Well Twilight said Starswirl banished them to a world where he thought their magic wouldn't work, which suggests he already knew what was on the other side, so the mirror might have already existed before the sirens were banished and he deliberately picked that world to send them to, but it's not like he'd be able to get them to go through the mirror. For a start they're quite a bit bigger than ponies and wouldn't even fit through. Alternatively the mirror could have been made to keep an eye on that dimension just in case he was horribly wrong and some unforeseen circumstances might cause the sirens to regain all the power they lost when they were sent there, which would be more than a little bit ironic.
I would HIGHLY recommend watching Analyst Bronies react to this finale RarityDash :D Yeah there are some different opinions on Starlight and such, but it's still very entertaining and I am sure you will enjoy it!

Daniel Smi first of all, the season 5 finale. I really liked her as a villain, then the s5 finale happened. The problem being, her reformation was absolutely awful and rushed. Her backstory was weak and she had bad motives. She said "sorry" for almost destroying the world and they throw her a parade and immediately accept her and take her in? Wtf was that? And you might say that was way back and it shouldn't matter anymore, but the bigger problem: They started shoving her down our throats immediately and making her a main character and making her a part of the main cast, and as the focus. And what bugs me the most: She's OP af. She's stronger than Twilight, wtaf they don't even need Twilight on the show anymore with her around. She's just not a character I can tolerate for the most part and with her in most episodes of the show since season 6 I gradually stopped watching with the exception of some episodes. It might sound petty and dumb and I acknowledge that, but I can't help it.

I could make the argument that the season 7 finale *doesn't* Equestria Girls. Because in the EQG lore (and the Fiendship is Magic comics), the sirens were sent to the human world by Starswirl alone. This showed a team of six ponies dealing with the sirens (seven if you include Stygian).

According to Hasbro Comics that contradict events in the show aren't canon. I can tell you that the "Legends of magic" comics were confirmed to be canon though.

Regarding the Pillars though i have something to say regarding that but i can't say it because it would be a spoiler for the recently released comic.
