The best thing for the ecodiesel is to clean the map sensor and the mass air flow sensor at every oil change and change the fuel filter every 15,000 miles. Doing this will keep you out of the shop and will keep your MPG at it's best. I also have a TS PERFORMANCE throttle position module on my 2016 ecodiesel and it MASSIVELY REDUCES turbo lag. I have 60,778 miles on mine and still get 702 miles per tank on the highway. That's 27-28 miles per gallon. And I get around 575 miles per tank city driving. Just keep your sensors clean beyond your regular routine maintenance and see the difference for yourself. (Oil burners are #1 for mpg)

I'd love a video on cleaning MAP and MAF sensors. I've never done mine and am at 126k miles. Still get 700 miles on a tank highway. City is only about 500. Less during winter. I do my fuel filter every 15k.

482,000 miles on my ED transporting Airstreams. First motor pushed out a head gasket at 371k. Partly my fault. Original 8 speed no issues. New motor has 24 month unlimited mileage warranty bought at discount for $5,500. Basic R&R $1500. Ordered delivered & swapped inside a week. GDE tune w turbo brake. Great truck for towing 1/2 ton appropriate loads w WDH. Routinely tows 6K TTs. 30 HWY, 23 around town, 15 towing at 65.

Yeah, of you take care of a ED, it will last you. If you dont, it wont last you. I was nervous about getting one since it seems everyone on the internet has issues with theirs, but my friend who is a diesel mechanic has one that had 120k vouched that if i take care of it then it will be decent.

    • @JohnDiMartino
      @JohnDiMartino 4 года назад +1

Yup combined with the bottom end failures ,the fuel savings aren’t enough to offset the weak engine that likely won’t make 200,000 miles without needing a long block,an egr cooler and a DPF ,and DOC catalyst. If you have to have a Fiat product your better off taking your chances with a Hemi and hoping it doesn’t wipe a cam lobe. I have never seen a bottom end go out of a Hemi that wasn’t making waaayyy over stock power.

    • @MattSmith-vl8zp

The only mention of the cam gear moving was the youtuber who committed suicide...hard to take him seriously after that. I have 20000 miles on my ecodiesel without any issues. In my opinion some of the problems can be attributed to people who have never owned a diesel and bought these treating them like hemis.

Getting ready to have my 2016, 53,000 miles EcoDiesel back in the shop for the sixth time over the service throttle control light on. I did not want the software update, but was forced into it on my fourth visit. It did not fix the issues the light came back on which puts my truck into limp mode. The last fix was to replace turbo charger. Got a hundred two miles down the road and the light came back on again. Whoa is me. And I really was happy about this truck until I had all these issues.
Would a delete and tune help fix this issue, cuz apparently they have no clue.
Also, is there a way to put my truck back to original factory set, , and get rid of that software update, cuz it's affected my mileage performance and the feel of the accelerator, which my understanding they've got a fix for that coming out soon.
I would appreciate help... this is becoming a nightmare.

Its interesting that the ED in the jeep has extremely low fails but the ED in the pickup is having more engine fails. I read the stories of the fails and I see 2014 and 2015 were worse so I assume the factory learned something. I have the GDE tune and the truck runs great. I use Rotella T6 and I change the oil when the engine says it is at 10%. My warranty on the engine is to 100k miles and I still have 35k miles to go (2 years) until i remove the EGR. Great video. I have a 2016 RAM Eco diesel Truck. I don't see the advantage of my Ecodiesel with diesel price 90 cents above gasoline prices. My towing capacity is less and acceleration is slower while not seeing savings at the pump due to diesel fuel prices. Maintenance cost more and repairs are more expensive. Diesel are great if your looking to tow but I would recommend a bigger truck.

    • @angeloiezzi7054

the main advantage ( and reason I bought one) is longevity. I keep my vehicles for as long as possible. I still have my 04 Dakota. Love it. So in the long run I am hoping this engine lasts my lifetime. Other than that, you are right the $4k price tag for the diesel and $.90 / .75 per gallon more is not all that advantageous. Hemi is quicker. He hit it perfectly. I am not towing anything over 7k lbs and it is not all the time ( mostly for weekend projects) so i splurged and got a 2016. Great video. Keep posting them. I am still learning and this is my first diesel.

EcoDiesel lovers will not appreciate these facts. DO NOT TOW. ANYTHING.
I could have done Ram commercials when I first took delivery on my 2015. For FREE. I loved that truck. It was the sharpest looking and greatest running vehicle I've had in a real long time. I got more raves on it than my Cadillacs I've owned. Twice I exceeded 30 miles per gallon and I know a guy who hit 32 mpg on his.
Towing is not what this machine was made for. Ram service advisors flat-out told me they have to be driven like a sport car, empty and hard. I towed a camper trailer and I was in my limits including GVWR.
Ram has stopped production for 2019 on all their US platforms that offered the EcoDiesel.
I had my 2015 for 54k miles before I threw in the towel. TWO engines, TWO turbos, TWO rear ends and then the speed controller failed. All but the speed controller was backed by Ram, including loaners, but after I paid for the speed controller I dumped that truck like a hot rock.
I'm in a Cummins 2500 Limited now. We'll see what this beautiful black beast will do.

It will fail you. Just like all the junk they make now. Just a bigger piece of shit. It might look better though on the back of a flatbed with it dies on you. Probably the only difference. Keep it shined up so when it shits out on you it looks sharp getting towed to the dealer. Meanwhile you can grease your ass up for when they tell you whatever failed is out of warranty. If it makes it that long until the first major failure.

200,000 km deleted since 86,000. Great trucks just need to ditch the emissions. With a light tune you can get 500 lbs of torque and the fuel efficiency of a Honda civic. I've gotten 1350 km on a tank (really slow all highway of course)

I hope the 19 is revised. Would be nice if the tuning was updated similar to gde and if a keyway was put on the cam. Plus i cant stand the stock oil cooler design and crappy cooling fan. Any suggestions you recommend for any of those?

Is there a reason why the electric throttle control keeps going out ?

I have 2016 EcoDiesel, and it's been in shop going on 6th time for service Engine Throttle Control light comes on, puts truck into limp mode.
I was so happy when I got this truck, now is turning out to be a nightmare.
Did not want the software update, but in 4th service visit they made me, and it didn't fix the issue. Now, lower fuel mileage, and accelerator is not the same. I am second owner, purchased at 32,000 miles in 2018. Now has 53,000 miles. I found out the first owner had the same issue, and traded it in for a gas truck.
Does a delete and tune fix this issue? I see threads were owners are having same issue. Please help!

@@hochhaul some die at 20k. It has a 100k warranty. Change the oil at 7500 vs 10k miles and move on. Based on all the forums and some pretty tracking of failures there is only 1 or 2% failure rate. For those that cant do math that is 98% that have no issues!

Shit oil, shit filters, shit maintenance shit owners cold running and hot shut offs. Should come with a mandatory tutorial session. And every vehicle gas diesel or otherwise should have a bypass oil filtration kit.

2016, 60.000 kms. Tows 30 ft Rv, 6500 lbs in the Rockies like a champ, there is no comparison to ANY gas for torque and fuel economy. I give it only the best oil and Shell V Power diesel. Sure, the Hemi out accelerates it but with what fuel price and depreciation. No going back for me.

Any feedback on the EcoDiesel losing power? I can be driving 60mph and it drops down to 30 with my foot on the gas. It I could be trying to accelerate from 0 and it’s slow creeps up to the desired speed. Check engine light not on. When it was on it was code p0183. The fan seems louder than normal when this occurs. It’s only happens periodically.

    Hi
Help me please, I bought 2015 ram 1500, ecodiesel 110,000 miles. The cars have already been cut by the previous owner dpf, catalyst and EGR. But unfortunately now there is such a problem that on a cold engine there is very high idle speed, 1700 RPM. After buying, I installed the catalyst on the car because it smells very much of gases. But the problem with IDLE did not disappear. Chek engine is off and there are no errors.
    Thanks
