  • I get a fair amount of requests to do a video on how to edge route a skateboard with a handheld router. I use a 3/16" router bit, a homemade router plate made from an old skateboard we pressed and rode with a tight hole and my Dewalt compact router on full speed. If you have questions, please leave them in the comments and we'll do our best to answer them.

Glad you put this video up. I was trying to figure out a good way to do this a couple days ago and was having issues w the router gauging the rails.

For someone with no access to a drum sander, what's the next best and cost efficient method for similar results for smooth rounded side rails? Thanks

Palm sander with 120 grit, then 220 grit. Hand sand with 400 grit. That’s what we did before getting a drum sander. Worked great, it just took longer.

Awesome tutorial. Question: I am trying to make a deck that has a 7.126 into a 7" nose.. just would like the nose a little shorter for my skating. 0.126 equals 1/8th? correct? my confusion is where to start the trimming process for the nose? behind the front truck holes? middle of truck holes? as for measuring deck from bottom of top bolts on the nose is where it starts to narrow out. Also, if wanting to make the deck a 8.38 from a 8.5, would you slim off 1/16th on each side? or just go for 1/8th on one side? any info would be awesome! thanxz!

Man. Been looking for this info for days! Thanks. You were talking about mounting the router so you don't have to go handheld. What's the best way to do that?

How would you route a 1/8 square channel nice and clean to mount trucks deeper in the board to reduce overall height?

I've never had the need to do that, but I'd imagine you could use a router and a template to hog out that area. Ive seen many videos on youtube of folks making jigs to hog out material in other woodworking projects. Take a look on youtube for something that could be applied to your usecase.
