My immediate reaction and spoiler free thoughts on Sony Picture's Madame Web, made in association with Marvel Entertainment and very loosely inspired by stories and characters from Marvel Comics. Starring Dakota Johnson as Cassie Webb aka Madame Web, Adam Scott as paramedic (and uncle) Ben Parker, Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon, Emma Roberts as Mary Parker (Peter Parker aka Spider-Man's mom), Tahar Rahim as villain Ezekiel Sims, and Celeste O' Connor Mattie Franklin, and Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter. It's honestly awful. I will be posting a follow up review where we talk spoilers but for now enjoy this reaction / review of Madame Web with no spoilers. Please, do not watch this movie.

How do you feel about the Sony live action Spiderverse? Did you own a cellphone in 2003? And if so, were you rich at that time?
I went back to look up cellphone models that I owned and I'm pretty sure I owned both the Krzr flip-phone and prior to that the Razr flip-phone (initially 2004 release). But before that I'm pretty sure my first ever cell phone I owned was a slide up (maybe a Nokia???). I can't remember the name of the model.

It makes the 1977 television, live-action Spider Man look good. I love it when the video is segmented and the longest segment is the "what went wrong" section! 🙃
Cell phones were definitely "a thing" for normal people in (and before) 2003. I had one in 2001 and even though it wasn't super-common at that time, it was not that big of a deal. By 2003 it was no big deal at all.
Even Dakota Johnson said she hasn’t seen the movie yet. Supreme plausible deniability. 😅

Cell phones were quite common in 2003. Certainly common enough that the "you're rich" feeling wasn't really there. I worked for a cell phone company in the 90's and they were common even then but I did get some "you're rich" comments occasionally back then. Definitely didn't by 2003.
At this point sony doesn't care about making good movies as long they still have the Spider-man movie rights. It also seems sony rather lose money than lose the rights to Spider-man.
6:58 I had a cellphone in 1998, and I got it because it cost about the same as a landline, so long as I wasn't constantly talking on it. I think the only reason this film is based in 2003 is so they can have future films be in current times.
Cell phones in 2003 were a lot cheaper, even poor me had one....
Sony needs to make a Spider-Man related film every few years to keep the film rights so they don't care if its any good. Plus IMO they use characters they have the rights to so that Marvel Studios can't use them in the MCU as part of the deal that allows them to use Spider-Man.
Great review Amanda on this horrible madame web movie and I agree this was bad and completely garbage from the very beginning and completely proves my point that Sony needs to stop doing Spider-Man spinoff movies that nobody cares about myself included.

Madame Web was handled fairly well in the cartoon. There is a good story there. It seems like they simply decided to do something else and use the name.
That was a superhero movie? I thought it was four women running away from a knock-off Spiderman....

This film was INCREDIBLE. This might be one of my favorite comedies.
I didn't have a cellphone in 2003 i was 9 i didn't get my first cellphone until i was 13 in 2007 , also the fact that 2003 is now considered a period piece 😂😭

Thank you Amanda for the info i knew that Madame Web was going to suck from the start the reason it sucked because it wasn't from the MCU and i still dont understand what was the point of making this horrible movie? Theres a Nic Cage movie where he sees the future and its really cool how he utilises this ability.
Its a pity this film had nothing like that.

Why not make a straightforward movie about a paramedic struggling with her mental health? It's set in NYC less than two years after 9/11, and she's around chaos and suffering every day, with no family or friends to turn to for help.
Sony is always trying to one up marvel, Sony they want to rush content out but don't research the characters Marvel needs full control of these characters by the time marvel gets to some of the characters that Sony is trying to push it will be too late

To be clear, Sony rushed this movie because they just wanted a movie to keep the rights of Spider-Man. I don’t think they really cared. If it made any money they won’t let go of Spider-Man.
This movie makes catwoman and batman forever and batman and robin look good it makes morbius looks good
I had hopes, not high ones, for Madame Web but that seems to be my mistake... lol

Nothing wrong with having high hopes for a property you are a fan of. It's disappointing that they weren't able to make something better as many of the characters they used here are interesting. I'm especially a fan of Anya Corazon in the comics. Though I will say the actress that played her, Isabela Merced, at least did a decent job and even managed to shine in a few select moments. She was my favourite of the Spider-Girls we got here. She wasn't given anything interesting to work with from this terrible script but she still managed to move me at certain points. So that's something at least.

I absolutely loved this movie! Just saw it last night. Of course we went into it knowing it would be bad hahahahaha. So bad it's NOT good.
If it's not the Miles Morales animated spider verse films I have no interest in these spider verse films especially if spider man whether it's Peter, Miles or Gwen are in it 😂😂😂😂. Give me a sinister six film James Gunn suicide squad style as one collective film and be done with it. Enough of the 💩 making a villain verse of spider characters. On the flip side can't wait to see your reaction to X-Men 97 Amanda ❤❤❤❤.

Now I'm dreading watching this movie. But I probably wouldn't go too far about this movie being worse than Catwoman, that movie will forever hold the title of worst superhero movie of all time. (But we'll see)

They didn't care about spoiling the movie or characters, so why should you? It felt like the spiritual successor of the supergirl movie from the 80s. It was completely unnecessary, but I'm wondering how bad the kraven movie is going to be due to how much this sucked.
Okay, so worse than Spider-Man 3 and Catwoman. That's saying a lot. However, is it worse than the only superhero movie I've ever not been able to finish, the third Fantastic Four. If so, I won't watch it. Great job buddy. ❤❤
I'm assuming you are referring to the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot film (not the abandoned FF sequel to Rise of the Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four 3). If so, then I'd say yes, it is worse.

i disagree, i thought the movie was very fun bad. like morbius was the kinda bad that made me angry, madame web was the kind that made me giggle
Wow. Interesting. I actually enjoyed part of Mobius and didn't think it was as bad as everyone said. This for me was so bad that it hurt my soul. I was exhausted after watching it. And there was one point in the film where I actually considered walking out. But I'm glad you found it at least funny bad. I wish I had that experience with it.
