- Roger Whittaker (1936-2023) was a singer-songwriter and musician, who was born in Nairobi. His music was a mix of country & folk music and traditionals. He was known for his baritone singing voice and whistling ability.
Spotlight was a music show for the youth, which was aired between 1968 and 1978 by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). It was the counterpart to the shows "Beat Club" or "Musikladen" in Germany.
The man could sing, wrote beautiful songs and then there's this!!! RIP Roger Whittaker
He came to the Batley verity club and did a week there, nice chap, he would sit near the audience and watch the show, then go on stage for his hour,
One of the bes whistlers ever! Brilliant! Rest in peace, Roger.

Rest easy Roger. What a talented singer, songwriter, showman, guitarist, and MASTERCLASS whistler. I’m sure he’ll make a guest appearance as a soloist in God’s orchestra.
Superbe ❤ grand plaisir.❤❤1lorraine
Holy cow. I heard this as a kid, but I thought he was doing it on a metal whitle, like a tin whistle. I had no idea he was just whistling with his mouth. Mind blown here !!!!!! OMG! That's incredible.
Blown away that’s something else !
His whistling was phenomenal! RIP Roger....
Roger is to whistling like Rembrandt is to art.
It's 2020. This man still rocks!
Yes he does!!!
We got to see him perform at the Santa Rosa Luther Burbank center in 2000. It was awesome!
May 2 2022 and still rocks.
FACT!!!
2023 and he still rocks
2023 yes he does
RIP Roger. You made this world a happier place.
Absolute. Brought on this. A Saint in waiting
You're right.Whittaker had a beautiful deep voice,amazinh whistler.He was a manly man.
My daddy used to be able to whistle like this until Parkinson's took away his talent. I'm so grateful to be able to still kind of hear it!❤️
Give him some cannabis that should work.
My respect for you and your father...
The same with my Papa. I loved to listen and tried it myself to whistle like him... I'm 56 and still love to listen to the songs of Mr. R. W.. My Papa died 2021 and especially this song reminds me of him... Takes me back when I was a child. 🙏
Now I'm scared. I inherited some parkinson's.... I never thought it might remove my ability to whistle. I whistle better than I speak.
@@psycoticbastard Try a bit of Fentanyl yourself why don't you. Don't be shy. But don't use a tablespoon just a good pinch will see you whistling for a while.
Rest in peace Mr Whittaker. I will surely listen to your music for as long as I live.
Amazing, new form of music to me today

One of the last great musical whistlers. Roger's music will remain timeless. RIP sir!
One of my dad's favourites back in the 70s. But have to admit, the guy could whistle!
One of my Dad's favourites too. We heard this song many, many times, when I was young
He was fantastic. May he rest in peace
Fantastic
My dad adored this man.. Durham Town... Beautiful
My mom loved him. One of my early childhood memories was Roger singing and whistling. I am 63 as I write this. 😊🇨🇦
Same. That s one of two songs my dad ever sings himself. He really identifies with it, as a swede that barely speaks English 😂

My mom had some of his albums and played them on our old record player...I absolutely loved it. His music is timeless! And I learned to whistle SO well!! But now I can't whistle anymore...it's so weird and sad and I miss it. 😭
Roger Whittaker is the whistle king! So happy to find this on you tube. I'm sitting here with my mother and I was playing her some of these songs. I was hoping it would help her remember those times. She's in the latter stages of dementia but she always loved music so much and had a lovely voice. I miss hearing her sing in the kitchen. Guess I'm missing lots of things these days. 🥺😬
Happy 2023 to everyone! 🎇
Love and blessings! ❤️
Very nice 👌
I adored dancing to this. Rest in Peace, Roger.
I also do Kristine, how are you doing?
A great singer past away, I salute
He was one of my favorites even from childhood in the 70s. One of the all-time best.
Every time he was in our area, we bought tickets. Beautiful voice and I love to hear him whistle! Such a beautiful instrument he has!
I had a guest from Wales and when I put Roger’s Christmas album on, he couldn’t believe we knew of his country’s great talent. He was also surprised that we went to many of his concerts! Love that mellow voice of his!

Wonderful! It never ceases to amaze me what a variety of beautiful sounds can produced by human vocal cords and the respiratory apparatus!

How did he do that? Magnificent RIP Roger x
Short answer: normal whistling but with phenomenal and FAST control of the tongue position.
2022 this gentle man of music "blows" you away with a talent never to be matched.
You must have never heard Adrian Williams Whistling
He makes it seem like a breeze!

He is a great whistler but since he doesn’t do this for a living I’m pretty sure there are specialists who are better.
I mean, Elton John is brilliant on the piano but he is no Horowitz and no Rubinstein.
VOUS N IMAGINER PAS LE TRAVAIL POUR UTILISER SA LUETTE DE CETTE FAÇON, CET HOMME ETAIT INCROYABLE!!
Rip, Roger
I'm 66 and go round whistling all the time and it's all down to watching Roger when I was growing up
R.I.P.
Friede sei Deiner Seele, Roger .... ✝
Amazing. My dad loved this guy
The Greatest Whistler I Have Ever Heard (1968)
Rest in Peace Roger
os melros, cotovias e outros pássaros aqui do meu quintal ficariam cheios de inveja com o assobio deste gaijo.
A unique tallent, he allways seemed out of place but had a natural charm and wonderful voice spoken and sung musician. A natural entertainer. God bless him.x
I relisten time to time over the years and I enjoyed always :)
RIP Roger 🙏🙏🙏
My best friend introduced me to Roger Whittaker and this particular piece. The melody & the whistling have always been stuck in my mind, so that i sometimes whistle my humble version of this. Rest in peace Roger. You may be out of sight now, bet never out of our mind. ❤
Such a talant3d man with the most fantastic voice ❤
R.I.P 🙏
I don't remember if it was my mom or me that discovered Roger Whittaker, but we both loved listening to him when I was in high school. He barely moves his lips and he creates all that music. Amazing.
My mother loved him but she mostly listened to his later German schlager stuff and not his good original material.
My father and grandfather could whistle similar to this. My father took my grandmother to one of Rogers concerts, where he did a meet and greet after the concert. My grandmother waited til last and talked to Roger about my grandfathers whistling like him. He was so gracious and kind to her, making it the best memory she had after my grandfather had passed. Roger reminded her of him. It was a wonderful evening!!❤❤
