    This was surprisingly one of the trickier Histories videos, as Lou's appearances are basically all random jokes. And there's so many of them! So I kinda organized the back half into general topics 🤣

      I knew for years, but always found it weird since he was the ONLY resident in Springfield that had them. I can't tell if he's supposed to be muscular or those are tumors. They're a weird design choice if no one else in the series ever had them. Unrelated, Princess Toadstool in the SMBSS cartoon had them and that also weirded me out as a kid.

    I would love to see some Comic Book Guy lore. It always baffled me how he's both viewed as one of the biggest losses in Springfield, but also one of the most successful people. He has his own business, plenty of disposing income for his hobbies (like binge eating and collecting rare memorabilia) and is considered one of the smartest people in town. Yet he's so spiteful and nihilistic that he's can't stand to be around people, and people feel the same about him.

    • @Bellicosy
      @Bellicosy 6 месяцев назад +1

      Comic Book Guy has recently came into my mind. I noticed that he's often conveniently depicted as a fat, lazy slob who wastes his life consuming junk food and engaging in niche hobbies, but that he also has a pristine and immaculately organised little shop; would never dare dirty his own collectibles or allow customers to do so.

    Definitely an odd pick, but I think a Simpsons Histories on Dolph would be kinda neat. The other school bullies all have something about them, with Nelson being one of the most prominent non-Simpson kids in the series, Jimbo being the “leader” of the trio and (iirc) delivering most of the jokes from those three, and Kearney has all the absurd “lore” about his age, son, etc. Meanwhile Dolph is just kinda there, never really having any jokes or moments that don’t involve the other two (again, iirc, don’t remember every episode), and hardly does much anyways while Jimbo or Kearney get most of the spotlight.
    Awesome work as always btw! These vids have been a lotta fun to binge watch and really gotten me back into The Simpsons! Can’t wait to see what you’ve got next! :]

    • @ciarangleeson2880

    I am once again vouching for a Histories on Mr. Dewey Largo, he is so non-existent in Simpsons discussion to me. Nobody ever brings up their favorite Mr. Largo moments. Hell, does he even have many notable moments outside of “Nobody likes Milhouse” and “This is not a dream”?
    Also, not a Histories recommendation, but I’ve been interested in this idea for a video where you look at the relationships between the members of the Be Sharps. I’d be really cool if you took a look at the dynamics between Homer, Apu, Skinner and Barney (and Wiggum, if you wanna go there) both during their barbershop days and beyond.

    • @jessaminemanchester
      @jessaminemanchester 6 месяцев назад +13

      Mr. Largo could also be an interesting character study because much like Smithers he's another character they'd throw any tangentially-LGBTQ related joke towards (mostly gay but a few trans) at a much lesser degree. I haven't noticed as many in the recent years so I don't know if all the examples I can think of are from an era but it's interesting to consider

      it's also weird cause he's in the intro of the show from the beginning and thus was one of the first characters we saw yet he's so minor he doesn't appear too often and it's easy to forget he's even meant to be a notable character sometimes, and yet an outsider might think he's lisa's teacher instead of miss hoover if they didn't see too many episodes.

    • @ZiggyMandarr
      @ZiggyMandarr 6 месяцев назад +2

      Be Sharpes video would be great. You get the sense Apu and Homer are very chummy, and it makes sense if you take that history into account. Skinner is the exact opposite. It's like Skinner was there purely in a professional capacity and now he and Homer are indifferent to one another.
      Probably doesn't help Homer's son is Skinner's largest nuisance.

    Just thought of a Simpsons Mysteries idea I'd like to share! What exactly IS Krusty the Clown's show? We've seen it as a public TV kids show with a clown host, a la Bozo the Clown, but we've also seen him do lots of adult material with adult audiences; His adult stand-up, or when Bart becomes the "I Didn't Do It" boy, the show is suddenly like SNL or a variety show with a fully adult audience. Other times it's a Carson/Letterman type talk show, like his comeback special in Krusty Gets Kancelled, and even older variations (or "Classic Krusty") where it's a really BORING talk show discussing the 60s labor crisis or having Robert Frost as the guest. Just thought Krusty and all of his varying material would be interesting to look into. Is he primarily a kids entertainer, or adult, or somehow both..?

    I'm glad you commented on the lack of social commentary on police corruption in the modern era. Lou and Wiggum's dynamic *does* feel like it's missing that extra bit of biting commentary as a result, which is a big reason they're nowhere near as compelling as say Skinner and Chalmers. Just not a lot of depth too it.
    As for the nominations for the next Simpsons Histories picks.
    1. Blue Haired Lawyer would be the most interesting in seeing how many actual appearances he's made and if he's had much in the way of spotlights. He feels like another who'd have some secret kink like Sideshow Mel.
    2. Ralph Wiggum would be like a slightly less depressing version of Barney Gumble's Simpsons Histories. They locked in hard with Ralph's character after Season 9 and decided that's who the character is from here on out. Like Barney, Ralph feels like one who never got much after the classic era but I feel he definitely got a bit more to do than Barney.
    3. Snowball could either benefit from a Histories video or perhaps even a Mysteries video. Snowball's only major spotlight is the episode they decide to kill him off. Best check with your audience on how many Cat Lovers there are, cos it'll be a pretty depressing one for them lol.
    4. Lunch Lady Doris I'm not really sure how much there is to cover after the classic era due to the tragic death of Doris Grau. She's still around but unless I'm remembering it wrong, she's purely a background character, even more so than Richard and Lewis. It could be interesting since I honestly do not remember if she got anything after Season 7.

    I've been wanting one on Lou and Eddie for a while now, so I'm glad we got this one. As for who next, since we've covered Krusty's sidekick, Burns's sidekick, and Wiggum's sidekick, how about Grandpa's sidekick Jasper?

    Request for Agnes Skinner. We largely only see her in the context of an overbearing mother to Skinner, but we know she has her own accomplishments such as being an olympic pole vaulter and a wing walker.

    His name, the fact he was originally white with dark hair and a moustache, and the Sylvester Stallone-inspired voice makes me think Lou was originally meant to be Italian-American.
    I suppose he could still be, Italian-American on one side and African-American on the other. This video alone is full of little examples that suggest he has Italian heritage, like the fact he was picked to go undercover with the Mob.

    I am in between Blue Haired Lawyer and Sarcastic Clerk. The former because... well, he's just one of those mainstays every time a court episode is needed, but the latter is just one who, like the Squeaky Voiced Teen, can be seen damn near every time they needed a smug character at a store. Or in general.

    I'd love to see a Lunch Lady Dorris. She's definitely the weird outsider kind of character that's perfect for this series. The character you KNOW but don't really remember.
    Like I can only remember one of her scenes and even then it was more of a Willy scene being the "GREASE ME UP WOMAN" from that episode Bart brings Santa's Little Helper to school

    Lou is named after Detroit Tigers great Lou Whitaker. Al Jean is a Michigan native and Detroit sports fan; it wasl also his idea for "Woodrow" to be Gordie Howe, after Johnny Unitas turned the show down.
