While we have had a lot of Unicorn antagonists, only Tempest attacked Canterlot.
I think it might have to do with the fact that the Main Six have other responsibilities. Rainbow's a wonderbolt, Rairty has three shops to run, Fluttershy takes care of animals, AJ running the apple farm, Pinkie running Sugar cube Corner and party planning, and Twilight being a princess. So with everything else they have going on, how will they have time to teach and run a school, especially if they get called for a Friendship mission.
