- Spyship was a mini-series which aired in 1983, and was based on the Brian Haynes and Tom Keene novel.
Spyship follows the events of the disappearance of the fishing trawler Caistor and the following aftermath when Martin Taylor, a journalist and his friend, Suzy begin to dig, and they investigate the possibility of the Caistor being captured and sunk by the Soviet Union.
Based on one of the theories surrounding the disappearance of the Hull trawler FV Gaul in 1974.
Amanda Pickard - Character Mrs Metcalfe wife of sole survivor of Trawling disaster.
Me and my dad are in this clip. Filmed in the Minerva pub hull.
Great performances all round. Especially, Lesley Nightingale and Peter Eyre. a Chilling Drama in more ways than one.
Please, anybody knows what is the real name for fishing vessel shown in the beginning of this clip? Thank you so much. Superb thriller.
I have this in WAV format. I first heard it in the 80's when my parents bought me a K-tel compilation cassette called 'Hooked on themes' then about 15 years ago it became available on CD as I recall so I snapped it up. Oddly enough, I see Amazon is selling a 'Hooked on themes' but it only has 16 tracks and 'Spy Ship' isn't amongst them so I don't know what happened.
p.s. The 'Hooked on' version is even better than the series title version - same vocalist I think but slower and more haunting and it has another three verses with a sublime ending chorus.
p.p.s If you really want a copy, you could contact June directly and see if she could provide any assistance. I see her website is: www.junetabor.co.uk
p.p.p.s If you like this sort of mournful folk music, I highly recommend the hidden gem 'The passing of the elves' from The Lord of the Rings album.
Yes it is June Tabor and I would like to have this song but it is not available :(
This June Tabor song is available on a BBC released single from 1983
was entranced by the song which starts this - anybody know what it is/who sings it?
Steve
