The steps he layed out are ok and probably good IF you have a lift. However if you are on the ground like most people here is what I learned from doing it today. There is absolutely no need to remove the cover bracket. There is also no need to use a wrench like he did, just scoot yourself forward under the vehicle and the nuts are clearly visible, you can just use a 3 and 6 inch extension on a swivel joint adapter in the ratchet and it works way better and a whole lot easier that trying to turn the wrench like he did, plus you can take off the nuts and loosen the cables while the starter is in place.
I was having problems with my 02 tahoe would start but sometimes it would just make one click and nothing. Took starter to 0reilys auto tested good five times. Got new starter and is working.
I couldn't get the starter to tip forward so I couldn't get the starter out even with removing the wheel to try to get to the cable nuts on the starter. I gave it my all but I had to tell my customer that I simply couldn't do it on this vehicle. That old yukon was a fighter and it won. All I have to say is screw you GM
That's why I'm taking mine out and down to the part store Today - to make sure it's the Right One. Why take a chance ? & there are 2 different starters for the 5.7 confirmed when I called for a quote.
You forgot to mention removing the dipstick tube mine wouldn’t come out without doin that cost me a lot of time trying to get it out without that removed ed
was thinking the same thing - I'm changing mine Today I wonder if I still have one on mine? Bought Denali Yukon last Fall and starter Cratered in -35c weather - fun fun

Just replaced my starter with your help. Thanks for the best video I could find on this. Me and my pops had a nice time cussing and carrying on.
Thanks for the video! My boyfriends starter just went out and now we are having to replace it!

I wonder if the heat shield can go back on the new starter before it's installed? Seems awkward to get it on after it's installed.

doing this on jack stands. tough little guy to get in and out.
I've see so many of those rusted out underneath. Would Fluid Film stop that rust? Or are GMCs just rust prone?
Heat plate??? It doesn't need to go back on?
It really doesnt do anything
@@AcerArtsOfficial Only shields heat. 😂
Is there 2 different types of starter for this motor I seen the housing of starter look different

I'm getting a Wilson OEM - Not a rebuild
$205 Canadian + tax after my 10% discount But it's new
I watched this video to see the correct position for the solenoid heat Sheild but the mechanic did not put it back on. 🤷♂️

Left over parts mean you did it better than the original builder😄
If yours is missing, go to your local pick & pull junkyard & grab one. Can’t see them charging more than $3-4 for one.
Do I have to buy a starter to replace the solenoid?
+strickland43279 Thanks for watching! Yes you will have to replace the entire starter to replace the solenoid.
@@TRQ What I thought... Thanks
Awesome man... thanks a lot
What motor is this for?
What if my starter won’t shut off after replacement?
Forgot to put the heat shield back on.
Go to the junkyard & get one if you already threw out the old starter. Don’t even have to unbolt the starter to pop the shield on or off.
@@justinstandifer604 he is saying the guy didnt put it on in the video
Okay well there is a sensor hanging down ware does that go 😮
good video.

Don't trust TRQ videos. They're very sketchy and always edit out hard parts
