What a fabulous video! I don't usually comment, but you have absolutely inspired me. In early May last year, I travelled from Australia to visit Gerberoy. I could not stop taking photos- a glorious place & the highlight of my French trip. So now, thanks to you, I have so much to think about and may be able to link my memory with my slow stitching. I can't wait to see how you work on the project!

That looks like it’ll be a fascinating project! I’ve always found that creating art/imagery is one of those things you’d have to throw yourself into. If you don’t give yourself time to worry over every brushstroke, it seems to work so much better! 😂 From what we’ve seen, your art skills are better than you think.
I’m guessing you could use different thread colours for tiny highlit areas?
I love the different art works that you’ve chosen. They’re so expressive, and I can see how a micro-mosaic patchwork could be amazing. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Go with your strengths is a wonderful idea. My understanding of these projects listening to Rachel is that she encourages you to do your own thing and don’t feel you have to copy her. Can’t wait to see your results!

I have done several of Emily’s patterns I have been looking at the cost of the canvas. I am going to go ahead and start the project on a tea dyed muslin base and quilt batting. Then, I will watch goodwill and thrift stores for a used one and be paint over it with gesso. For it to be a true slow stitch process is going to be a lot of work. But Emily uses the derwent intense for shading. Not sure I will do that. They are very expensive but worth it. But I will wait, see how large my project ends up, because I cannot see myself mounting it onto the canvas until it’s finished anyway. But I am considering a sort of Italian villa patio scene with table scape. And instead of machine sewing my fabric collage I will hand sew it , and of course highlight and do thread painting, embroidery, etc.

Thank you Christine for your video and sharing this amazing project with us. I love the painting ,so my taste and it will be really interesting to see how you move through the different elements of the work. You will do it justice and you can hear in your voice how invested you are in it, my old art teacher always said you need to approach a work with enthusiasm and joy and if they are not there do not do it as it will never succeed.(hence I only watercolour landscapes) useless at people and animals 😂 hugs to his Lordship I hope he is enjoying his private pool.

Love the idea of constructing an image with scraps reminds me of Susanna's calendar that Corrine constructed for fruit bowl month great look. Not arty farty minded so find it daunting to start. But once seeing this book gives me ideas that may help. Still have UFOs to complete so if started wont be large.

I also wondered about the scale of the piece. My canvas is 20" x 16". I know they said still life or tablescape. But mine is going to hang in my craft room and so my idea is to stitch a representation of my craft desk. So the things that will be on my desk or table will be a cup with pens in it, my paper cutter, my drawers with all my washy tape in them, and then a journal sitting on the table. I don't have the fifth thing thought out of what I want on the table but that is my idea for mine. I hope it works out. I also might stitch individual elements and then add them to the final background fabric afterwards. Great idea my friend.

Great ideas, I have also been watching Emily’s videos for the last few weeks and have just finished sorting my fabrics into colours and cutting small swatches for collage. I have just started looking for a little iron in Aus. Would you mind telling us where you got your from. Love Maria. 🙏🏼

@@mariacofinasartdesign7753 hi Maria - thanks so much for your lovely comment and happy that you will be delving into Emily’s approach too. The mini iron I got was from an eBay seller called Victoriasewingsupply and the iron was listed as Pen Type Mini Iron with Stand - For detail ironing - seeing, crafting tool. I haven’t had the chance to experiment with it yet so perhaps I will do a video sharing it and that way it may help you decide if it is worth getting. Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡

OK, here's the opinion of a junk journal maker (ME!) which is that I hate it when journal makers say they are making a collage out of paper bits, offcuts, ugly paper they hate, etc. They then proceed to glue these pieces willy-nilly all over the place and call it a collage. Exsqueeeeze me, but that's Frankenpaper - NOT a collage. The genius of a collage is that something recognizable is made from carefully curated bits of paper (or fabric, in this case) put together with an artist's eye. It takes thought, creativity, and talent, all of which you and other true collage artists have in abundance. My opinion only, no haters, you all do you, but by all the gods, don't call a childish safety-scissored bunch of paper bits a COLLAGE. (I highly recommend Art with Em on YT to make my point.)
