Thanks for the review nice one. Do you have any experience with Boss RC 30 loop station like sound quality ? I've read some reviews that say because its 16bit the sound aint so good. I know the drum sounds are very basic, but I'm mainly interested because you can plug a mic in via the 1/4 inch phantom power input . Thanks
Yes I have, it was my first ever loop pedal!! Great little looper, audio output quality isn't the best like mentioned. But a fun piece of kit! I may be doing a review of one soon! So be sure to subscribe if you haven't already to see that video!
@@BenRowlandsMusic Thanks for your reply Ben. Could you recommend a 2 track looper but not the Boss stuff. Ive been searching for ages trying to find a good quality one that works well without any issues but it seems according to reviews they all seem to have issues with bugs and functionality. I know your a fan of the Aeros i was going to go for it then after consideration i realised i don't want to be continously having to look at a screen all time. Any help or advice would be great thanks mate.
Wow this guy is complaining about a whole page in the manual about how to attach the rubber foot pieces but this guy has used 1/3 of his video to talk about the instruction manual. Wow I got the internet and there's about 30 videos that came up for instructions. I don't know bro you kind of got to not be annoying to sit and complain about annoying things or whatever and be relevant but whatever dude nice hair man
I just got an rc10r, now i just have to carry on doing work coding until 5 pm so i can play with the thing!! i dont think having this on in the background will do any harm though... it is my first looper and i am only really using it with guitar so I think it should do what i need
The website says you can 'import your own rhythms' I initially thought hey cant you import backing tracks anyway, so you could have a sample of real drums , nullifies the rhythm element of the rc10r though, then i looked the site and it says about importing rhythms, but i'm guessing that the drum machine inside is very basic and actually just doesn't have velocity values for the notes anyway, which if true IS a bit shit in 2020 really isnt it!!
@@Robfnord is actually very very good, i wouldn't mind the other comments. Great tool to play abd never get bored, most of the time i only use it with guitar which is perfect
I wanted to buy rc10-r, but everyone scolded him very much, especially the drums. Is it really that bad, you have to buy a separate looper and drum machine???
It really depends what you are wanting from the pedal I guess. For very casual looping, improvising while you practise guitar etc. it would be ok. I have never tried anything like a beat buddy for the drums. But lots of people say that is much better than the drums on the rc10r. Maybe worth checking out some videos on it!
There are heavier and lighter sounding kits available, and the volume of the drums relative to the loops and volume of drums in the A vs. B parts of the song, can be set on a per-song basis. This volume level adjustment is not the same as "performance intensity", but it goes a long way towards determining how "heavy" the sound of the drums will be in a song.
Hi thanks for doing this, I've lost count of the times I've bought equipment fooled by the hype, getting excited, learned everything about it, finding out I've spent a load of money to be disappointed. You want to replacefellow human musicians, because of the hassle you get with them and it's and not always possible to have other musicians. I won't be wasting my money.
Man when I found out about this looper I was like hey such a grea write up .....but for crying out loud, the drums are exactly what you said sounds like popeye’s holding a stick with both hands and bashing the hell out of it. I can’t find for the life of me a decent demo using the other sounds like cajon or a more softer drum if it exists on this machine. Thank you for such on point review
I think the "Acoustic" drum beats might meet your demo needs, depending on which "kit" you select. Each of your 99 songs has a selection for an independed beat and kit.
SO>>>>>>> What is the BEST looper pedal????? Is the RC 300 still the best? I want to get one but I hate to waste money. What about the Headrush??? Is that the best?
- Manual not thick enough -> It's all online - Intros too complex -> you can turn intros off, or you could just figure out the tempo from the fill - Can't play drum track on its own -> yes you 100% can - Can't adjust velocity of drums -> choose a different groove, out of literally 100s
I bought one and have been playing it for a few weeks now. Most of the complaints in this video are based on not knowing how it works. There are setting changes for just about everything brought up in the video. Plus, while some of the intro are a little complex, anyone that can play song should easily be able to figure out the tempo from the intro. And if not, you have to practice. Finally, the unit isn't perfect. There are a few idiosyncrasies that could have been better implemented. That all said, it's great looper and an amazing practice tool.
Yeah bud, the audience for this will certainly be someone brand new to looping, because it makes a whole lot of sense for newbies to buy a $300 looper, certainly not a Ditto or something.
Do you know if you can erase a loop without it being audible? Example: you record a loop live but make a mistake and want to try again but dont want audience to hear it being played back for few seconds while it erases
It only takes a couple seconds to erase your most recent loop, so unless your mistake was very obvious and took place in the first 2 seconds of the loop, nobody would notice. However, if your mistake was not the most recent loop, I've found it's a total nightmare and it's easier to just start all over. If anybody has an answer for erasing a loop that wasn't your most recent loop, that'd be helpful. Sometimes I just unplug it from the wall and plug it back in, such a headache.
I highly recommend getting the Boss dual footswitch accessory. The two switches can be mapped to two parameters from a long, long list. I have one set to always drive tap-tempo input, and the second footswitch is set to stop/erase ONLY the Part 2 (B section) recorded loop phrase, so I can obliterate the just the Part 2 summed loop recordings without affecting the Part 1 loop. I seem to start a song with a much clearer concept for Part 1 then Part 2 LOL.
Hi Ben. Thank you. You just saved me a lot of money. Four and a half minutes in.... "can't just play the rhythm on its own without the looper". So, I'm playing a live gig and want to break out of a song to inter act with the audience, play another riff, whatever, seems this pedal won't allow it. Pity as this just becomes an overpriced bedroom practice toy. Is this correct?
I think many people here just never had one, don't know how to use it but still saying " thank you, I'm saving a lot of money" Strange i can do so much with this, great quality too
All you have to do is study the loop..find how to arrange it..its a good loop station actually…you can watch demos using the 10r loop station..its cool actually
Great video! Do you have any other recommendations for sub ~£250 loop pedals then? I have a cheap looper (similar to the ditto one) and want something that can do a bit more (mostly for practicing/song writing). Ideally the ability to record two loops and switch between them would be good, and something which isn't massive!
Hey thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video! Have you considered the BOSS RC-30? That’s a small 2 track loop pedal. That I believe is under £250 these days! That’s what I first started out with.

what looper for a Epiphone Limited Edition Peter Frampton Les Paul Custom PRO Electric and a Taylor 114cedemotic looping and control of the sound effects
If you are looking for a simple looper, try the Digitech Trio band+. Your drummer will have two variations in intensity (and your bass player even three). Plus the option to shut them up, if nothing they play can charm you. And although you have only 1 track; you can organize five song parts in any order you want. A very nice, easy to operate practicing tool(and cheaper than the Boss RC 10...). Though I would program the songs in advance if you are playing for a wedding, because not all genre and style combi’s give the result you expect, when teaching your band...
The Digitech Trio Band+ and the Boss RC-10R kinda make for a interesting comparison because they both tackle a similar concept in very, very different ways. When I was first looking at getting a pedal that could handle looping and rhythm in one unit, I tried the Digitech Trio Band+ and to be honest, I liked the idea but I found it very clumsy to use. It has a lot of functionality but some of that functionality slowed down the process a bit too much to be a sort of spur of the moment practice/composition/jamming tool. It is the kind of pedal that really needs you to sit down and hold its hand carefully through all the parts required and then you can step back from the controls and have fun playing. This isn't bad per se but it does kinda defeat the purpose of having it in a pedal form-factor. The other issue that kinda stood out when I tried one for a while was that it really, really needed the external footswitch to make the part system really work well. Not having a dedicated footswitch on the pedal to manage the parts made it really difficult to just enjoy the experience as I had to constantly bend down and push a button. It seems silly to complain about that but when you are playing guitar and really getting into it, having to stop and press a button on the pedal is kinda a buzzkill. In a lot of ways, the Trio pedal goes for complexity at the expense of control. It tries to pack a lot of stuff in a very small form factor and not always in a way that makes it a smooth creative/guitar playing process. Even when you use the external footswitch option, you still feel like Digitech should have thought things through a bit more and really focused on the experience of the guitarist who wants to play without having to stop and fuss with something too much. The RC-10R takes a different approach. It trades in some of the Trio's complexity but in the process, it becomes a lot faster and a lot more convenient to use. You don't get the bass parts in the rhythm portion but that also means you don't need to "teach" it the chords. You need only dial the drum sound you want and you are free to go from there. Likewise. You don't get five parts but since it only has two parts, you can easily switch between parts without having to stop playing. The other big thing is that it's pretty simple displays give you a very clear idea of where you are in not only the loops you have created but also where you are in a given rhythm part. It may not have the sheer level of functions built in but if you are looking for something that you can just hit some footswitches occasionally and focus instead on playing, that lack of functionality isn't really a issue and may even be a benefit. If there is one thing that both pedals need, it is more built-in footswitches. They both really do need external footswitches to really start working well but even with the extra footswitch pedal, the Trio+ is still too slow and clumsy to really use as a convenient jamming/composition tool. In comparison, when you plug the extra footswitch into the RC-10, it actually lets you choose the functions you want to map so you can quite effectively remove any of the issues that only having two built-in footswitches created on the pedal.
@@mahoganymarco9199 Fair enough. Mileage varies, as always. My opinion is based on specific downsides pointed out in the video - aspects of special importance to me. Glad your user experience is enjoyable. I ultimately opted for the RC 500, plus a Drumport LaserStomp 2-in-1.

True, true, true, and 10000% true. Thank you! The idea was really good creating a compact looper with high-quality sound, but the software /omg just look at their web page software that is a total mess so unfriendly and for creating a life session you need to know a lot of tricks, like for example, if you are trying to save tempo you need to record the first loop without playing, only after that you can start. cause if for god sake your song is 120 and you have made a mistake in playing and stopped the looper, the tempo would be 150 or 160 any random amount. well, so sad, really expansive and so useless.

I was looking at the Ditto x4 but read so many bad reviews about it.
Um try clicking on the rhythm button to start the drumming feature 👍🏻
Thanks... I've been waffling between this and the RC-3.. I now know the RC-3 will serve me better.. thanks mate
Glad I could help!! Hope you enjoy the RC-3!!
@@BenRowlandsMusic I'm thinkining more RC 30 now
I wanted to buy rc10-r, but everyone scolded him very much, especially the drums.
@@BenRowlandsMusic The best loop set, this is Aeros Loop Studio + BeatBuddy, this is the best in the world !!! But it costs more than $ 900.
Thanks... Are you saying the drums can’t go from heavy to light or they don’t have light drums at all?
Thank you! 😊 for saving me another hassle. Subbed
No problem! Thanks for joining the channel!!
SO>>>>>>> What is the BEST looper pedal????? Is the RC 300 still the best? I want to get one but I hate to waste money. What about the Headrush??? Is that the best?
- Manual not thick enough -> It's all online
- Intros too complex -> you can turn intros off, or you could just figure out the tempo from the fill
- Can't play drum track on its own -> yes you 100% can
- Can't adjust velocity of drums -> choose a different groove, out of literally 100s
So I take it you like the looper? I'm trying to find reassurance, because I just ordered one. O.O
@@PinchTune I agree 100% with Mr Samurai! :)
I thought that about the drum intro - if you can’t work out the tempo from that then you need to work on your timing.
Does this looper take a 9 volt adapter?
Nice. What’s the best looper if you want to switch between 2 or 3 sections of a song ?
i was thinking of getting this but after ur great info i think i am shying away what loop station do yo recommend
Wow, thanks! I almost bought this pedal a few minutes ago, no way now!
Which one is good in all RC looping models?
Yeah bud, the audience for this will certainly be someone brand new to looping, because it makes a whole lot of sense for newbies to buy a $300 looper, certainly not a Ditto or something.
Same price as a theoretically good Squire pretendocaster. Pricey for a newbie.
A lot of complaining about the manuel and fluffing his hair
If you get the manual online it's quite big
there is second manual Boss-RC-10R_parameter_eng01_W
I’m frustrated in the process of learning how to use and setup the Boss RC-10R rather than playing and enjoying.
@@JDDavidHi! ..which particular Boss dual footswitch are you talking about?
Thanks..
Hi Ben.
I am stuck between this pedal and the RC-3... Would love peoples opinions...
You know you can slow the drums way down right?
I think many people here just never had one, don't know how to use it but still saying " thank you, I'm saving a lot of money"
Strange i can do so much with this, great quality too
All you have to do is study the loop..find how to arrange it..its a good loop station actually…you can watch demos using the 10r loop station..its cool actually
Bad manual syndrome I’m very interested in midi I’d like to hook up a drum machine clock to the looper I don’t care about internal drum machine
@@BenRowlandsMusic Ah, thanks a lot for the suggestion! Do you have any thoughts on this vs the ditto x4?
Why oh why didn’t BOSS release a RC1000 at this year’s NAMM.. it’s what we want!!😫😂

Very useful, exactly what I needed to know!! anyone have any recommendations for an easy to use decent sounding drum pattern looper
what is your opinion on the DigiTech Trio +?
What’s the process for a singer songwriter starting a song w just acoustic guitar bringing the drums in down the road a bit?
Did I hear correctly that the drums only work while in record mode?
Thats' what I heard. That is incredibly stupid and REALLY hurts the intended usability
Not correct!! You can just use it as a drum machine.
@@mikehewett4393 i received mine in the mail. You can start a drum loop and get it to play as long as you want and also dial tempo in real time. this is a myth. its awesome. i play until i find a tempo and swing and then just play.
@@eltorpedo7774 And this is exactly why i changed from the trio + to the rc10.

Can boss be assign as control ext pedal of boss rc 10r?
I always download and check out the user manual before I buy a complex product. If the manual is no good I don't buy the product.
Good idea!
You are SO right... The manual realy sucks.... Enjoy your teaching my how to use it... Keep up the good work
3:43 (Complex intro patterns) "..seriously, what I am meant to do with that..." So true on this and many other products and sample libraries alike. Over the top! Fine, you don't have to use them but why not provide some simple and far more usable intro patterns too. [Sub'd]
Thanks for the comment and subscribing! Much appreciated!
Does anybody like this padal? What I wanted was a BeatBuddy that would loop, (one padal).
Thanks. Covered the essentials.
Mark Knopler once summed up this pedal regarding velocity on the song money for nothing; " he's banging on the bongos like a chimpanzee".
Thank you for this.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Does the pedal actually work with Midi?
The options are in the menu, to set it up. Just like on the RC-505. I’ve got a video coming out doing it, but the RC-10R isn’t 100% working right...
What a poor review. I appreciate him pointing out the faults, but what about hearing the pedal.
ok. i get your points... but haven't seen you using it... thnx anyway
Do you have a tutorial on how to put my own loops on this thing?
Thanks for the video, sorry my bad English. I suscribed ^-^ . Please tech me to use midi options in the videos that you mentioned ^-^ Thanks so much. God Bless you c:
If a young tech savvy player tells me it’s complicated....I’ve just saved a few bucks. Quite a few.

Did you go for anything in the end? Still trying to make my mind up.
Thanks buddy the lack of dynamics is a bit of a deal breaker. Cheers

What happens if I buy it without watching this?
The stick on feet sound like they must be far superior compared to it's predecessors? How's the battery life on this?
Oh wait!!!!
First ever looper? For someone new to looping?
I don't think so.
Hi Matt. Any tip for a first looper pedal?
Song writing minded jams is what is best at. Every complaint you have you followed with "yeah you can fix it". Not sure what you're getting on about.
what looper for a Epiphone Limited Edition Peter Frampton Les Paul Custom PRO Electric and a Taylor 114cedemotic looping and control of the sound effects
not demontic, acoustic
@@startrekmike Isn't the bass line what makes the Trio+ much more interesting than the RC-10?
Where’s the rest of Van Halen? 😄
