Yeah man, that's a beautiful tool, can't say it too many times. I have it's bigger brother, the Scandinavian and it's the most beautiful axe I own. So yeah, I get it, if no one else gets it, I get it. Rock on, wilderness man.
Just bought one and I freakin love it shaved the hair right off my arm! You can tell the crafters put a lot of time and effort into these and for that I thank you Gransfors Bruk. If you don't own one buy one now you'll be glad you did.
brother. i have only got a sog tac hawk and have been thinking of getting a pack axe for 2 years now, so many out there its hard to choose. i trust you and your judgement tac, i think ill get one of these. thanks for being you bro sweet looking axe
I've had my small forest axe for a couple years now and actually sharpen it on a wet stone. It's still shaving sharp and worth every penny. The best chopper bar none. I just bought their splitting maul as well and have a lot of white oak to split. I'm sure it will perform above and beyond expectations.
This was a really special episode, as my grandfather used to work a lot in the forest. And their axes was always a pride to them, they would always have a personal axe this size called a Kvistyxa (Or just kvistyx in my accent), wich basically was a universal tool. And also a bigger axe for the acutal treecutting, but that was usually an axe that the whole "team" would buy together. And you can tell that it's a proper kvistyx by the way the head is made to be thinning much closer to the shaft than a cutting or chopping axe. That way ,when combined with high quality steel, they could make precision cuts and the axe itself would stay sharper for longer periods of time. My grandfather bought an axe that is the same model as this (but different brand) about 70 years ago, and my father still uses it today, albeit with a newer handle. Anyways, thanks for a great review!
I have an old garden shed axe which I use, I thought it was pretty good. But after watching this axe in action I think its time to hang it up and get myself one of these beauties. Great video thanks for sharing. 10/10
When you first said "holy crap!" It reminded me of that awesome feeling you get when a new tool performs to and even above expectations... joy, excitement, gratification, and even euphoria... We humans are a weird bunch.. nice vid man!
I bought mine last summer and it is a piece of art. I absolutely love it! ps Your videos are entertaining - humor, enthusiasm, self-deprecation and just enough colorful language without being vulgar. Well done.
Holy crap man. Thanks for reviewing that sweet ass axe buddy but now I've got to have one. Lucked out and found an outdoor company about 3 hours away that will have this line a available April 18. They ship too so I'm stoked to get my hands on one now. Thanks so much for the heads up bra. Wouldn't have known had it not been for you. And even showed me how to take care of it too. Your the best.
Thanks brother TAC now I gotta get one lol I collect and restore old axes and have been thinking about getting this bad boy this review pushed me over the edge great review !
Really is a sick ass axe! Funny thing is gransfors says it's a felling axe, but it does split like a champ! I'd like to try the small splitting axe, it probably goes through wood like buttah.
Hell yeah brother, my buddy showed his he got yesterday today before we left work this morning, brought it with him in his jeep, hadn't tested it yet,so now that I've seen it in action, holy shit, now I want one,an for the price, shit yeah I agree, I'd pay that for a awesome little forest axe any day of the week,he's gonna get a kick out watching your video an review of this,so definitely a good purchase an all around great tool.
I literally had no use for this but after watching all these sweet ass vids i picked one up from Jax. They are phenomenal. Like pieces of art. I am now finding every excuse in the world to go out and use it
I got mine from Jax 3 yrs ago. I still haven't use it. lol I play with it and admire its beauty. I want to use it so bad but there's no place I could go chop down a tree without getting sue or fine.
One more fact about the axe that you didn't mentioned as far as I recall (however, it might depend on the country), it fits in a 50 cm bag, wich is a pretty standrad size of bag. Not big, not small, just standard, and it fits it perfectly. ^^ That was actually one of the main reasons I bough it in the first place.
Beautiful axe bro! I have the same one and haven't encountered a situation this axe couldn't handle! Tnx for sharing! Your axe head has a very nice and even forge! They rarely come like that :-)
TAC, I know you not receiving Axe or Knife from you tube land, but just bought a Hultafors Hunting Axe Classic. It would have been nice to put Gransfors Bruk small forest Axe against my Hultafors. For now we'll never know which is the best. TAC, you rock and thanks for sharing.
I watched this video with my brother n law and I've wanted one for a long time. but as soon as we wathed your video I said screw it I'm getting one so I immediately ordered one. I had to spend $200.00 on it and it was totally worth it. I love it. I got the Ray Mears edition which I don't know the difference but I freakin love it. AWESOME!
totally agree with you, this axe is insane in the quality / sharpness department. The axe book that comes with it is nifty, too. People complain about the high price tag on a gransfors. After seeing how the axes are hand forged, and how well it performs, it seems like the 120 dollar price is totally justifiable.... heck even a bargain. thanks for the review.
I also had a Iltis Oxhead hang on a 19 White Hickory handle it's a German made axe with a real thin head and a 5" face it too splits great at 2 3/4lbs it's saves energy like our S.F.A. you don't have to use alot of strenght to get the job done it's ultra sharp too.
$120 for something that will last a life time and then some. I always thought that these where more expensive than that. Seems a good price expecially since the way it performs. Great vid Tac.
Man that GB SFA looks perfectly balanced, athesically pleasing, slices like a razor and chops like a ninja. Could this be the ultimate survival tool. Heck leave the survival knife at home. I Just ordered me one cant wait to take it out bush! Thanks for the review Tactical
Ha ha, nice to see that you finaly got the right tool. Now you can retire all your other axes. I use mine since abaout 10 years and love it because of its quality, edgeretention and the fact that the head ist still tight. Perfect sice to take it out for trips. AS = Anders Strömstedt is the smith at Gränsfors Bruk who is mainly forging the heads for the smal forest axes. Have a nice time with yours and always think twice where the axe is heading when you miss because you dont want to be "bitten" by her ;o)
Bought one maybe six months ago or so. Really love it, and as you said, SCARY sharp. Got mine for around 80$ though, so it was a lot cheaper than yours. But I live in Sweden so. ^^
Great video. Just ordered myself a GB hand hatchet. When you treated your axe with boiled linseed oil, did you sand it first? What else do you recommend to protect my GB. Thank you in advanced.
My daughter takes off in the forest and chops down dead trees with mine. We were camping this one time and it had gotten dark and windy. Well everyone is standing around the fire trying to keep an eye out for bigfoot without anyone else knowing that they are keeping an eye out for bigfoot, all the while visiting. All of a sudden this huge tree comes crashing down. We all freak out, except Hannah. She's laughing her but off. A half cut tree she worked on earlier, about 100 yards out, in the forest fell down.
I've been thinking about getting a gransfors hatchet for a while, but the price has always put me off a bit, but the praise these things get is just overwhelming, I simply have to get one, they just look so awsome and classy too.
Yup you can imagine how my Iltis Oxhead that I had a 19" White Hickory Handle to make my House Axe for easier transport. It too has a very thin edge, But it's a 5" cutting edge. The shear weight plows through wood like a hot knife through budda. Yeah, alot laughed telling me I made a mistake to put a short handle on a felling axe head, I don't care I wanted a shorty. and a shorty it is, But yet it's very function especially in camp building shelters and processing alot of firewood. It glides though the wood, Weight is important to a good choppee.
I've got the SFA and two Wetterlings the foresters fine axe and the 19inch outdoor /Bushcraft axe. I've just ordered a proper handmade axe from Liam Hoffman his axes make these look like ornaments!
+Randal Flagg You are wrong. Gransfors knows how to make an excellent traditional axe that exceeds the quality of any other manufacturer. They have the experience that no other manufacturer has. I have an axe like the one reviewed in this video. Check the RUclips for Gransfors axe destruction test. Their heat treatment is still secret.
Ironic, I bought mine about a month ago, haven't used it yet and it TOO was made by A.S. I had 5 to choose from and this was the most awesome. (their all awesome of course). Looking forward to using it. Good review.
Nice! I have one of these and it's fucking awesome! Also a great budget hatchet is the Husqvarna 13" handle 15" overall. For the $20 - $30 you pay its a great deal! The edge ain't too good out of the box though.
MrJ9k good call. I have a Scandinavian forest axe and I keep it sharp. I'm working on an old white oak that's been frozen since December. Swedish steel or not, that shot is tough. These kinds of guys always buy an axe, cut some soft wood for 3 minutes and tell us all how amazing the axe performs.
Hi Steve from the uk here just wondering if you've got your hands on a boker carivore t hawk I've been watching your vids think they're great but these two are very close I need a second opinion thanks in advance
Stanley Sprow Never heard anyone have that problem actually, pretty sure it would be hard unless you have used the axe in the wrong way, hit the shaft when cutting etc. I live in Sweden, we can have pretty hard winters here, especially in the north, and I know several people who have used this axe for years.
I got one for 125 it is going to get here in 2 days. I got a crappy pine in my yard with that axes name all over it. I already got the splitting maul and the wedge. I have a splitting axe I picked up the head for a half day cleaning my buddies garage after he moved in. I cleaned it up and hung it. I do most of my chopping with that bugger and use the maul for the big stuff. I use the wedge for the gnarly stuff and new I will have the small axe for the limping and small stuff. I usually use my Stihl for limbing but that kills my back limbing and bucking. I never hit my wedge with my maul. I got a sledge for my wedge but like you said, it is pretty and I don't want to bust it up, but I would gladly drop another 80 bucks on another wedge than pay 20 bucks for the cheap prices of shit you,get at the box stores.
I love how excited this dude gets...I mean, it's a sweet axe, but his enthusiasm makes it fun.
watching in on 2x speed I couldn't agree more! Just received my Granfors Bruk 25" axe this weekend yeehah
Yeah man, that's a beautiful tool, can't say it too many times. I have it's bigger brother, the Scandinavian and it's the most beautiful axe I own.
So yeah, I get it, if no one else gets it, I get it.
Rock on, wilderness man.
I got one of those to, I cant wait to test it!!
***** sweet
That's probably one of the best outdoor tools ever made.
Just bought one and I freakin love it shaved the hair right off my arm! You can tell the crafters put a lot of time and effort into these and for that I thank you Gransfors Bruk. If you don't own one buy one now you'll be glad you did.

i have only got a sog tac hawk and have been thinking of getting a pack axe for 2 years now, so many out there its hard to choose.
i trust you and your judgement tac, i think ill get one of these.

you would luv it brother Funky!
i got one tac
man its like a heavy razor blade on a stick
wow its a sweet swing and bites like a vamp whore lol
good call tac
cheers buddy
It may not be tactical, but you feel confident swinging it. You know it'll make short work of a door or person better than the SOG will
I've had my small forest axe for a couple years now and actually sharpen it on a wet stone. It's still shaving sharp and worth every penny. The best chopper bar none. I just bought their splitting maul as well and have a lot of white oak to split. I'm sure it will perform above and beyond expectations.
Hello from Norway,Tac!! I have had mine for over 20 years now. And it`s still inn perfect condition.I highly recomend it too!!
Morten Trolle great to hear
This was a really special episode, as my grandfather used to work a lot in the forest. And their axes was always a pride to them, they would always have a personal axe this size called a Kvistyxa (Or just kvistyx in my accent), wich basically was a universal tool. Great review and cracked me up. Good to see someone feeling great about a new tool and sharing it
I agree.....I love my Gransfors Burks small forest axe ......best axe I ever owned ......The hype is true no doubt ...
A work of art and perfect combination of American hickory and Swedish steel.
When you first said "holy crap!" It reminded me of that awesome feeling you get when a new tool performs to and even above expectations... joy, excitement, gratification, and even euphoria... We humans are a weird bunch.. nice vid man!
I've had this axe in my eBay watch list for four years. Finally took the plunge, cheers for the push.
PS, paid £85, which is about $175.
Got mine from the official Canadian retailer in Ontario for USD $112 ($149 CAD) a week ago. Been sleeping with it ever since lol.
lol I know what you mean. Mine is right next to me by my bed. :)
Rogue-Spear where is this? what site?
Ryan Caiazza
Lee Valley. Prices are in Canadian dollars.
+Rogue-Spear so I can't buy it in US dollars? And pay the 112? Even 150 us is good
Ryan Caiazza
Here you go buddy. US website, in US dollars: www.leevalley.com/US/garden/page.aspx?p=20129&cat=2,44728,45794,20129

Man, you are crazy! I have really enjoyed all your videos that I have seen so far. Funny, and real review! Thanks for the laughs!
Have the same one. I would also say it's the best axe I've ever owned. Highly recommended.
After watching your video i ordered a Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe. Absolutely Delighted..!! Cannot wait until it comes.
I bought mine last summer and it is a piece of art. I absolutely love it!
ps Your videos are entertaining - humor, enthusiasm, self-deprecation and just enough colorful language without being vulgar. Well done.
Steve Byrne thanks man
dude youre easily one of the most entertaining reviewers on youtube, crack me up with good info too. awesome!
This puppy is going to the top of my Christmas list 🖒
its quite calming seeing someone chop into the wood!

You're right, these things are razorsharp...

agreed my friend!
Great enthusiasm, man. You've got some good energy. Very good review. You really showed the axe's potential.
I would like to see some axe self defense Abraham Lincoln twirling the axe around before striking. Another cool vid great job Tac!
lol I better use somthin a little duller :)
it really is a beautiful axe.

Great axe!
fook ya bro!
You can shave with these puppies Tac. The Swedes know how to forge an axe, lifetimes of fun, and they are all good
they are good at what they do & Swedish girls are hot!
Ha ha, nice to see that you finaly got the right tool. Now you can retire all your other axes. I use mine since abaout 10 years and love it because of its quality, edgeretention and the fact that the head ist still tight. Perfect sice to take it out for trips.

Bought one maybe six months ago or so. Really love it, and as you said, SCARY sharp. Got mine for around 80$ though, so it was a lot cheaper than yours. But I live in Sweden so. ^^
Mr Spades wow you scored!
Lol...i get ecstatic over my GB's, too!!! Awesome review!!! Thanks!
Great video. Just ordered myself a GB hand hatchet. When you treated your axe with boiled linseed oil, did you sand it first? What else do you recommend to protect my GB. Thank you in advanced.
Nobody makes knives and axes quite like the Scandinavians, am I right?
Damn right. Dates back to viking times.
Chief Shitlord no. The Germans.
Sure don't Capt'n.,,.
thejasonbischoff what german axes and knives do you prefer over the scandinavian?
Anything made in Solingen
"Man I love you"! Lol!! That was funny!
Unbelievable ax
no really I do! :)
Lol nice one Tactical 😄 I keep mine for special occasions because like you I love it 👍. Atb Richie.

Best intro to a video series..hands down
dame thats a sharp axe i think you have a solid swing as well dude
My daughter takes off in the forest and chops down dead trees with mine. We were camping this one time and it had gotten dark and windy. Well everyone is standing around the fire trying to keep an eye out for bigfoot without anyone else knowing that they are keeping an eye out for bigfoot, all the while visiting. All of a sudden this huge tree comes crashing down. We all freak out, except Hannah. She's laughing her but off. A half cut tree she worked on earlier, about 100 yards out, in the forest fell down.
I've been thinking about getting a gransfors hatchet for a while, but the price has always put me off a bit, but the praise these things get is just overwhelming, I simply have to get one, they just look so awsome and classy too.
it could last you a life time
Yup you can imagine how my Iltis Oxhead that I had a 19" White Hickory Handle to make my House Axe for easier transport.
+ARALSHERRI Watch Liam Hoffman's video's scooter, I own a GB Scandinavian forest axe so your not telling me anything new!!
Ditto 100%
Bought two, one for son.
Awesome simply awesome.
Get u one !
They have been manufacturing axes since 1902... Awesome choice bro!

"it is actually not that cold out about 25*" tac you crack me up
it's pine. Hit some hard wood for us.
Sensibility_offender this

man tac i love your videos man keep doing them this one made me buy the gransfors for 120 bucks Thanks!
Sweet review! love this axe!
love it man! I have the large carving axe and the Swedish carving axe and they are the greatest! Great review!
Hi Steve from the uk here just wondering if you've got your hands on a boker carivore t hawk I've been watching your vids think they're great but these two are very close I need a second opinion thanks in advance
What's the better splitter this or the wetterlings backcountry? do they weigh about the same..?
This is going on my Christmas list 🖒
Hey dad to go I like those two but they are expensive. I heard that they are prone to breaking wind cold. good review thank you
it was pretty cold that day & so far so good

This is one of the tools that you need to make for making a english longbow/warbow. You need it for splitting wood for a piece for a bow
Damn the day i thought u would say 10/10 i thought pigs would fly brother! Haha nice vid tac
