I wonder if they'll ever make a horror movie someday called "Slash Em' Up"?
Isn’t that just Scream?
Now streaming on Tubi…
Shart Em' Up oops to late
Seriously Hollywood's being dumbasses again. But this movie Blast Em Up I love it I love science fiction and animation. In that movie Blast Em Up sounds like a key opening the lock of my heart. I'm in.
"Cut Em' Up"
Would be a genuinely great title for an early Peter Jackson-esque splatstick movie.
I love how this movie is really just an extended, ultra violent Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd cartoon.
I always described it has a live action Bugs Bunny carton on PCP filmed by early 90s John Woo.
This is basically what Loonatics should have been.
Gaddamit. NOW, the entire plot makes sense to me. Thanks very much for the explanation.
The reason why lucky number sleven is way better
As was smoking aces
This film reminds me what David Letterman said about "Beavis & Butthead":
"It's relentlessly stupid to the point of sheer brilliance."
I consider this movie the ultimate proof that "good movie" and "entertaining movie" can be diametrically opposed.
@@jliller True. "Stalingrad" (1993) is a very good film and I've seen it twice. Both times I wanted to throw myself off a bridge when it was over.
@@Shadowman4710Three times I've seen Ashford die in The Expanse.
Three times I've felt sad all day afterwards.
I've only ever been able to play RDR2 the once. 😢
I think I also read Sir Patrick Stewart say, "Both the very smart and very stupid love 'Beavis & Butt-Head' for very different reasons."
"He's Frank White Castle?!"
I wasn't prepared for that one, good thing I wasn't eating or drinking anything.
"Why couldn't the real Max Payne movie be like this?" Because that would require imagination and letting the people behind the game do their thing?!
the movie sucked
they took a few minutes of a
DRUGGED OUT LUNATIC
ranting about
VOODOO & DEMONS

made the movie about that
I've beaten both
MAX PAYNE games
on PS2
along with
DEAD TO RIGHTS
THE THING
HALF LIFE
GTA 3
GTA VICE CITY
GTA SAN ANDREAS
any random scenes
from those games
would've been better than
the MAX PAYNE movie
Paul Gianatti is one hell of a villain.
Yeah considering he is rhino from the amazing spiderman 2
Yeah , just watch his Cameo in 12 years a slave , he was diabolical
My first time seing this guy as a serious villain was from Big Fat Liar despite it being a comedy.
He also voices an ANIMATED “ Dr Satan” in The Haunted World of El Superbeasto
Yup. His latest turn in the most recent season of 30 Coins was just pure scene chewing glory.
Paul Giamatti is so fucking good in every thing he does.
This is basically an 80's/90's movie made in the late 2000's. And I absolutely love it
Loads of action, a guy kills people with a carrot, Paul Giamatti as the villain. Monica Bellucci being super hot, what else do you need?
We need an 80s style Hong Kong girls with guns movie with Jennifer Lawrence and Margot Robbie for instance.
@@Scatscar1985you mean like "THE HEROIC TRIO" or "THE EXECUTIONERS"?
SIGN ME UP!😂
Paul Giamatti is channeling Kurtwood Smith as Clarence Boddicker, but somehow even more weaselly. It's great.
Dialed up to 12
Clive Owen using an oil slick as a slip 'n' slide of death while Nirvana's Breed plays in the background instantly made this one of my favorite action movies.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's nearly impossible to explain the appeal of Paul Giamatti's character in this movie to people who haven't seen it.
"Paul Giamatti as a wise-cracking hitman."
Is *such* a hard sell... but by god? It works in practice.
No wonder why Elmer Fudd though he could take on Batman.
Like I said, Paul Giamatti might not be the first guy you think of to play a bad guy in an action flick, but he gives my favorite performance in the movie.
@@TheBrandonTenold
Yep. He might not have the physicality down but he's got the persona *on lock* for sure.
What it is is like Paul is a very underrated villain actor so much so I would honestly only classify him as like Philip Seymour Hoffman as sort of like the sleeper villian. Like everyone expects james bond like straight up pierce brosnan level shiz but its really him who's the "jason bourne" the "jack reacher" the "james bond".
@@TheBrandonTenold hey Brandon Can you re-upload Godzilla VS
MechaGodzilla 2 review? because It’s here blocked Saudi Arabia can you re-upload it please?😢
By the way, this video (Godzilla vs mechagodzilla 2) was my favourite video you did
This is what a Punisher(Marvel Comics) movie should've been like.
Absolutely
Did you not see Punisher Warzone? It was basically this…
@@ab5olut3zero95 But not as good.
Eh...punisher war zone? There. You see frank kill parkour jerks with a bazooka. And a guy buried on broken glass before the first hour. So....yeah. go watch it
The Punisher doesn't have the sense of humour.
Strange how these mid-budget Hong Kong/Bollywood inspired Hollywood actioners seemed to pop up every year in the mid-2000's until they almost disappeared with the advent of bloated super-high budget tentpoles. Movies like Shoot Em' Up are kinda surviving on VOD platforms nowadays.
Sadly, most of them disappeared from theaters because many of them (like this one) didn't do well at the box office.
Lucky Number Slevin was up there with Shoot Em up as best movies of this era that flopped
@@montgomeryfitzpatrick473 Yeah I remember being mad at myself for not seeing Slevin in theaters. I thought the name was so stupid and it kinda had bad trailers. But I saw it free on hbo or something and loved it. So I got mad I didn't support it.
Fun "fact": the baby in this movie would later work with Paul Giamatti again in "The Holdovers".
You can't be serious
@@mateussalvador2103I hope he is.
@noneyobidness3253 they used 3 babies in shoot em up. (Child labor laws) I'm not seeing their names in the cast list for the holdovers
You're going to hell because that's a lie.
Now I have a reason to watch that
If you crossed Frank Castle with Bugs Bunny, you'd get Smith. And Hertz is like a sleazy Yosemite Sam. This flick is a nasty, bone-crunching action MASTERPIECE.
5:56 Fun fact; the henchmen who gets shot in the ass is played by Scot McCord, who'd later go on to voice Owen and Trent in the _Total Drama_ series.
Paul Giamatti just steals the show in this one.
First Space Ice, now Brandon. All right, now I have to watch this movie. Not only that, kudos to both channels for advertising Blast Em' Up.
… coincidence or conspiracy?
I fucking love Space Ice lmao he's like the RUclips equivalent of that one image of the weirdo with shades rambling to some random chick at a baseball game
@@jorts_master69...is the mega blockbuster hit movie where he gave his fans what they want
Sifu: Schoolgirls.
WHAT THE FUCK?? NO!!!!
Get me every time.
Ah fellow Space Ice viewer's 😊🎉
One of the most underrated action films of all time.
Surprisingly for a film like this, most critical reviews were positive. Roger Ebert gave it 3 1/2 stars (out of four: the second best grade he could give.) He had a great quote about it:
"I may disapprove of a movie for going too far, and yet have a sneaky regard for a movie that goes much, much further than merely 'too far.'"
@@Talisguy Shoot Em Up is a film that's no masterpiece, but it's still a pretty entertaining and fun film. I for some reason was allowed to watch it when I was only 9 years old.
I think giving the best one-liners to the bad guy was a stroke of genius because the good guy always has the best ones.
Mr. Smith's obsession with carrots, while strange at first, makes a lot of sense when you consider the fact that carrots help improve your eyesight.
It's no wonder the guy is so skilled with his shots.
Slight myth. They help you maintain your current eye sight, not improve it.
Plot twist: Monica sees that bit at the end, laughs, and then complains somewhere that Brandon never even tried to call her.
This movie is a guilty pleasure for my wife and I. We saw it together on a date before we were married. It's just ridiculous fun. Great video.
Goddamn lost it at Frank Whitecastle
Automatic like for Brandon.
When this was playing at the cinema I worked at, I and one of the managers were waiting outside of the auditorium it was playing in to clean it when the movie finished, this nice elderly couple came out, and when I asked them if they enjoyed the movie, the lady said, "Yes. But, there really wasn't much of a plot." The manager replied with a slightly bemused look on his face, "You're expecting a plot? From a movie called SHOOT 'EM UP?" The lady chuckled and said "Fair point." I did see this when it was playing there, and really liked it. It was fun, and that's all that matters.
I remember when I found an ex-Hollywood Video DVD copy of this at a Pawn Shop for 75 cents.
Perhaps the best 75 cents I ever spent at a pawn shop. :)
The movie that brought us two Mythbusters episodes!
This movie is done in the greatest tradition of the 1980s action movie .Mr Smith straight beast mode.
Michael Davis is the GOAT. Interviewed him last week.
He won me over as he explained his solo venture and eschewing hollyweird. I'll be watching. Sadly, modern films have no soul anymore.
@@stillcantbesilencedevennowThe animation style sort of reminds me those bizarre late 90s early 00s CG cartoons that feel like a fever dream when you remember it later.
Shoot 'em Up was a fun, over-the-top movie. It's what's missing these days.
this movie is on my top 5 best action movies of all time with the best one liners
😂😂😂 BWAH-HAH-HA, Frank Whitecastle 😂😂😂
That was funny
Paul Giamatti does a funny bad guy, the Bugs Bunny jokes are a chefs kiss!
Fun fact the main henchman was played by Greg Bryk who played the villain Joseph Seed in Far Cry 5
I remember this film😂 Back in Nigeria, my friends in secondary school talked about it so much. When I finally saw it on DVD, it was a fun experience. Though I genuinely don't remember any of the "mature" scenes as I was more focused on the ridiculous action back then😂
That line about the baby going to sleep when metal music plays works especially well with me. My parents have told me that if they played metal and industrial music at a low volume when I was a baby, the white noise it would put me right to sleep.
Nice to see a more modern movie review, considering the majority of the reviews of 70s, 80s, and 90s movies
Yeah, but remember 2007 is now 17 years ago!
@@TheBrandonTenold and Godzilla 2014 came out 10 years ago now, time really doe fly
@GoodBadFlicks did an episode on this movie a few years ago. In it, he says the writers and directors wanted a John Woo Looney Tunes movie. Mission accomplished, doc!
Yes, fuck Yes! Thank you Brandon for reviewing this genuine hidden gem. I took my Dad to the theatre upon it's release date, and when AC/DC's If you want blood started playing after Smith shot the senator in the head, my Dad and I were as one. Badass awesomeness through and through. 💪
Steven Seagal's Body Double and Snarky Canadian upload same Shoot Em Up? Truly magnifico!
...is the Steven Seagal mega blockbuster hit movie where he showed the world...
The Movie thats a Violent Bugs Bunny Cartoon
I remember going to see this in theater, was so great, everyone was crackin up.
I loved this movie so much back when I was a teen, I can't thank you enough Mr. Davis.
Also, thanks to Brandon too for covering this.
When he punched the carrot through that guy's neck, Owen's line should've been "That's one of your five-a-day!"
"Dead? I don't carrot all."
I would have gone with “that’s what happens when you don’t eat your vegetables!”.
"shouldve had a v8" *bonks*
Fantasticly daft film. Paul Giamatti really chewing up the scenery here!
The driver is played by Julian Richings, who played Death in Supernatural
7:41 Moisturise Me! Moisturise Me!
Ahh, a Doctor Who reference. At least it's from the good Who and not the "Who Cares" era
@@danielseelye6005 heh heh! "Who Cares" era.. ain't that the truth. Anyone else think the Doctor died on Christmas?
Man, first Space Ice and then literally hours later you upload it too! I love this move, and my favorite part is pretty much Paul Giammati
Saw this in theaters and loved it. Such a fun and ridiculous movie, so much fun.
Not only did Giamatti nail this, it's my favorite movie of his I've seen to date. I liked him before, but once I saw this I was a Fan :D
Looking forward to Blast 'Em Up!
As I recall the creator made a full storyboard script of all the action scenes and combining Looney Tunes antics. Great combo. [edit] Example:
Clive Owen - Buggs Bunny
Paul Giamatti - Elmer Fudd
Stephen McHattie - Foghorn Leghorn
Greg Bryk - Daffy Duck
And so on...
Monica is Basically Lola Bunny
R rated loony toons cartoon was exactly the working thesis of the movie - they modeled the main character on Bugs Bunny, and that’s why he has the carrot fixation.
1:39 This is one of the reasons why I love Hardcore Henry.
I bought a DVD of this film in a charity shop last year without ever hearing of it before hand, suffice to say I was not disappointed and I have loved every second of it the two times I've watched it so far.
It actually makes a great double bill with Akira accompanied with a glass of Jack Daniels and Coke.
"Shoot 'Em Up" would've made for a great late 2000s video game, specifically on the Xbox 360.
She would’ve been my choice as well Brandon. Amazing actress, you mentioned Irreversible, holy shit that is a difficult in the extreme scene and she was phenomenal but that is a hard scene.
I have loved this woman since I was a young lad. When I first saw her I thought she was an angel. The most beautiful woman I had ever seen. As I got older and saw her other films I learned to appreciate how amazing an actor she is. She seems like just a nice person as well. Someone fun to hang out with.
As always excellent video. I so look forward to your reviews.
The warehouse fight while "Ace of Spades" is playing is possibly my favorite action set piece of all time, capped off by the "Do we really suck, or is this guy really that good?" quote.
Ohhh, zombie strippers my favorite scene is the mexican janitor. It's Paco time! 😄
A salute to your tenacity Michael Davis. I hope the Blast 'em up campaign is fruitful. 👍🏾
Well Jack Frost did something else with a carrot tho
I remember when this film came out I got it on DVD still and I love it to this day
I love this movie. Pointless violence the whole way through. It was great!
I...LOVED the hell out of this movie.
Rare seeing a movie from the 21st century on Brandon's channel.
No surprise, this is an R rated Looney Tunes action movie. I mean, Mad Max: Fury Road is a gigantic Road Runner Cartoon. Also, I wouldn't say Paul Giamatti is Wiley Coyote; more like a psychotic Daffy Duck.
or Elmer Fudd.
@jasongradyphstiger6179 🤔Actually, that is a better analogy. After all, Clive's character is obviously Bugs Bunny.
"Be vewy vewy quiet. *I'm hunting Clive Owens!* "
The guy who does your art work nails it every time he is great
This movie is ridiculous and i love it
I’ll repeat my request for the original version of The Blob.
It’s definitely an modern cult classic and I really enjoy it
Need to do a video review of Hardcore Henry!
Mythbusters ALSO did the hand in the fire with bullets thing. I think both were more 'It'd be fun to see what'd take to do this' than going 'See, it can't be done!' Which I think a lot of people don't realize Mythbusters did more often than not. It's like blowing up the cement truck, then standing in the crater, giggling, and admitting 'This had nothing to do with testing the myth.' They just had fun, like this movie.
"Hey, did you know carrots are good for your eyesight?"
14:05
"You lied to me."
Thanks for the Stephen McHattie shout out! My 1st taste of his talent was in Pontypool and I can't get enough :)
Everyone worships the ground John Wick walks on but they always forget this came first
And equilibrium was before this movie
@@JB-ym4upKurt Whimer also wrote The Beekeeper.
Irrelevant.
This is probably the greatest John Woo movie, which isn't directed by John Woo himself.
Whoa... Grandpa taught himself early PS2 CGI... Unless he finds himself someone who's good at Unreal Engine 5, that's going to be a tough sale...
Paul Giamatti made this movie for me! Perfect bad guy for a tongue-in-cheek action movie.
Michael Davis just became a new personal hero of mine, holy shit if he can teach himself 3d animation, then I sure as shit can teach myself how to make comics.
I have no regrets seeing this in theaters when it came out. Lot of fun it was. We don't get a lot of these 80s-90s inspired pew-pew movies much these days. Good ones at least.
While it might not be a great movie it's definitely a fun movie.
I never expected to see Brandon review a movie like Shoot'em Up. This movie was so insane and messed up, it was great. Kinda like All Star Goddamm Batman.😂👍💯
Holy shit, I've actually seen this movie. My brother in law was goin thru a Clive Owen phase
"Frank White Castle" = pure gold.
I was just thinking about this movie in the past two days but the title escaped me (in my head I was comparing this to "Boy Kills World", which I have yet to see, in regards to how insane the action and violence looked). I'm glad it's now getting the love it deserves.
This is an extremely fun goofy violent movie.
"See? Told ya!" - The ultimate Shoot Em Up review.
Finally, a flick that is way over the top, but at least compelling and interesting to watch. This one’s a winner.
I never knew I needed something so much as this video without actually knowing I needed it.
Such an underrated popcorn flick. Love this movie for the seer amounts of insanity it brings to the table. 👍
A ballet of bullets. A cascade of carrots. An opera of okra. A symphony of salsify. A revue of rutabagas.
Farmer Smith in Chew ‘Em Up
This still one of my favorite movies, even though I truly haven't watched it since I saw it in the theater. I think this was terribly underrated when it came out, especially since I was one of only 4 people in the theater at the time. Great acting/dialogue, fun plot, awesome soundtrack.
WTF was the fever dream of the last 7 minuets of this video? was it a spoof? a shameless plug? a LSD fuled ad from all the garbage i watch?
Love this movie. Best Action movie within the last 20 years
This is an example of a movie delivering exactly what it promised in the title.
Frank White Castle... Pure genius 🤣
Only Clive Owen can make the line “eat your vegetables” sound badass and ridiculous.
Space Ice just dropped a video about this movie yesterday? Space & Brandon same person confirmed!
Space Ice being Brandon's second channel would be hilarious.
"Space Ice is
the-Me-ga-blockbuster hit channel
where Brandon showed-the-north
that Steven Segeal was an ape...Kind of."
@@Dendarang That would be a plot twist I didn't see coming.
Being smart-ass dissed by Michael Davis is a goal in life most of us can only dream about.
Congratulations, Branduh!
One of my favourite films ever
