@@TheLordofMetroids I did not know that but to be honest I don’t think that changes my opinion much. While it doesn't add overmuch to the melee combat, it's definitely useful as a movement tool and I've used to more than once to make jumps I couldn't make, reach heights I couldn't clamber, or save myself from falls.
I thing a Lord of Change is universally a frustrating encounter. The image of Caedo and Kai's absolutely decimating every evil in the galaxy side by side is too much for my mind to handle. With the success of Boltgun, i hope we get a remake of Fire Warrior, this time as a proper game.
Yes to the remake of Fire Warrior and this time they need to add some battlesuit fun into it, some sneaking around with the XV-25, some big gun fun with the XV-8 and some really big gun fun with XV-88.
Malum Caedos name translates to "I kill evil" and he follows through on that to a tee. If I could change a few things, it would be to remove the taunt button and just have Caedo spout one liners like a Build Engine character. He's got the attitude for it.
I'd have it serve a mechanical role. It forces an enemy you aimed at (or the nearest one) to drop a chunk of contempt when killed. No need for a cooldown, just limit the mark duration. (Don't limit how many you can mark, let people get gud and do comedic things with it.)
@@Sorain1or heck have it effect certain enemies. Cultists will crap there pants and stop shooting for a few seconds. Deamons will not be effected beyond the contempt drop you mentioned since demons are… you know deamons they don’t care. Fun fact, when the pink horrors don’t split, it’s typically because you did extra damage to really paste them. Exploding barrels, grenades, and just concentrated fire after their death makes them not split, similar to keeping the Chaos champions down
The dash ABSOLUTELY has an amazing use. When you dash, you deal damage (since you’re a walking tank, obviously). You deal enough damage to kill nurglings and continue charging through them. You can wipe out an entire line of nurglings in front of you with a single dash.
@@holidayspirit- Yeah, those were clearly an invention of Tzeentch. Maybe with a bit of help by Khorne, considering how many people get killed by stairs each and every year. Damn you, Ruinous Powers, for sloped surfaces, the Heresy was one thing, but now you went too far!
The ideal 40k style doom game is Malum Caedo, O’kais, Maugen Ra, Farsight, and Sly Marbo tearing through the 40k setting against Chaos, Orks, Necrons, Tyranids, and Drukhari together as the Darktide soundtrack plays on loop.
Definitely recommend trying the dash/charge offensively. It's a great way to clear rooms of cultists, nurglings and blue horrors. If you can kite them a little bit you can kill a ton all in one go without needing a single bullet
If you kill the horrors before the animation triggers you can prevent them spawning entirely though sometimes only one will spawn if near an edge. The same works for chosen.
@@nostear8261 Turning them to mush is gibbing, not killing. The animation you are talking about is their death animation. Killing is when you empty the health bar. This game really needs some DLC, with other playable characters, campaigns, co-op. Endless possibilities. Makes me think they could go a long way with a little sampling of what the game, Gunfire Reborn, offers.
The fact that when your start a new file you see a little screen on the side that says "Sternguard Veteran" makes me think they will be adding new characters later. He wanted them to have a use after the wars were over, whether it be politician, logistician or artists.
I imagine it has understandably become ‘a son of Guilliman CAN know only war’, which, with Big G looking over the galaxy map in the new cinematics, I think he’d have to agree with. Still would die a little inside, though, but after being killed and resurrected there might not be much in there to kill 😅
Chainsaw is mid yeah but it does have one unsaid trick - it makes you invincible to projectiles while charging at someone (phasing through them). Also I used the short dash to splatter heretics and minor daemons out of the way, also useful for pushing enemies out of the way in tight hallways.
Malum Caedo has been affectionately dubed the Chuck Norris of Space Marines so enjoy. Malum Caedo pissed in the fuel tank of a Land Raider as a joke. That Land Raider became the first Titan.
Boltgun just seems to me to be so perfectly suited to the pre-grimdark, unashamedly camp-as-all-fuck era of 40k that was my starting point (I've been playing since Rogue Trader) . Just a big shouty boi hamming it up and chewing the scenery while mowing down hordes of goggle-eyed murderous loonies. Perfect.
My biggest complaint on the game is there is barely any visual indicator of you taking damage, which is annoying since some damage such as explosion does have its own visual indicator. I have so many instances of me dodging enemy fire not even realizing I was actually getting hit until I eventually fall flat on the ground Aside from that, I love this game
Guilliman: This day shall forever be remembered as the day that the tide was turned and it was not because of us Primarchs returning, not the teachings of leaders long past nor the efforts of countless servants. No, it was because of a single Sternguard named Malum Caedo who honestly terrifies me.
Personally I started to feel fatigued with it past the second chapter, perhaps just because of the sometimes confusing level design, and I didn't always like the Purge sections. I felt it was a bit repetitive, but others might like it just sticking to the established formula. I think Boltgun could also use a little more feedback for when you take damage, or a severe burst of damage. I still like the game regardless, and was amazed that it was as good as it is also a taunt button is the best thing ever, like DRG giving you a salute
About the horrors not splitting, I noticed that if you gib the pink horror before its corpse spawns the splitting orbs, it doesn't actually split. Might be a bug, but I don't think it is.
You can also melt an Aspiring Champion SO hard they can’t finish resurrecting, so I’m guessing that’s intentional, you reduce them to atoms before they can split 😅
The dash does a little bit of damage, enough to kill the weaker enemies, in groups even. It becomes really handy if you get swarmed by, say, Nurglings and you can pull off some decent combos with it and the chainsword. Plus you can use it to clear big platforming gaps by jumping at the end of the dash for lots of speed & air.
Great review! Really liked it :) BTW if you 'overkill' the pink horrors (shoot them to gibs as they die) then it prevents them from spawning the blue horrors 😊

Not sure if it's mentioned later on as I'm commenting mid watching but I just love the detail on the Horrors. 1 pink turns into 2 blues 1 blue turns into 2 brimstones Now the brimstones are just its death vfx, but still. It's a nice touch that they went that far with the Horrors
The R:TW "DUMDUM DA DUMDUM" battle song exists permanently in my head along with a voice going "You have killed the enemy general! Now his men show fear! Now they may turn and run, ATTACK, A T T A C K!"
This and darktide achieve the one thing most WH games fail to do, the soundtrack, as weird as that sounds the OST absolutely matters when trying to match the grimdark aesthetic
It is probably 2 months too late but in regards to the pink horror enemy I have discovered the lesser blue horror will not spawn as long as the corpse has been destroyed, via chainsword, explosion, etc. These little details solidify this game in my memory of arena shooters.

I know I'm late but : 1. If you press the "N" key, the servo skull will show you which way you have to go. 2. The dash can kill multiple enemies if you ram through them, very good tool if you are cornered or wanna push through.
In defense of the chainsword: I see it best for two options, givbing pink horrors and champions to prevent respawns, and give you I-frames. I’ve noticed many times that you tend to phase through most projectiles when dashing with your sword, so often I use it to gtfo when I’m taking too much flack. Lord of change just tossed a massive damage attack at you? Just dash through. Also, first time I fought a lord of change I had a void grenade, so I shredded him instantly, but when my health began to tick down, that’s when I realized: oh, your the fucking archvile of 40k huh?
The sword mostly just became a movement tool later on for me, since you can pull a full 90 degree turn in midair with it, provided you have something soft and squishy to sink it into that'll (hopefully) die quick. Biggest complaints are that the dash doesn't always work well (if at all), almost no damage feedback when you take damage, some enemies feel entirely too tanky for their size/role (lesser plague toads) but that might just be a me problem. I haven't played since they supposedly fixed the feedback issue, but I kinda wish the dash was like a Doom Eternal or Ultrakill dash in whatever direction you want with no wind-up.
In case you didn’t know D-Rok released an officially licensed Warhammer album in the 90’s. I’d also like to mention that it was published through Warhammer records because GW decided to make a record label for a time.
4:58 Ah yes! Seeing Malum Caedo and Shas'la Kais teaming up and slaughtering daemons, orks and tyranids together in one big Doomslayer bro-mance would be the greatest sight for eyes of all time.
The dash is good for building up speed to do a far jump to bypass some parts of a level, and sometimes you can use it to float in the air if you time it right

As a fellow Eldar player, I agree with the sentiment at the end of the video about this game and how it is the highest form of praise a xeno player can give an imperial based game.
A detail i really like is that they didn't make you just any marine, but a Sternguard vet. Which are described as the ones you get when the regular marines need someone to save their superhuman butts. Being faster, having mastery over all weapons and being especially good with laying down accurate boltgun fire. They did their research to figure out which type would work best as a Doomguy substitute.
7:48: - Kraken Rounds have a solid core and a stronger propellants, making it essentially AP ammo. - Dragonfire Rounds contain a volatile core of pressurized flammable gas that detonates behind cover. On the tabletop, enemies hit by them weren't allowed to take cover saves. - Hellfire Rounds are filled with a nasty bio-corrosive chemical agent, making it the weapon of choice against Xenos like Orks and Tyranids. - Vengeance Rounds are basically micro-nukes, developed during the Horus Heresy by the Alpha Legion of all people to be used against Astartes.

10:00 this isn't a bug, if you manage to overkill an enemy it goes into a pile of flesh right away instead of falling over dead. If this happens, anything that would normally happen doesn't, and the enemy just dies. I've found that mashing the rev button on the chainsword can consistently overkill the pink horrors and using the melta gun on the aspiring champion can obliterate them
i haven't been into whats been happening with darktide for a bit (although i have heard complaints) so could you explain to me (or lead me to a post somewhere) about what is going on? especially when people like bricky were lauding the game when it first came out im suprised
Someone probably mentioned it, but the dash is also a melee attack. Yeah, the chainsword is a traversal mechanic in the second half of the game, not a weapon. I don't think Bricky figured this out either.
That's simply hilarious
@@TheLordofMetroids I did not know that but to be honest I don’t think that changes my opinion much. I can always just run up and shoot them, which has the added benefit of them being dead before I get to them rather than a little bit after I get to them while all their friends are still shooting at me.
Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) ahh mechanic 💀
While it doesn't add overmuch to the melee combat, it's definitely useful as a movement tool and I've used to more than once to make jumps I couldn't make, reach heights I couldn't clamber, or save myself from falls.
I thing a Lord of Change is universally a frustrating encounter.
In Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay they are probably the most powerful greater daemon, they can reroll any check, are immune to critical fails and have insanely powerful spells, which they always succeed at casting because of those rerolls. Oh, and you can’t cast spells near him, there’s a chance you’ll turn into a chaos spawn. When I was playing, a lord of change almost wiped our entire party of end-game characters, in like 3 spells. Fun times!
Triple extra Tzeentchian Fun(TM) variant is playing that one adventure that spawns fucking KAIROS FATEWEAVER in the middle of a city. You happen to be nearby. Admittedly, you're supposed to stop the summoning, but if you don't, well...
WFRP 2e in particular has "The man who collects horse poo from the roads to dry and sell as fuel" as a player class you could reasonably expect to be involved in a given adventure, so your chances against Time Chicken are slim to none.
Hell, battlefield-trained battle wizards are beyond the normal scale of progression, If you're extremely lucky your buddy might be a Grail Knight and he might have a chance if you cross all the fingers on the eighteen new hands you just sprouted from being next to Tzeentchy Fucker Numero Uno when he ripped the veil open.
Yeah, and Caedo just says "fuck that" and shits on the greater demon even a squad of grey knights would have a somewhat hard time with.

Rebind taunt and reload to the same button
@@acekoala457Bind attack and taunt to the same button.
I'd have it serve a mechanical role. It forces an enemy you aimed at (or the nearest one) to drop a chunk of contempt when killed. No need for a cooldown, just limit the mark duration. (Don't limit how many you can mark, let people get gud and do comedic things with it.)

Not on any sloped surface you won't
@@holidayspirit- Yeah, those were clearly an invention of Tzeentch. Maybe with a bit of help by Khorne, considering how many people get killed by stairs each and every year. Damn you, Ruinous Powers, for sloped surfaces, the Heresy was one thing, but now you went too far!
You can also push Chaos Space Marines off ledges and insta-kill them.
A Halo-Esque game starring Malum Caedo with the Arbiter role being filled by the dude from Fire Warrior would be the perfect game
Probably against Tyranids... they're the only faction with enough numbers to last more then seven minutes.
Not how it works, you just need to gib them, whether with plasma gun or just continuing to rip them with the chainsword
@@fedefyr that’s what I said. You just gotta turn them to mush before the animation plays

I could see like a Phobos Raven guard who gets a cloak and pistols, a Blood Angel Sanguinary Guard that gets a jetpack a flamer, and early access to the Melta.
Perfect.

"Armor of Contempt"
My biggest complaint on the game is there is barely any visual indicator of you taking damage, which is annoying since some damage such as explosion does have its own visual indicator. I have so many instances of me dodging enemy fire not even realizing I was actually getting hit until I eventually fall flat on the ground
Aside from that, I love this game
I think that might have been addressed in the patch that came out this week
my favorite meme related to this game is the image of captain titus holding Malum Caedo on a leash like he's an attack dog
I still like the game regardless, and was amazed that it was as good as it is
also a taunt button is the best thing ever, like DRG giving you a salute
About the horrors not splitting, I noticed that if you gib the pink horror before its corpse spawns the splitting orbs, it doesn't actually split. Might be a bug, but I don't think it is.
They don’t spawn blue horrors if you finish them off with the chainsword
You can also melt an Aspiring Champion SO hard they can’t finish resurrecting, so I’m guessing that’s intentional, you reduce them to atoms before they can split 😅
The dash does a little bit of damage, enough to kill the weaker enemies, in groups even. It becomes really handy if you get swarmed by, say, Nurglings and you can pull off some decent combos with it and the chainsword.
Plus you can use it to clear big platforming gaps by jumping at the end of the dash for lots of speed & air.
Aside from the need for slightly spicier melee (please, a powerfist is all i ask...) this game is exceptional

It is probably 2 months too late but in regards to the pink horror enemy I have discovered the lesser blue horror will not spawn as long as the corpse has been destroyed, via chainsword, explosion, etc. These little details solidify this game in my memory of arena shooters.

D-Rok's original name was Bolt Thrower. As in the WFB Dwarf unit. They released two directly sourced warhammer albums in the 90s.
Oh my god, instead of HP or armor you have contempt? That's a direct reference to the "my armor is contempt, hatred is my sword" line
3:55 D-rok was one of the bands produced under GW music label, when they had one, there's so much going on ...
Nice lore crimes shout out. You guys have become my favorite 40k podcast even before AdRic.
In case you didn’t know D-Rok released an officially licensed Warhammer album in the 90’s. I’d also like to mention that it was published through Warhammer records because GW decided to make a record label for a time.
