The RC-10R Rhythm Loop Station is a next-generation performance tool combining song-based looping and dynamic rhythms in a small footprint.
Jay Leonard J kindly explains the operation and practical use of RC-10R for live performance and songwriting sessions.
This instruction video contains 6 sections,
0:03 Introduction to the BOSS RC-10R Rhythm Loop Station
0:57 Introduction to the Rhythm Part
2:25 Adjusting the tempo and drum sounds
3:41 How to create a song
6:55 Practicing with the RC-10R
8:18 How to optimise your sound
9:12 Additional features and information
The RC-10R is ready to take on whatever music you play, from rock, pop, and acoustic to Latin, jazz, electronica, and beyond. There are over 280 onboard rhythm styles to choose from, all with natural, organic grooves to support your music. And if you don’t find what you need inside, simply import your own SMF rhythms with dedicated Mac/Windows software and store them in 50 user locations. Whatever style you choose, you can easily change the sonic flavor with 16 different kits, instantly transforming a groove from heavy rock to light percussion and everything in-between.
While the RC-10R’s loop and rhythm engines work together in complete harmony, they’re also designed to work just as well apart. You’re able to build two independent loops with no rhythmic backing at all, perfect for creating stripped-down song performances and evolving ambient soundscapes. It’s also possible to use the RC-10R as a foot-operated drum machine with real-time control over song sections and fills, making it an essential partner for stage accompaniment, jam sessions, and practice.

Man I loved those riffs! So funky bluesy and catchy! Attractive style to my ears. Anyway, this pedal appears to be the absolute freaking BEST looper in creation. Players have been dying to have a multi track looper for verses and choruses, instead of just repeating the same thing, but the boss rc 300 breaks the bank and is huge! So an actual song with a simple structure can actually be built with this rc10r! Im solddd and will start saving up to be a proud owner. Awesome demo!
Did you get this? Checking in 2 years later.
@@untamedgorealist So, I was going to get some kind of looper. I saw this and thought it was so cool! But then...I saw the Aeros Loop Studio which is even sicker! That was like $600 though so I was saving up for it. But then, I ended up getting and Axe Fx II XL+ (Yes even though the Axe Fx III is out, too expensive for features I dont even know how to use). And so, I'll go to my DAW, record the parts, activate the loop and just jam over it if I need to play over a repetitive melody or something. I wanted it for live stuff because I dont have a band.
But now! I realize... I can record all the instrumentals into my DAW myself and just play/sing along! Like record the rhythm guitars, drums, bass and harmony vox, and then live I actually just play live lead guitar (or vice versa I'll record leads and play rhythm)along with the instrumental track and sing! So instead of a repeating loop, I can just compose an entire song, bring my laptop, plug into the FOH speakers, and just play my guitar and sing along as a 1 man band as opposed to playing a loop over and over
@@brianleechee in short youre using a backing track. Sometimes some venues are against backing tracks and they want the muscian to perform everything live by looping. Some cruise lines allow backing tracks and some dont.
@@AchintyaSingh Yeah well, I'd probably get the Aeros Loop Studio for looping cause you can do like 6 tracks and switch between sections like verse chorus etc. But yeah if I record an instrumental, and play it through the monitors and sing and play over it like a backing track, I didnt know venues didnt like that
@eechee the reason why venues don't like backing tracks is there is no limit to how much layers/tracks you can put in a backing track. And sometimes even a bad player can get away by fake playing.. Even if he messes up strumming , the other tracks would still be playing and he might get unnoticed. Talking from an audience perspective also, they'll thing where is the keyboard , bass , drums sound coming from. But most of the people now know what a looper is, thanks to instagram. So everyone loves a looping guitarist who can do everything (drums, lead, rhythm ,singing) on his own that too live in front of them. It also elevates musicianship and set you apart from normal campfire guitarist. Cruise lines prefer looping solo musicians over normal strumming ones.
Dude is fire on the guitar.
That's our man Jay LeonardJ

@@BOSSinfoglobal Man, 😃, congratulations. He's incredible.
@@BOSSinfoglobal amo meu Boss rc10r pedal. Mas tbm como usuário do teclado Roland EX30, senti muita falta do Kit de bateria "Latin Drum Kit" que tem no EX30. Não tem como inserir esse kit numa possível atualização de firmware ?
Stayed only for Jay Leonard J! That man is a wonder...
I have on of these and I learned more about it from Jay in 10 minutes than in 2 months of fooling around with it. Yes I read the manual too.
fell out of my my chair swinging with that playing! BRAVO
I hope Jay finally gets the credit he deserves with this demo.
JayLeonardJ is on FIRE
Impressive! Packed full of options. Liking this new series. Jay was a good choice, he's a class act!

Jay Leonard J is an absolute beast of a player!
Fantastic product which expands the looping options (rhythm/guitar). Fantastic demo by the incredible JLeonardJ. No more playing scales only, making and playing music instead. Boss raised the bar
This may be the best instruction video I have seen on any equipment. I am impressed.
Awesome new Looper/Drum combo pedal! Well thought out features. Boss hits a home run with this one! This fellow did a great job demoing the BOSS RC-10R. I want one.
Everything you'll need for a good solo performance... I like ❤️
Great showcase of the pedal. Seems like an awesome tool, specially for practicing. Definetely looking forward to it.
That's amazing! This is exactly what I was waiting for
I already love this thing!
Just bought one. This video will help me get started much faster! Thanks man!
Nice and kinda revolutionary new stuff, hats off to Boss. Moreover, beside being a nice and clean faced person, Jay knows his business really well indeed, best guy choice!
Thank you, Jay, fantastic demo nicely illustrated, thank you from the UK
This guy's the man!
Two really cool things....
1. - One of the preset rhythms is 5/4, you can select a different inbuilt percussion kit to this to get several 5/4 patterns.
2. - You can record a sequence of chords and then change the tempo when playing back, this only changes the speed NOT the pitch so is great for recording some complicated chord sequence and increasing your tempo when playing along.
Loved it, can’t wait to see the new big brothers. A RC 505 with the same concept that would blow my mind
This is incredible, man I could use this!
Good demo! Really like the options on this pedal!!
I just spent an hour looping on Wicked Game - great fun - as I thought, this intro really helped me get into the key features so quickly.
The way he practices scales 🔥🔥
Great improvement on the rhythm/drum loops compared to the previous RC loop pedals.
Until you compare it to the Beat buddy, which was released 5 years prior.
Lovin' the look of that Jetking 2 to the right.
Really awesome demo and playing
Got those Cory Wong-esque chops at 4:48
Dude U shred, I've just bought an rc10 I love it
Very good demo JayLeonardJ... I've been watching you for a while demo different stuff... awesome energy and great descriptions... the first demo video I remember seeing was for the JHS Pulp n Peel v4... you totally sold me on that pedal as an orange squeezer yummy thing I just can't live without, haha.. keep up the excellent work, you are going to go far... your playing is quite spectacular as well.. -- we use your demos at out music store web site........
Very cool tutorial. Really nice groove too! Dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is AMAZING guitar work!
Gotta love Jay Leonard J
Nice demo TY!
This first funk drum rhythm is absolutely burnt into my mind.
This has been the best informative video tutorial on this devise that I've seen. Thanks. I would though, like to know more about adding a separate pedal.
Dang dude, sounds amazing!
Just picked in up, very intuitive out of the box, quality is glaring, highly pleased.
Awesome Demo.... gotta say bye to my rc3 pedal asap!
Fire playing
This is a great pedal. Can't wait to get my hands on one. He didn't sing in this video. I am glad.
Well done, first time I saw a 10 minute advertisement!
Great talent .
That was fire dude
Great Demo as Usual' Sir' Jay Leonard! And at $299_ Is Fair' For What This Compact Unit Provides!🎸🔊🎼Great Job Boss'
My boy made it to the BIG TIME!
GET IT, Jay!!!
The cringe time
I need one like now!
To my mind , It is already the best rhythm and loop pedal on that moment!
English please?
Great jam
Nice little box!!! :-)
Awesome pedal! Kind of a lot going on. Think it would take some practice getting used to it.
Yeah JayLeonard Jay!! 👏🏼😅
I like your videos, telecaster fan 🙌🏽 but that beautiful guitar on the right size looks pretty good to me
Nice work Boss! Very much looking forward to getting this. Would love it if you brought back the SL-20 Slicer in this form factor.
Smoking guitar playing!
Excellent! this could be the best loop pedal for performers/singers if boss had kept the mic input and tap tempo with foot pedal.
i cant wait to get one of these to match my gt1000!!
The rhythm section sounds very impressive. Even on this short demo I can tell it beats the offerings from Digitech and Beatbuddy.
sounds thin to me
DigiTech had bass AND drums
No way it beats BB
Easy! .... I just... MAY need to watch this video again...... like, a thousand times...😬
Best RC-10 Review on here if ya ask me....🎯
JayLeonardJ is the man! Good job getting him Boss!!!
I just might get this. Wondering if the tracks for loops can be different bar lengths from each other
Does it always do the outro thing when you turn it off? Can I use this to have an electronic beat in the intro of a rock song and have it cut off completely when the real drums come in?
Can you save loops?
awesome demo video !!! I only think it misses a bass line. at the moment I think Trio band + looper gives more tools for a loner guitarist that wants to give a live product with a full product
I dont know who is this guy but I like his style.
Jay Leonard J
On this looper, its always drums first, then layer on that. On other loopers the drums can follow your guitar part, But this is still nice. (and use an octave pedal to do a "bass" part..etc..
It probably comes down to preference. I have used pedals that follow your playing to establish a drum tempo but those tend to kinda slow down the process a bit. Having this set up the way it is lets you just set (or tap in) the tempo you want and have it locked in before you even get the whole process started.
Hello! Great job! Please let me know...is it possible to clear the loop and just keep the rythm part? Thanx in advance
Impressiv
Any patterns for latin jazz, congas etc?
i want one!!!
That....was ...smoooth..
No to presets. Trio+ for drums and looping or Sdrum for drums only. With either you play and they create the beat to match.
TBH, this looks better. I owned both the Trio + and the SDrum ... this is a lot more intuitive in my view. Plus the routing options are superior. The MIDI IO options, the ability to edit patterns, expression jack and etc will eventually have me selling my SDrum. This is a serious piece of kit that I will have to have ... UNLESS there is a version dropping that will let me have 5 song sections (I, V, C, B and O). like the SDrum... then it will be sold immediately...LOL
I'm hoping the don't announce an RC-30r shortly after I receive this one....
Get nasty Jay Leonard J!!
Hey, BOSS!
Can the RC-10R functions be externally MIDI-controlled? (i.e. with the ES-8 switcher)
Even paired with an external double-footswitch like the FS-6 or the FS-7, it seems I could NOT get the full potential from the RC-10R.
wow awesome. this will give the Singular Sound Beat Buddy and the Singular Sound Aeros Loop Station a run for their money since its all in one package and surely much less expensive. for most you dont need a 6 channel looper like the Aeros but wanted more than just what was on the original RC loopers. great jon. kudos for getting the right demo player to demo this
If this looper syncs up (midi) with the beatbuddy that would be awesome.
@@cfire99 well if you have this might not need the Beat Buddy for basic users who only need a smaller use case and are not pros
@@cfire99 The idea is that you wouldn't really use a beat buddy with this pedal because it handles both loops and rhythm.
Brilliant. I love the RC-3 but the 10 rhythm presets frustrate me. Great tool for improving your playing. Essential really.
hello 😊 in the RC-3 you can add your own rhythm created by yourself but it is absolutely necessary to convert the file to WAV and that it is a limited time as indicated I do not remember the duration of time, so you can assign a different type of rhythm by track, a friend has created 20 to have different rhythms!😉
I guess you could also play a drum machine into the Looper and do it that way! Thank you.
can we export into a computer the loops created on the rc10r??? is this some kind of rc3 with a dedicated drum "channel" ???? i was planning to get a rc3 ... now i'm a bit confuse ... i guess i'll wait a bit ... before cchoosing .... hummm ... .... ... ...
Jay L J 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Very nice job dude...so much so that after watching this I went and bought one today.....I have one quick question that I probably will figure out once I play with it more but Im lazy so I will see if I can get a quick answer from you...lol... So basically you press down the drum switch once and its starts playing a drum beat - then you find the beat you like and fine tune it...then you hit the switch once again and it starts playing pattern 2 of that beat you liked....now is when I get confused....hitting switch once more takes you into sync mode ( light turns blue) ...its seems like hitting the switch once does 3 different things ? pattern 1 / pattern 2 and sync mode-- how in the heck do I know in what sequence to hit the switch once? Maybe its late and Im being stupid ? LOL
Is it true bypass or buffered? How does it affect your tone within the board chain?
So it doesn't create bass lines like "Trio?"
no, but other vids out there, they use an octave pedal to record a bass section
I had a question about the intellectual properties rights of the drum loops. The user manual states that "The copyright of content in this product (the sound waveform data, style data, accompaniment patterns, phrase data, audio loops and image data) is reserved by Roland Corporation... Purchasers of this product are permitted to utilize said content (except song data such as Demo Songs) for the creating, performing, recording and distributing original musical works."
So imagine that I were to record a song using the drum loops on the pedal, and it made a bunch of money, does Roland get a share? What about licensing the music for film, tv, etc.?
I think you can put your own loops on it, don't quote me on that
@@BryWMac Yes you can.
When using the unit as a stand alone looper, why is there a delay in playback when stopping the loop for playback ? It doesn't come back on the 'ONE'. Why is that ? Makes the looper itself virtually useless.
Nice demo. Does it have headphone out ?
Great! Now I have to sell my RC-30!
do u think it's better then the rc-30? deciding on with to get
I wonder if the looper has a midi clock integration? I need to sync with an external drum machine. It's that possible?
Are the 2 tracks independent? Or is the recording time (for the second track) set by first take?
wow !!!! and can the boss RC-10R export recorded loops into a computer too???? .... i want one ... right NOW ... ;)
Great Video but I have a question. Can I run the drums and bass (via an octave pedal) to one output say to a sound system mixer but then run the the guitar through the second output to a guitar amp? If so this would be perfect for me. Thanks for your help! Tony
Wish it had a tap tempo switch insert and the rythem could track automatically to the loop side
Maybe the extra footswitch has tap tempo??? Once the bpm is set the loop syncs to come in on the beat at that tempo.....
There is a option to use tap tempo with a external footswitch.
Looks like Boss is taking aim at the BeatBuddy.
Is it possible to set various time signatures with this looper? The lack of this feature in Boss RC-3 made me choose the Jamman Solo XT over the Boss RC-3.
@bosschannel when you bring out a video about boss od 200?
In this video you say it’s possible to split the drum track off to a different output (amp, pa, etc) but I can’t work out how. I’ve tried using the stereo outputs but the drum track is on both. How do you do this?
Nice, deciding between this and the Rc 30, any thoughts?
What about pause / resume for rhythm?
track 2 is not completely deleted. Only the overlay is removed. There is no mention of this in the instructions.
Hi guys, after waiting since July I finally got to buy a RC-10R today. But I'm having a hard time with Rhythm Coverter software, it doesnt recognize the correct pattern in the Phrase Memory, instead it just shows the same pattern every time which is your factory default, the "Funk 8Beat" even though I have saved/written the phrase memory with a different pattern. It's very frustrating, I can't find any contact window at Boss website?? how am I supposed to get support?
Hey Jay what is the other unit your running through on the floor and what kind of amp are you using?
Boss Nextone amp with ga-fc foot controller
