Ryemanni is such a talented dev and I'm so glad this remake exists. For the longest time I've wanted to give this game a proper chance but always gave up in band land lol. Now that it's manageable coupled with the quality of life changes this became one of my favorite games ever. Also YOU HAVE TO play rayman 2, it's such a charming and well-defined game, it will instantly become an unforgettable experience.
2:18 I think Origins called him a Thingamajig? A Whatchmacallit. I don't know and am not gonna pretend I do. The most I know about this character is that he tried to blow a hot grass fairy's dress up and he got his series hijacked by the white, long eared minions.
This was excellently well described and brilliantly reviewed! Rayman Redemption definitely outshines the original Rayman game because of how his abilities get added at the beginning of the game because back then I used to have so much trouble getting through the game but now I am stress free and ready to give this a try someday.
"Editor's note: Not doing that" Actually, if Garrulous has a vest of any sort, he could've done that very easily, get/wear a bright green wrist-length shirt, and over it wear a vest/t-shirt, and viola, greenscreen will do the work for you.
As a big Rabbids fan, I can't find anything about the Time Traveling Washing Machine and Space Mama's washing machine but it's probably a reference to Rayman 1.
I purchased Rayman probably about a year ago but apparently needed to watch this video to see what the game was like after world 1. Because that game was tough dude
Yeah, I might be a bit biased because it's a game I grew up with, but I loved the original Rayman, tough as it was. My disc got pretty scratched up though, and at one point, my save file glitched. So instead of being at the second stage of the art world, with 2 lives and 2 continues, I was at the beginning of the mountain world, with 2 lives and 1 continue. This remake though is an absolute MASTERPIECE. Tweaked some stuff that needed to be tweaked, and added some fun stuff. I will say that the weakest part of it is the more 'original' stuff. Like the last world before Candy Chateau. It's not BAD, per se, but it's definitely not as good as the other stages. But for the most part, it's another good case of fans making a game WAY better than the original. I do wish game developers would take note and basically buy these games from the creators and release them as full fledged games, obviously with the fan creator getting a good cut of the money. Reminds me a bit of Streets of Rage Remake, which is GREAT if you love Streets of Rage, but unfortunately the creator got a cease and desist. It was still pretty popular and you can find it fairly easily, but still.
I don't wanna get too ahead of myself but as a member of the secret club I'd love to hear Garrulous talk about rayman 2 and 3 at some point. This man is funny and I always like when rayman gets some attention, since ubisoft clearly won't give him it.
If you are planning on returning to Rayman 2, I would go with any other version than the 3ds. There's a bug that makes it impossible to collect all the lums.
Okay, I made it to the end of this video and learned a few things in the process: I should play Rayman Redemption-I bought the original off PSN about 7 years ago, but it was so hard I gave up on the music world (I already forgot its name, even though you just mentioned it earlier in the video [EDIT: Band Land-skimming back to the earlier part of the video was a reasonable idea]), but Redemption's Casual looks to be just the experience for me 😌; I would eat at a dust buffet; something funny, which even when expected is generally pretty random or off the beaten path, though this was a bit unexpected inasmuch as it was actually a straightforward declaration of "something funny"; I have, though passively, successfully shrugged off a clear sign of weakness, thus foraging on in my search for greater inner strength, one video at a time; and lastly, I use a trifle too much verbiage in such matters as these (wait, I knew as much already 🤦♂️).
Wow, this remake really does look rad! The extra Mr. Dark fight at the end looks especially cool! I always thought it was strange that in the original game he just bails on you and sends out his chimera at you instead, made the ending really anti-climactic :/
If you want to try out Rayman 2, you should go for either the Dreamcast version, or Revolution on the PS2. The Dreamcast port is.. well, kind of the standard version? Sort of? I don't know how to describe it. Revolution adds more content, such as a hub world, and more mini games. The PS1 version is the worst, BUUUUTT it also includes a demo of the ORIGINAL Rayman 2, when it was still 2D.
I THINK I understand why they did it the way they did with Rayman 1 by drip feeding you the basic abilities and having players get used to how everything feels, but I really like how Redemption just starts you off with all the necessary things and then grows from there. It immediately expands what you can do with the level design from the start, and it's probably not like people playing Redemption won't know how to play Rayman. And even for people who never played Rayman 1, because it was just before their time, it's still probably a good game to start with. And yeah, one of the things I wish it improved over R1 are those invisible triggers for things that you need to progress or backtrack in a level. I remember Rayman Designer's levels having this thing where you would have to collect 10 tings of a color other than blue to make something happen and also there were sometimes sparkles in places where a trigger was, so you know you were going to make something happen.
Yay, Raymond! I didn't play many of his games but I always loved the character. I likethe language they spoke on The Great Escape. When I was little I thought it was like French or something, no idea why smh.
Fab vid! Just wanted to say thanks for the photosensitivity warning! Really meant a lot as you don't see many creators doing it and I'm pretty sure you saved my autistic ass from a meltdown :)
Great review. I love the remake. IMO it's the best way of playing Rayman. One of the main reasons why the original was so difficult was because the resolution was so low and the camera was zoomed in very close to your character which means you couldn't see very far ahead to avoid traps and enemies. Now with the increased resolution things are a lot easier even on normal difficulty.
I already played it a few times since release and it's great! It's miles better and more fare than the original! The redesigner remake is also great and offers more creative options compared to the original!
This is how the game should've been released and the guys behind the remake did a phenomenal job to salvage this train-wreck and turn it into something that's actually fun. Ubisoft should approach and pay them for their work so they can re-release the game in official capacity across all platforms.
I dunno Garrulous, I always thought Rayman 2 was incredibly overrated. It's not a bad game, it's just a thoroughly average 3D platformer. EDIT: Secret club as always.
Fun fact : I never finished Rayman 1 because It was too difficult. I actually got to Mr. Skops and defeated him, but afterwards...WHICH IDIOT CAME UP WITH THE IDEA OF COLLECTING ALL CAGES. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. to get to the final stage. Fuck off. i watched the last stage and the ending 10 years later on RUclips. This remake actually looks intresting ! I might give it a try
found the game today while searching for the original, it plays so much better than the original, if i had to recommend one of them for a new player i would choose this one.
Aw yeah; it's Rayman in his true glory! Everyone give a hand to Rayman, the guy who was unrightfully stomped on by Rabbids until Ubisoft released new platformers.
To be fair, Rayman 1 did have a run button. But you had to unlock it and it was the last unlockable ability in the game at tge end of the third world. Thats more than half the game.
i remember this playing the GBA version of this on an emulator, died to the first enemy, i got mad, and uninstalled the game I'd say that was a great first to the series
I played the mobile version of Rayman 1 and I really did not have a fond time (and the touch screen controls worked just fine). Funny how you like Space Mama's final fight in this game the most... given how it's arguably the most despised boss fight in the original game. Yeah, even more than Mr. Skops'. A little baffling, but y'know, I think it's kind of a 50/50 situation.
Actually, technically, Mr. Skops' fight is super easy... if you know what to do. If you know his projectile doesn't target you like a loose homing missile, but instead targets _your fists_ like a loose homing missile, it's easy to know what to do and beat him. Problem is... how tf would you know that? Why would the projectiles target your fists after all? What would make you think that? If you punch them directly, they'll still hit you, because they only home on the missiles _loosely._ If you manage to jump over them and avoid them, you'll see them coming back, and that makes ya think you're on the right path. But without punching, beating Mr. Skops is a lot more difficult, yet the game never really gives ya a reason to punch in the air in the first place. In Redemption, the projectiles _dead lock_ onto yer fists. There's absolutely no way to dodge them. And since the only things you can do are essentially running, jumping and punching, and two a these don't work, you'll think "hmm, maybe I can deflect them", and presto, it works. While you don't fully deflect them, they home on your fists so well that you could assume they actually do deflect them towards Mr. Skops. It's arguably the best way you could've figured out his weakness without being outright told about it. As such, his fight is now harder because he has new attack patterns. So, even when you know what to do, the fight won't become a cakewalk immediately, as you'll learn to dread his paced claw attack.
Ubisoft has the dumbest bosses you can have. Everybody knows Rayman. The creator is eager to make a game. Fans WANT a game. It doesn't matter what you make as long as it's a Rayman game. Ubisoft be like “Yeah we have this iconic and beloved character let’s do nothing with him”
"instead, let's make like 40 assassin's creed games instead lol"
Like it's crazy because they still show him as their mascot because when you search up "Who is Ubisoft's mascot" he is there.
In a nutshell; French Mega Man
At least they can't ruin him by sucking every molecuele of the franchise

This remake is much easier than the original but still hard though.
It's a lot easier.
Loving the fact that your making the videos you want to. Varied content is always a good thing, and more attention for Rayman is always good

it would be entertaining to watch you rage
I agree! That would be funny! The series has great music though. Also the creator allows fan games and content as well.
I remember they made a remake of this for the GBA. Very good idea with all that screen crunch.
