It's too bad Harvey Keitel never came back for a sequel called "New York Knight".
When is the Next Godzilla Review?
@@dragondaveltd1992 😅
You know you are somebody when a company wants to sponsor you
NOO YAWK
This opened up many memories of a friend of mine constantly trying to get me to watch this movie but I never did even though I promised each time I would lol
The history channel will be using this as a documentary next month.
Hopefully they explain where Harvey Keitel's accent came from.
@@TheBrandonTenold Aliens, it was illegal aliens.
@hiddentruth1982
I'm pretty sure they already have.
@hiddentruth1982
I'm pretty sure they already have.
Hahaha no doubt. And my roommate will believe every word as scientific truth.
Well, just like Dr. Venkman said, "Every now and again, you'll get a good one, ET, Starman, but most of them turn out to be big lizards that want to eat us."
A left handed response to "V", perhaps?
Close encounters of the third crusade sounds like it would be an amazing movie.
Hopefully that one doesn't include any awkward comedy bits.
Have you ever seen The Visitor (1979)? It's not quite that, but it's close. A really fun bad-yet-awesome Italian knockoff that's trying to simultaneously be Close Encounters, The Omen, and a Jodorowsky head trip. Plus it has a surprisingly strong cast and a *primo* Italio-disco soundtrack, if that's your jam.
Sounds like im in for a treasure hunt, thanks dude very little motivates me these days.
It's a book, not a movie, but The High Crusade by Poul Anderson is exactly that.
Wait, Klaus isn't a villain in this movie? That's the most unbelievable thing in this movie, more than anything.
Nope meets Man of Steel meets Monty Python and the Holy Grail
"Close encounters of the third crusade" that was good.
At least it wasn't "Close Encounters of The Fourth Crusade." Those who know...know. 😭
Klaus is a brilliant method actor. He is always in character... as himself.
"Spaceman of La Mancha" would make a great alternate title for this movie.
Dude, that's hilarious!
"Close Encounters of the Third Crusade" 😄 😆 😅 😂 🤣 🤣
Apparently, Klaus Kinski wasn't the first choice to play in the movie. Other Hollywood actors were considered like Charlton Heston, Kirk Douglas, and Vincent Price. It was Price's agent who recommended Kinski to be in the film.
Wow... that's crazy. Then again, KK himself was a bit of a nut.
Maybe Price's agent knew Kinski was gonna be a problem & just wanted to fuck with the filmmakers?
@@TheBrandonTenold Who knows. Apparently, Price agreed to do it but had to pull out after having surgery.
@@TheBrandonTenold Wouldn't surprise me.
@@TheBrandonTenoldThat was my theory.
"That director is such a dick. God I hate him! I know what, I'll recommend he cast Klaus Kinski. That will teach him! Hahaha!"
No wonder the extraterrestrial looked familiar. Miguel Bosé is better known as a singer, not as an actor.
Let us see his body of work...
_The Heroes, Vera, un cuento cruel, Prisoner of Passion, Giovannino, Retrato de Familia, Il garofano rosso, Suspiria, Oedipus Orca, California, Sentados al borde de la mañana, con los pies colgando, Cosa de Locos, The Knight of the Dragon, En penumbra, The Miser, Lo más natural, Tacones Lejanos, La nuit sacrée, Mazeppa, La Reine Margot, Enciende mi pasión, French Twist, Amor digital, Libertarias, Oui,The Naked Eye, Lorca, El forastero, Guerra de Likes_
So yeah, he was active in film in the 70s and 80s. He was known for doing film stuff, not by you or me, but indeed he was known. I get it, his work is all over the place, not always on main roles with cameos here and there, but that was it.
That's like saying some guy nobody has ever heard of is better known as a nuclear physicist than as a hip-hop dancer. It doesn't matter what his profession is, nobody has ever heard of him.
The “spaceman” is Miguel Bose, an Italo/Spanish singer, son of Lucia Bose, a good actress, and a pretty famous (at the time) torero. Sort of the eighties cheesier Ricky Martin.
He is still famous although he got shunned after his stances on COVID.
I guess that explains why he looks like Sting/Billy Idol/David Bowie all at the same time.
Based and Covid-pilled@@TheBayzent
Seems he was also in Suspiria (1977)
Having Klaus on set reminds me of the stories of having Sonny on set for Predator
Except pretty sure Klaus was 10x crazier.
@@DemonKingBadger and Sonny never had sex with his daughter.
@@DemonKingBadgerHe was the Tyrese Gibson of his day 😊 😅 😂.
12:57 Poor man's David Bowie LOL
He's The Sovereign of The Guild of Calamitous Intent!
fun facts: the film was the most expensive production in spanish Cinema. The alien suit was designed by comic artists Alfonso Azpiri and Juan Gimenez. and original story was writing by Andreu Martin (a respected Noir-novelist, and comic writer9 Unfortunately his director Fernando Colomo was popular but he got just experience as comedy filmmaker so I think he couldn´t change the tone .
So did Harvey Keitel go to the Tony Curtis Black Shield of Falworth school of accents?
Yondah is the castle of my faddah
Star Games? Many, that is bad!
Don't worry for the Space Man. People had functional noses in the Middle Ages. Bathing was most definitely a thing. It's mostly the Victorian era wanting to feel superior that created that no-bathing myth.
The people in the middle ages actually believed that bad smells transport diseases, so yeah, people from the middle ages were not the ones not bathing and just pouring on perfumes, that era came later.
A lot of them didn't bathe very often because the popular misconception was that getting completely wet and not drying out quickly would get you sick (catch your death of cold) but that doesn't mean they didn't wash themselves when they needed to. Not as much as we do today, but they stayed clean enough.
Klaus Kinski has the distinction of playing both Renfield & Dracula in
two separate films.
Kinski was Renfield in Jesús Franco's
*"Bram Stoker's Count Dracula"*
(1970) which starred Hammer's Dracula
Christopher Lee reprising his role as
the titular character (who now has a
moustache in this version, much like
how the character was described in the
Bram Stoker novel).
Kinski later played Dracula in
Werner Herzog's *"Nosferatu: Phantom*
*of the Night"* (1979), the first remake
of F. W. Murnau's 1922 horror classic,
soon to be followed by a second remake
in Christmas 2024.
Don’t forget the sideways retelling of nosferastu with willem Defoe “shadow of the vampire.”
9:14 Considering the bizarre nature of the encounter, day-for-night kinda works for me here.
Yes! I watched my fair share Z movies, and I find day for night can be creepy
"First Encounters of the Third Crusade" was a joke worth a like.
Hey, Brandon liked it! Btw, Brandon, on the weird tone of this, it kinda makes sense when you realise some behind the scenes stuff on the film: for starters this was directed by Fernando Colomo, a Spanish director more known for his part in he "comedia madrileña" genre (the closest thing to this for an Anglo I can think of is urban comedies on city slicker party intellectual types a la Woody Allen or the more yuppy and urban part of John Hughes's output, and although there is no full confirmation, what we DO known on the behind the scenes, Colomo started with Imanol Arias who is a legit REAL actor but also worked a little with Colomo in the "comedia", but during pre-production Colomo changed his mind on the alien and though he needed a more androgynous look, and enter our friend Bowie-Sting-Idol her (this is not a smoking gun, but it does make one think he might have tried this film as an exit from his safe place, but couldn't avoid falling into comedy mode, and then tried to fix that before finished product, but still couldn't shake his usual style off).
So imagine Woody Allen trying to do "Match Point" or "Cassandra's Dream" but it coming out more like "Love and Death" or Hughes trying to turn his "Just Visiting" script into a not full-blow comedy.
WHA--? Kinski being an arrogant asshole to everyone on set?
In other words, it's [insert day of the week here] 🤣
And if what he supposedly did to his daughters is true, then being an arrogant asshole on set is one of his more positive qualities in comparison.
This reminds me of that old D&D campaign where the players find a crashed UFO!
Always a good day when Brandon posts a new video.
Close encounters of the third crusade! that line is so good
"Money well spent." What a great accent. Could've fooled me. But can he recognise different types of trees from quite a long way away? Can you? Fantastic video, as always.
Saw this not too long ago on a Sci Fi streaming service. The picture quality was a lot better than this DVD release. Also, I think the Star Knight got the horse, lance and shield from the Green Knight. I'm pretty sure there is a scene near the end where he approaches him before his confrontation with Harvey Keitel.
That wasn't in my version. Maybe you saw the director's cut?
It’s definitely the horse and shield the green knight had earlier, so it makes sense that some version had a scene for that.
Thanks. Harvey seems unable to shake that accent, "hey, I'm swashbucklin' OVA HEEEAH!!" 😅
I think the biggest surprise is that Klaus actually played a genuinely helpful character this time around.
Dang, you have a whole material for more future episodes with that bargain sci-fi DVD! 😉🙂
You don't cut off the Green Knight's arms and legs. You cut off his head. There's still no gore though, he just picks it up and walks away.
😆
I was kinda reminded of the kids tv show Knightmare for the scenes in the alien ship interiors.
I think I remember that show and it being kind of a neat idea, being a kind of TV fantasy role playing game show
The Green Knight is actually a piece of Arthurian lore
Back in the mid eighties, my brother decided to rent Star Wars for his birthday. He had wanted to watch it forever. So had I. We had to rent the VCR as well, so we only got to rent on our birthdays. The Doofus rented this by accident, as the Danish title translate to Star Warrior. That was a bit of a disappointment for 11 year old me. As it happened, I was an adult, when I finally saw a Star Wars movie. By then, I had probably watched at least ten Kinski-films. I do actually like Star Knight.
i see Klus Kinski in the credits and im thinking, uh oh nightmare actor
Nightmare person all round.
@@andrewbyrne2173 exactly
@@andrewbyrne2173I say the same thing about Tyrese Gibson 😊😅😂.
"Liquid Gold"....Does he mean Estus.....
Outlander did this idea the best. Vikings and sci-fi. AND an amazing monster.
Yeah, this movie reminded me of that one. LOL.
Lead into gold?
“Well here at Muppet labs we’ve done the next best thing! Turn gold into cottage cheese!…” -DrHoneydew
Liquid Gold outer space tea
haha my head went straight to Spiffing Brit when I heard that
Ok, the Bad Lieutenant joke nearly made me choke on my drink.
That scene where the goat gets abducted should have the moon theme from the duck tales game playing over it.
Always happy to see your vids
There's a strong Aeldari meets Gigeresque vibe in the ship and space suit design. Pity we don't get a better look at it.
A sequel following Keitel and the advisor in space would have been a hoot. Something like Battle for the Stars, teaming up with other galactic misfits.
1:57 Hey! I got that same bargain box set!
HAHAHA! "Yonduh lies da castle of my fadder..." Eat your heart out, Tony Curtis!
¡Oh my god! I never thought I would see Miguel Bose on this channel xD I knew he acted a lot in that time, but I never got over the fact that he acted in an English-speaking film. He is most known for being an Spanish/ Italo singer and songwritter, very popular in the 80s and early 90s. In fact, is fun that you call him a poor man's David Bowie, cause in that time he was trying to emulate his image, even the cover of one of his albums is very similar to "Aladdin Sane".
Thank you for this gem. Ive been waiting for this upload 😁
lol
"..better than War of the Robots." That bar is so low Brad Williams could pole vault over it....
They should print that on the DVD case. It won't get any more praise than that.
Never heard of this one
David Bowie? I was thinking more like Vanilla Ice.
HEY! I've missed you! Love the content. As usual.
"And now to go back to normal with an obscure foreign movie almost nobody's ever heard of."
[frantically points at the Star Knight poster like Leonado DiCaprio]
One of the few movies on my copy of Sci-Fi Invasion that would not play. Good to know I didn't miss much. 2008's Outlander presents a similar premise incorporating the legend of Beowulf.
They are *not* abducting goats. They're capturing war-brides.
About time for “Werewolves on Wheels”or “Children don’t play with dead things”
Actually, it's "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things."
@@michaelchoman1625 Good catch......turd.
The buffalowing-sauce joke got me good XD
That was Keitel's obscure but interesting movies era - like That's The Way of The World. A movie about the music business made by the producer of Super Fly, co-starring Earth, Wind and Fire, was the source of the song "Shining Star" and has Bert Parks as a pervert.
Medieval martial arts? Dana hold my beer
Well, this was...bizarre. I don't think I've ever heard of this one. I will say, the fact that this has Harvey Keitel playing a Knight does have me curious to watch it, that and the special effects and set designs. I do wish the story was interesting like the concept.
Klause's character name is Boetius, a pretty well known philosopher.
Hey, I watched this one on a low-cost cable channel!
5:39 Also, "Close Encounters of the Third Crusade" actually sounds like a fun VHS movie. 😂
"Are ye talking to me?" Jeez 😂
Funny that Klaus Kinski passed on the role of Gestapo agent Major Arnold Toht in Raiders of the Lost Ark but accepted this gem.
Literally the first thing I see when googling Klaus is a article about him called THE TERRIFYING REIGN OF HOLLYWOODS MOST EVIL ACTOR EVER😮😅
yeah. He's um... problematic...
@@carn9507Just like Tyrese Gibson 😊😅😂.
Oh man, I remember seeing this movie on late night cable in the 90s. Never saw it again or any mention of it but it always had vague memories of it.
I remember watching this movie as part of tracking down and watching every bad 80s sword and sorcery b-movie I could find. I loved the concept, it definitely had a much better budget than those (iirc it was the biggest budget movie ever made in Spain at the time) but the execution was subpar. Still better than some I watched at the time.
Awesome new update video ❤
I remenber watching this on tv on the 80's, and I loved it hahaa! I've recetly re-watched it and laughed a lot !!!
Great Video!
Kinski's face has been described as being a skull beneath a skull. With looks like that he was born to play villains (he was perfect as Count Orlok in the remake of Nosferatu).
the noise the Spaceman made reminded me of both the theme from the 80's version of the Twilight Zone & its sister show Tales from the Darkside.
It could be called " A Brooklynite in King Arthur's court."
I don't know which is worse, harvey playing a medieval knight, or costner playing robin hood.
Harvey Keitel must be proud of this one.
1:52 A goldmine of future episodes! 2:41 As part of their ongoing prank war.
8:19 "There's a Staaaaarrrrr MAAAAAAAAN waiting in the Sky! He'd like to come and meet us, but he thinks he'll blow our minds!"
10:26 I did, years before coming here, and I WISH I didn't. [pukes] 14:03 And play the Devil in "Little Nicky"
It could have been titled ," A Brooklyn Knight in King Arthur Court (Without King Arthur).
This movie was a comedy, I have the same 50 sci-fi movie pack, and Harvey Keitel did talk about this movie. Harvey read his lines in his NY accent because he was pissed at the director. Keitel is fun to watch in this movie.
Thank you Brandon.
FX was amazingly good for a 85 movie. Especially one produced in Spain. They didn't have a reputation for high end special effects
I like the look and concept of the movie, the space suit was cool
"Close Encounters of the Third Crusade." Very nice.
This sat on the Blockbuster shelf for many years!
I don’t think the term “arrest them” was around in the Medieval times 😂😂😂
......Ice Pirates....we need to see Ice Pirates
If you want a movie with an alien visiting earth in medieval-ish times, i recommend Outlander (2008) instead.
Just found the sci fi invasion 50 movie deal in the local goodwill! $4.29!
"close encounters of the 3rd crusade".
I'd watch that.
Just a plug for the algorithm!
Thanks Brandon Tenold!
Peace from a fellow Canuck.
BTW go Oilers!!!!
so now i know what the gritty 80's european remake of a spaceman in king arthur's court (aka unidentified flying oddball) is like
Obscure enough that I never watched it, not obscure enough for me to have never seen that cover design in video libraries, but passed on it.
IX is also a planet in Dune, so the joke works even better.
Funny you make reference to Sting in _Dune_ when one of the characters in this is named “Ix” which is the name of a planet in the Duneiverse.
City of industry, Is one of Harvey cartels. A very hard core action - revenge movie. A must recommend movie you should watch. My great inspiring wisdom for today. Have a great fabulous wonderful day.😀
Imagine a series of Alien visiting different ages on Earth?👽
"Are ye talking to me?" was no accident.
Miguel Bose is one of the most famous Spanish singers... It would be like calling Sting some "popular pop singer"
Coming form a horror con to watching this man today was a good day
Damn I never thougth I would see the iconic hispanic singer Miguel Bose on a Brandon's episode
Klaus didn't even know he was in a movie. That was just Klaus doing Klaus s**t.
He was the Tyrese Gibson of his day 😊 😅 😂.
Honestly who would not want to throw a goat up into the air?
