    Awesome work! Those jigs you printed are amazing. Yes I do believe you will need a collet specific to that router model, and some routers can’t have both 1/4”, and 1/2”, some can

    Great video, I can't remember the last time I got so many good ideas from one single RUclips video!
    As someone with an obsession for dust collection I really appreciate the thought that went into your 3d printed jigs! Have you seen the swivelling dust collection cup on a festool router? I bet you could incorporate something like that into the dome.
    The fight or flight look on your face when you fired up the big router was gold! I've definitely been there before haha. You're absolutely right though, a healthy fear for your equipment will serve you better than anything else!

    That was awesome and i just ordered Roarockits version of the rounder tool you made! Nice! With the deck templates, I have been using a similar idea for templates on our HandPlanes but seeing how you did that inspired me for multiples of our surf skate deck shapes! I have your hole template tool and that works awesome. You should make and sell that little round-over tool for the hand router! Brilliant idea! Keep up the great work!

  • @Silver9RXP
    @Silver9RXP 3 года назад +3

    Those jigs are amazing. I would be interested in print files for both of those and be glad to contribute. The dome shape is genius as you can maneuver the board in many different planes instead of one horizontal plane. If I may suggest an editable file for the orange dome so that we can adapt different diameter routers to that. You are a pathblazer! Cool stuff and very enjoyable to watch!

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  3 года назад

      Thanks for the kind words dude! I didn't invent the dome shape for the router guide, I just adapted it to a 3d print. The files will definitely be available at some point soon, I just want to make some small updates with what I learned from this prototype. I agree on the working files too, I'm sure all the trim routers out there have different diameters.

      That style of domed jig is actually really common in small skateboard shops. Most of the time people make them out of wood. I just made one that was 3d printable and incorporated a clamp to hold the pin router in place.

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  2 года назад

      It's designed around the Bosch Colt router so anything of a similar size should work. I've had a couple people who had to use shims because their particular model was a little too small, but even with the shims people seem really happy with it. I'm also going to be including some shim stock with them from now on just in case.

      Oh word well honestly I’m going to buy one just because I like the channel and want to support! Also gonna get a hole jig! • @toony1998
      @toony1998 2 года назад

      Also would be cool if you sold a concrete router template with pins and handles for securing the deck and the handles for easily guiding it along the router table. Just an idea because it’s pretty tough to get the holes to line up and the handles would be a lot safer and make it much easier to hold

    Chris how thick dimension wise, were those two plastic pieces you put in-between the board template and the production board? We don't have a 3D Printer so will be using some other material to create those pieces. Will use some sticky push blocks to guide the template and board into that monster bit. Thanks again and awesome vids and tips as usual.

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  3 года назад

      They're just the depth of the board. Those plastic pieces are literally just sections of the mold, so its the height of the kicktails + the depth of the concave. You can 100% use a flat plywood template though and many, many shops do that and make amazing boards.

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  3 года назад +1

      The footprint for the router mount is about 110mm x 90mm and the dust hood is about 220mm x 180mm but you could probably put it on the bed diagonally and fit it on a smaller machine

    This was awesome, your videos are always great!
    As far as I know, you need to get the specific collet for your router. Usually they're not very hard to find (at least online). What's the diameter on that scary bit, just out of curiosity?
    I'd be interested in those files too if you want to put them up for sale btw.
    Oh and, I might be interested in making mountainboard decks at some point in the future. What do you think a couple of layers of fiber glass would do to a routing bit?

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  3 года назад +1

      The bit is 3/4" wide and 2.5" tall, it's a freaking beast. Glass will probably make the edges of your bit dull faster but it should still work just fine. I used a router a bunch to shape my snowboard after it was built, as long as the blade is sharp it should work the same as it does for wood.

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  2 года назад

      Some people have used the dust intake together with the edge trimmer, which wasn't even something I thought of but I'd like to give it a try at some point. I'd love to get dust collection integrated right into the router mount but that's going to have to be for future versions.
