- The crew of Avocet head north to sail their Victory 21 in the High Sierra Regatta at Huntington Lake, California with the Fresno Yacht Club and Victory 21 fleet.
It was truly a whirlwind of a week! 4 days, 10 races and a few fix-its in between we were exhausted and so excited to head home to the "mothership" to finish up our projects. You may have noticed the awesome sailing clips from a movie sprinkled in this video, if you haven't already you should watch the full movie Wind, which is one of our favorites! Watch it here: amzn.to/2Lop7dI

I used to be part of the mercury fleet and have sailed the High Sierra regatta many times. You got a love Huntington lake, cheers
How cool! It is always nice to go home, especially during the HSR. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers!
Very cool! My only sailing experience was a long-lost summer as a kid in high school where a friend of mine had a Hobie 16 cat that we taught ourselves to sail (pre-youtube/internet) on a local lake. We had soooo much fun hanging over the side and flying a keel. The one time we flipped her, the owner (17 y/o friend) swam all the way back to shore without saying a word to "get help". Haha! By the time He showed back up, my other buddy and I had lowered the sail, flipped her back upright, raised the sail and were sliding onto the beach. We asked where he went and he said he ran to the marina (2 miles) to get help. He said they laughed at him and told him to lower the sail and flip it over.
Awesome! We actually have a Hobie 18 Magnum (Hobie Wan Kenobi) and absolutely love to sail it as well- we just don't have much time due to Avocet!
You're always a winner in my book kiddo
awwww well back atcha buddy!
How true is that! Small boat make the sailor! I grew up as a teen sailing surf cats in winter in bad weather when my brothers boat was the only boat out on the water but it was hell good fun. Those skills will carry over to bigger boats.
yes they sure do! We love our smaller boats, and they have taught us so much.
so much hard work goes into these boats!!!
yup!!
Very cool video. Thanks for sharing!
thank you! welcome aboard
Nice!
Thanks!
OMG! That does look like fun but I would really have allot to learn. Thanks for sharing!
All in good fun, this is WAY more intense than our normal sailing aboard the boat we live on (Avocet). Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Cheers!
Coming Soon To Own And On DVD
lol, for some reason that clip just felt so right
Your videos deserves better numbers. Very entertaining and well made!
Sail Mermaid thank you so much!
Fun video, love the inserted video clips from great sailing movies that fit your story so well. The keel repair puts new meaning into the expression "Get the lead out" or maybe thats what it always meant. Living the adventure through young eyes keeps the aged young. Thanks for the great post, more fun, less worrying about who wins, love it! . You two always win because you understand that is about the journey not the winning. Losing is when you neither learn from the experience nor enjoy every moment of the trip.
Thanks uncle Steve ;) we miss you guys! Heard about Aunt Kims ACL... give her a hug from us!
Hey! Thanks for stopping over on my channel! I'm now subscribed and following on IG! You guys are so cute!!
Well that is awfully sweet! Cheers, thank you!
Very cool. My first experience in a regatta was at Huntington Lake.
same! - Marissa
@@sailingavocet I spent a summer during high school at a camp at the southwestern corner of Huntington Lake called Camp Keola working as a cook. That's where I learned to sail. On Lasers and Hobie cats.

What a great video!!! Loved the Wind inserts.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, cheers!
looks like tons of fun! I was there yesterday, but sadly not on a boat. I love the added clips!
It always is! We just hauled the boat out last weekend since the lake is dropping today :( We are excited to take her down to San Diego this winter though ;)
Looks fun as heck. I had to look up where that lake is. I used to ski at Mammouth Mountain, from the top just one time. The rest of the times from mid mountain.
Excellent! We love our home lake. Unfortunately we almost lost everything during the Creek Fire in 2020... it was an absolutely heart breaking, trying time for many. We are beyond thankful to have made it out of there with our loved ones homes still standing and my mother in laws cat surviving! Read about it here: www.svavocet.com/2020/09/15/up-in-flames/
@@sailingavocet Thats some heavy duty experiance, (Marissa), reminds me of California life in my earlier years. I remember looking out my back yard on Oriole Drive in ~1975
(Pt. Mugu) and seeing the hills on fire. Just little patches on other side of the Pacific Coast Highway. Just around age 13 at the time, I was concerned the fire would jump the road.
Glad the Hobie Cat didn't get toasted! You remember my story on Stanzfam about my first sailing experiance?, was a Hobie mono cat...being "Magic"?
@@SJMessinwithBoats i do remember that story! You have some good ones :)
@@sailingavocet Ha! Yup! But you can out write me for sure.
Always wanted to fly a hull on one of those things, almost bought a Prindle in '86 after renting a tired Hobie Cat and sticking it nose down to a halt! I feel like I'm not accomplished till I can fly a hull across a lake. So for now thats just a bucket list thing.
I've never capsized a sailboat but have been launched from a sailboard about 30 feet, and sail planted (hooked into the harness, splat) once in the ocean there out of Ventura. I guess I would probably take that Panama Canal and just pay the money to get to the west coast. We are just getting started this year, sailing, and I have no idea who here is gonna like it or not. .
Love seeing this (from another young married couple)
Well thank you Bianca! We appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment.
