry pieces. It's worth trying out tying your knots/hitches without wetting them, high gloss finish on the line is a possible indicator they will tighten up better dry.

There's a lot of line stubs pointing back at the rod when you're done. Those stubs will collect grass and weeds on the retrieve. I add one step and run all those ends back throgh the loop just above the hook's eye. Makes the size of the knot a bit larger but, less to catch weeds on the retrieve.

Set the hook, got her to the boat and at the last second she took off hard and just snapped my line. Had to be at least a 7-8 lber. I've been using the double pitzen knot since 2000. And never failed me once. It is very reliable and I use it while Sea & Fresh water fishing.

Thanks for the great informative video!!
You briefly mentioned that you didn't use it on the liter poundage FC. I am a trout fly fisher. I sometimes go all the way to 1 lb. Test. Once in clear lake I was rejected with 4 lb. Test. Then with the same fly it was pounced on immediately with 1 pound test.
So how lite a FC line is knot still effective?
    Thanks
    just jim

The Jimmy Houston knot is a double pitzen. It's very effective. Palomar knot is very good and easy to tie though as is the improved clinch. I always say fish your confidence but objectively I think the double pitzen is the best knot when in doubt and you really need knot strength.

( this I've seen, here in south border, they use a double knot , through the eye, then hook through the eye, of the line, so can be changed fast and easy , and secure. !)

I switched to some slick braided line and no matter how many wraps i did on the clinch know it would slip out with almost no pressure. Doesnt happen to me with the palomar know but i have had lures go flying on cast so i will give the double pitzen a shot.

Down to try this out, hard to lay down the san diego jam but I will admit it does have issues with slipping if not tied perfectly. Never heard of the double pitzen, thanks Ty!

I have never had an issue with a double pitzen. Polomar is a great knot for braid but not so much for flouro or mono.

I’ve sit for hours testing knots like a true fishing nerd. The Palomar, Double Clinch, Double Pitzen, Doubled Uni and many others along with leader knots.. I have came to trust the double line SDJ over everything. I also do 3 wraps like the Pitzen no matter the line size. In the case of braided line I will do 4 to 5 wraps depending on the diameter.. The Double Pitzen is great though, I would feel pretty confident in it as well.

I’ve been testing knots myself as well. I’ve found that the Trilene knot beats the double pitzen, double SDJ, doubled palomar and Uni and improved clinch. Tested with 15 pound fluro and 10 pound mono.

    • @TheRaven243
      @TheRaven243 Год назад

@@butterytoast4836 only thing I don’t like about the Trilene Knot is when you cinch, especially with fluorocarbon, the loop through the eye has a lot of friction. Fluorocarbon doesn’t like friction and heat.. If I do tie it, I like to tie it in reverse like a reverse clinch, which is a little harder to keep the loop placed right with the Trilene knot. They just cinch up better in the reverse, and tests have show the reverse clinch method is stronger than the standard.. Whatever works best for you is what you should use, it’s double SDJ for me.

If you cross your line at the eye of the hook when tying a Palomar knot on flouro your line will cut it self on the hook set. You have to make sure your line is parallel on the eye of hook when the knot tightens

Great clinch info. I learned that no not knot from RUclipsr Greg Blanchard earlier this year. It's been good to me for sure, but I didn't know what it was called. Thanks to you, now I can let others know what I now know. You have a ton of knowledge for a young guy, but it's been a good idea to follow it. Granted, I generally fish off the bank, but most of the applications you provide can be used either way. Thanks

Jimmy Houston gets credited for many knots also the triley knot. All these nuts are good just use whatever works for you if you lay down the Palomar knot correctly it is the strongest but you can easily mess it up. Keep fishing
