I review and share my initial reaction to Masters of the Universe Revelation and Masters of the Universe Revolution, part of the He Man lore. A continuation of the story of old, minus the 90s series. Sorry, 90s series. You're not part of this apparently. The show calls back to the lore of the original series, touches on the current ongoing Netflix kid series, and has so many toys easter eggs, it's insane! But is it any good? And how does it showcase and expand upon the He Man universe? The characters and their lore?

How do you feel about He Man and the Masters of the Universe? What is your experience with the show? And did you have any He Man toys? I NEED TO KNOW!

Fab review- I still personally prefer Netflix She-Ra as a show but thought this was very good and I think people didn't initially give it a fair chance. My only major issue (aside from what you pointed out) is because it's produced by Kevin Smith there were a few lines here and there that were a bit too jokey, but overall I really liked it (and dang it, you made me like Orko! How was that possible? Usually the comic relief people are the most annoying!)

The OG He-Man was a Meh 🫀 for me , it was just ok , so I haven’t gotten into anything else to do with it , other than the Dolph Lungren Master’s Of The Universe movie ( young Courteney Cox 😍) , so I’m hesitant to watch these series, but you do make them sound interesting Amazing 🀩 Amanda …so we shall see , Staying Nerdy πŸ––πŸΎ

The tag lines from major VAs' other parts in this series were awesome. Keldor going, "I'm laughing at the superior intellect" straight out of Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan was one of the best.

Just found this channel from your Deadpool Trailer reaction. I used to have He Man and Skeletor action figures. funnily enough I don't remember watching that show that young by my Aunt's and Uncles gave me their 80's toys. For that reason I seeked a few episodes out in my teen years.

Great Review! As an old school fan, since the VERY beginning, I just couldn't understand all the negativity. If you've watched ALL the 80's episodes, you realize how repetitive the show was. What were the creators supposed to do?? The same script just with updated artwork? That would have been SO boring! I loved both for different reasons. (Huge Hordak fan. Wish they would have done more with The Horde!) But So happy to find your channel!

With Revelation was something very known to me, but i couldnt say what it was... but then i knew it.... Revelation is VERY close to Death and Return of Superman. His love got to know his secret, the world lose its Protector, the go over and beyond to get him back.....
I liked it, the 200X series is still my favorite but the netflix stuff was suprising good

I fully agree and feel both series’s should have had twice the episodes. Everything they included was amazing, it just felt rushed. Especially with revolution,so good though.
Having watched these I have no idea what people were annoyed about. This is exactly what I wanted with a modern He-Man series. I would not want a redo of the classic series. it’s great for what it was but a 30min commercial is not what I want now.

I think that Revolution is much improved from Revelation. The characters are more watchable and in keeping with their classic counterparts . The action scenes and the transformation scenes (particularly the magical girl/Super Senshi transformation) are fun to watch, and it does feel more like a MOTU series overall. I enjoyed the banter between Orko and Gwildor, and I appreciate their efforts to combine different aspects of the lore (Skeletor's multiple origin stories, Gwildor, Snake goddess Teela, etc). However, I did take issue with a number of plot holes that I think could have been fixed.
I think that the plot point of King Randor refusing to let Sorceress Teela heal hm (or at least attempt to do so) to be weak. I would have wanted to know what limits on Teela's powers prevented her from healing him, why she couldn't heal him if she didn't have any limits, or why King Randor thought it wasn't possible. To that effect, I really liked that they put limits on Teela's powers. (Having an all-powerful Mary Sue gets boring after awhile.) I would have liked to have seem more limits specified.
I think that the plot point of Adam having to give up his powers to rule is contrived because He-Man is only a magnification of Adam's own abilities, not separate person. No reason is given for Adam/He-Man being unable to do both other than King Randor thinks it can't be done (the will of the ages) .I don't understand how King Randor would know. He has never had to protect Eternia as He-Man. In fact, he (and most of the other characters) didn't even know that the power of He-Man came from his son's sword until recently, and he doesn't seem to understand what being He-Man entails. He says that being He-Man involves going off on adventures, but he seems to have forgotten how many times He-Man defended his kingdom and Castle Grayskull against Skeletor. He also seems to have forgotten about King Grayskull, who seemed to do both fine.
Also, not being able to do both contradicts our own history, in which some of the greatest rulers were also warriors (eg, Alexander the Great, Ghengis Khan, Julius Cesar, etc), who actively participated in battles after they came to power. I would have liked to have known what makes Eternia different from Earth and would prevent He-Man/Adam from ruling Eternia like our warrior rulers did with their empires. It would have caused what Adam/He-Man does to the monarchy in episode 5 to make more sense.
It is also unclear what makes He-Man/Adam think that the people of Eternia want democracy. I think for that plot point to work , they should have given a hint that the Eternian people were unhappy with the monarchy. Also, why wouldn't a constitutional monarchy work?
I found the plot point of Adam/He-Man simply allowing a stranger to assume the crown to be weak. While I do understand that He-Man can be trusting at times, I would think that Adam/He-Man would be smarter than that.
I also don't understand why Queen Marlena can't rule. She ruled with her husband before he died. I find it rather convenient that she has to abdicate the throne just because her husband passed away. (They seem to have forgotten that Queen Marlena is not a figurehead. She could be formidable in her own right. [See "The Rainbow Warrior" in the Filmation series.])
They seem to have forgotten that (per them) the facade of Castle Grayskull is supposed to be an illusion for the Hall of Wisdom. So I don't understand how Motherboard can mechanize its facade like she did, unless the mechanized facade is also an illusion. (Granted, Castle Grayskull was destroyed at one point during Revelation, but they don't clarify that the illusion is no longer valid).
I do think that the plot holes are not as glaring, which helps to improve Revolution over Revelation. I think they could have improved it further if they could have fixed or clarified some of these plot issues.
Note: I could not accept Revelation because of the massive plot holes that occurred because the writers blatantly ignored basic rules about how MOTU works. For example, the Sorceress would not blindly believe that Faker was He-Man and let him into Castle Grayskull with some villains in tow, especiallly since Castle Grayskull .is not a prison (villains were sent to the prison mines when they were caught in the Filmatiion cartoon), He-Man is supposed to be able to enter Castle Grayskull without the Sorceress by using his Power Sword ("By the power of Grayskull, I command the Jawbridge open!"), and the Sorceress has telepathic abilities that she could use to verify He-Man's identity (which should have worked even if they chose not to give He-Man the ability to enter Castle Grayskull without the Sorceress). For me, the plot holes snowballed from the opening scene and were too massive to ignore; it had nothing to do with issues that I heard some of the other fans camplain about (eg, wokeness or the "Teela issue." )

My theory on why Revolution is only 5 episodes (which I agree, 10 episodes would have been ideal) is that because of all the backlash from Revelation, that Netflix didn't want to commit so much $$$ for 10 episodes so the story was condensed to 5.

I agree this, imo, is the best animated representation of Adam. He has agency and is not just a coward also Orko by Revolution is not a disaster. 😊 If a part 3, I was hoping to see She-Ra but later heard there might be Rights issues. 😭

Revelation suffered from being targeted by "culture war" types looking for "wokeism." That's not to say that killing off the main hero and villan in ep 1 wasn't a risky move, and I'm not dismissing genuine fan criticism or reactions. But there is no denying that outrage merchants took advantage of fans reactions, and of the show being split into two parts unexpectedly, due to the pandemic.
The "anti SJW" crowd had also targeted Netflix She Ra badly for having LGTBQ characters, POC characters, and for the female characters no longer having large breasts, like in the 80s.
I kid you not. Its all out there. It was crazy! But it was clear to me that a Kevin Smith show wasn't going to be She Ra 2018.
I actually liked She Ra 2018, and thought it was an amazing show. But I am the rare fan who likes both old school MOTU and Netflix She Ra. The fanbase is mostly completely divided along the lines of 40+ He Man fans who like She Ra from the 80's, but ignore She Ra 2018 entirely or hate it, and a younger audience who were fans of Netflix She Ra and maybe MYP, 200X He Man, but not anything about filmation or the older comics.
The Eternity War, newer DC comics seems to at least be known among both factions of this very split fanbase.
But all the stuff on the internet about Revelations screaming about "she man" and "Kevin Smith lied" and Teela hooking up with Andra, as well as "replacing" He Man was culture war craziness. Most if it was done by people who could not care less and know little to nothing about MOTU.
That being said, the concept of doing a "death of Superman" kind of plotline was just the kind of thing that some people would love, others would hate.
Unfortunately, with this already being an IP that doesn't get a lot of attention, long story short, the backlash Revelations got is probably why Revolution only got 5 episodes.
I hope it gets that 3rd season to complete the trilogy that Rob David, Ted Biaselli and Kevin Smith's team had planned. And I genuinely hope that they do what nobody has done and blend elements of both She Ra 2018 and the show from the 80's, along with that Despara storyline from the Eternity War.
There are a lot of rights issues involved, but I don't think they'd tease Adora's abduction and Despara in Revolution unless they had reason to think they could use the character.
I really appreciate that you went back and saw Revelations, too. I like your take, and how you don't get what all the fuss was about. It was refreshing to get a review of Revolution that did not start off with apologizing for Revelation!

Today's reviewers have no grasp on building a story, they want instant gratification from the get go. I use to say if Star Wars Ep. IV had been released today as a streaming series, the Internet would be flooding with haters after part 1 slagging it because it's just about some guys in a desert.

I liked watching the original series, but I just couldn't get that into it. A grown man choosing to run around in a loin cloth?! Seems like the same (non)logic of the people in The Matrix universe not being able to make clothing that isn't tattered, when they obviously have the tech to make hovercraft ships and are able to tap into the Matrix?! No one else is dressed like that so why is he? I know it's a big part of other people's childhood and that's just fine and cool, but he wasn't something I could get into.

I have to say that I agree with you on the ratings. I thoroughly enjoyed the two season or series, whatever they are considered. I was a little bummed that they killed He-Man in the first episode, but I read an entire mini-series of He-Man comics where he was Adam almost the entire run with no memory of being a prince or He-Man. So, comparably, Revelation wasn't so bad.

For me the show was really fun - it managed to capture the old school feeling, while not seeming dated at the same time and trying something new as well :)
